SVETLANA CHMAKOVA’S EISNER-NOMINATED DRAMACON TO BE RELEASED AS NEW COLLECTOR’S EDITION
“Awkward” Author’s Debut YA Manga Poised to Delight a New Generation

Los Angeles, CA —Global manga publisher and media brand TOKYOPOP® is celebrating the 15th anniversary of Eisner Award nominee Svetlana Chmakova’s debut title with a collector’s edition release of Dramacon.  This special edition will feature over 600 pages of beautiful artwork, a brand-new cover design, and a never-before published glimpse into Svetlana’s creative process.

Originally published as a manga trilogy beginning in 2005, the drama/comedy Dramacon follows a group of friends through three years at a local anime convention. With classic coming-of-age teenage themes in mind, Dramacon is well-positioned for fans of Svetlana’s work who are looking for something more in the line of young adult (YA) stories.

“Dramacon is one of TOKYOPOP’s most beloved manga series,” said Kae Winters, Marketing Associate at TOKYOPOP. “Svetlana is an incredibly talented storyteller and artist and we’re thrilled to be able to introduce a whole new generation of readers to her acclaimed debut work.”

SYNOPSIS:

Christie, an amateur writer and full-time fan, is attending her first anime convention with her artist boyfriend to promote the manga they created together! But when she unexpectedly falls for a mysterious cosplayer, things get a little... well... complicated. What do you do when the person you’re falling in love with is going to be miles away in just a matter of days and you might not see them for a whole year? Take a trip to Yatta Anime Convention, where laughter, heartbreak, drama and excitement come together!

PRAISE FOR DRAMACON:
Publisher’s Weekly: “Using every visual manga convention to its fullest, this ripping little tale is strong and expressive enough to reveal real emotional depth.”

School Library Journal: “Dramacon is one of those series that I can read over and over again […] and every time I flip through the pages, I notice something new.”

IGN: “Dramacon is kept dynamic the whole way through thanks to a vivid artwork, top-notch facial expressions and an excellent use of tones. You can't avoid falling under its charm.”

The  Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "Creator Svetlana Chmakova doesn't skimp on character development or plot progression. Her art is top-notch as well, outstripping even many of her Japanese inspirations with clear storytelling and polished technique."
