EISNER-NOMINATED BITTER ROOT CO-CREATOR CHUCK BROWN TEAMS WITH PRENZY FOR HYPER-STYLISED, ACTION-PACKED ON THE STUMP SERIES THIS FEBRUARY

11/26/2019

PORTLAND, Ore. 11/26/2019 — Eisner-nominated writer Chuck Brown (Bitter Root) joins forces with Italian artist Prenzy (#Like4Like) and letterer Clayton Cowles (The Wicked + The Divine) to create a hyper-violent, hyper-stylized ongoing series On the Stump coming to Image Comics this February.

Each issue of the first story arc will feature a connecting variant cover by Sanford Greene.

“This the rawest story I’ve ever written,” said Brown. “It literally doesn’t hold any punches. Having Prenzy and Clayton bring it to life has been a dream come true.”

In the On the Stump universe, history diverged in 1868 when a pivotal presidential debate turned violent. Today, elections are decided by highly publicized hand-to-hand combat in arenas called Stumps. Unfortunately, the violence doesn't end in the ring, and powerful people can still get away with murder. Senator Jack Hammer and FBI Agent Anna Bell Lister are teaming up to bring it all down.

This February the campaign trail is paved with blood and broken bones.

Prenzy added: "This series has everything I love drawing and the fact that I could also colour it helped me make it even more peculiar. Brown created a great story and Cowles was able to give the pages their rightful value. I can say this work will impress the readers... like a punch on the face!"

On the Stump #1 Cover A by Prenzy (Diamond Code DEC190065) and On the Stump #1 Cover B by Sanford Greene (Diamond Code DEC190066) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, February 19.

On the Stump #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

BREAKING BAD MEETS STAR WARS IN FORTHCOMING SCI-FI EPIC TARTARUS The new ongoing series will launch this February

PORTLAND, Ore. 11/26/2019 — The New York Times bestselling Johnnie Christmas (Alien 3, Angel Catbird) teams up with artist Jack T. Cole (The Unsound) for the upcoming ongoing science fiction epic Tartarus this February from Image Comics.

In Tartarus, a promising young cadet named Tilde is framed for crimes against the empire. As the mystery unravels, Tilde discovers that her mother was the ruthless warlord of the deadly colony Tartarus and a vital player in the galactic war. Now, Tilde’s only way home may be to reclaim her mother’s dark crown.

“Jack and I wanted to build a world steeped in all the great sci-fi we love from Star Wars to Blade Runner and great drama from Breaking Bad to the Odyssey. We got to cooking up this ambitious idea of mixing Sci-fi, Greek Mythology, starships, alchemy, intergalactic dating apps all into a big pot and made what became Tartarus,” said Christmas. “We take Tilde and her friends on an action adventure that delves even further into the dark, to discover the mysteries of Tartarus and her past. But it’s also a lot of fun too! Tilde’s gotta have a sense of humor to cope with finding out she’s the daughter of a space warlord.”
An action-packed adventure filled to the brim with hyper-detailed storytelling, Tartarus is best described as Breaking Bad meets Star Wars and is perfect for fans of Little Bird.

Cole added: “With Tartarus we’ve drawn from a wide range of influences in hopes of creating something unique, and to see what surprises the science fiction genre would yield. There is mysticism next to technology, ancient architecture carved into brutalist complexes, and outfits inspired by everything from Napoleonic uniforms to high fashion. Our hope is to create a rich sense of world that will draw readers in and compliment the scenes of visceral action, adventure, and mayhem.”

Vault Announces FINGER GUNS, a New Series from Justin Richards, Val Halvorson, Rebecca Nalty, & Taylor Esposito.

11/19/2019

Picture
Missoula, MT (11/19/2019):  Vault Comics is extremely excited to announce FINGER GUNS, a new comic book series written by Justin Richards, drawn by Val Halvorson, colored by Rebecca Nalty, lettered by Taylor Esposito, and designed by Tim Daniel.

In FINGER GUNS, two troubled teenagers discover they can manipulate emotions by firing finger guns. There will be laughs. There will be tears. There will be uncomfortable teen feelings and angst. Oh yeah.. And chaos. So much chaos.

"FINGER GUNS is a deceptively brave story," says Vault Editor-in-Chief, Adrian Wassel. "It’s about kids, who have the strange ability to point their fingers at people and—bang—manipulate their emotions, but it is not a story for kids. FINGER GUNS handles some heavy themes and tough imagery with such a deft touch you could almost miss it—almost. You’ll see a young white kid running around blasting people with a finger gun that makes them powerfully angry. You’ll see a young girl of color firing a calm gun to stem the chaotic tide. You’ll see these two become friends—support each other, learn from each other, and even hurt each other, in equal measure. FINGER GUNS is a book about emotional maturity, what it takes to grow up, how few of us actually do, and the importance of harnessing compassion in an age of selfishness. Like I said, it’s deceptively brave. You’ll have so much fun, right up until you feel the tears welling."
"I had a dream that I could control emotions by pointing a finger gun at someone," says writer Justin Richards. "This happened right as I was trying to decide if writing comics was a career I was capable of pursuing. I woke up and thought, “Okay, what did my brain just give me to work with? Did it hand me a masterpiece filled to the brim with brilliant plot twists and subversive narrative threads, the likes of which no one has ever seen? No. It gave me Finger Guns"

"As someone who battles with depression, I’ve always felt like an outcast—and this was no exception," adds Richards. "I felt like my dream about kids with emotion-manipulating finger guns was proof that I didn’t belong in the writing industry. I felt embarrassed to tell anyone about it. It took a while, and the help of some friends, to realise I wasn’t alone. Not only was I not alone, but that painful sense of loneliness could be powerful—if explored."
“When I first read the script for FINGER GUNS, it instantly clicked," says artist Val Halvorson.
"It took me back to when I was younger, trying to navigate through the ups and downs of being a teenager.
I'm a recently transitioning trans man so I've been thinking about that time quite a lot recently,
considering I'm currently going through a puberty I never got to experience back then.
So as you can imagine, as a music loving sad boy going through puberty 2,
I relate to the character, Wes, a great deal. There's just something so real and timeless
about this story that I really appreciate. It feels nostalgic, even though
it takes place in the present, but it never pulls its punches
or sugar coats what it's like to grow up."

FINGER GUNS #1 will hit store shelves in February 2020.
The first issue will drop with it's own Pulp & Paint variant cover by Nathan Gooden & Tim Daniel.
