Discover the Glitz & Glamour of Hollywood with Everyone’s Favorite Detective in a Brand New Mystery July 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 27, 2020) –  BOOM! Written by Jackie Ball (Welcome to Wanderland), illustrated by Mollie Rose (Steven Universe: Harmony), colored by Natalia Nesterenko, and lettered by Jim Campbell, GOLDIE VANCE: LARCENY IN LA LA LAND, features the return of everyone’s favorite young detective in a brand new mystery with all the glitz, glamor, and giant secrets you’d expect from a Hollywood mystery, available in stores July 2020.

Teen sleuth Goldie, and her friends Diane and Cheryl, fly to sunny Los Angeles for the trip of a lifetime! While Cheryl pursues her dreams of going into space, and Diane continues her work as a remote scout for a music label, Goldie spends her days getting lost in the haze of old Hollywood, first by befriending a silent film star whose golden days are long behind her, and then by taking on a case of stolen film memorabilia. But when it becomes clear that this case is just part of a larger pattern, it's up to Goldie to get to the bottom of this show-biz conspiracy.

Vampirella, The Queen Of Comics‘ Bad Girls Gets An Unauthorized Biography

Vampirella, The Queen Of Comics‘ Bad Girls Gets An Unauthorized Biography ~24 Feb 2020

In 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon; over 300,000 music lovers flooded into a farm outside Woodstock, NY for the ultimate concert; the Beatles recorded their final album. And crashing to Earth aboard a damaged spacecraft was a refugee from the distant planet Drakulon, whose inhabitants had drunk from rivers of blood―until they ultimately ran dry. A lone survivor of a dead planet who discovered that the sustenance she needed in order to live flowed not in rivers but in the veins of the humans of this strange new world. A huntress named Vampirella!

Created in 1969 by comics publisher James Warren and writer/editor Forrest J Ackerman, Vampirella is the femme fatale from outer space known for fighting monsters while wearing a one-piece swimsuit and a pair of go-go boots, and who celebrated her 50th anniversary last year with the launch of a new series by her current rights owner, Dynamite Entertainment. And it‘s the fascinating history of this character that‘s explored in the nonfiction book FROM THE STARS…A VAMPIRESS: AN UNAUTHORIZED GUIDE TO VAMPIRELLA‘S CLASSIC HORROR ADVENTURES (ISBN: 978-0-9982361-4-8), now on sale from independent publishing house StarWarp Concepts.

Written by Steven A. Roman, bestselling author of the novels X-Men: The Chaos Engine Trilogy and Final Destination: Dead Man‘s Hand, From the Stars…a Vampiress: An Unauthorized Guide to Vampirella‘s Classic Horror Adventures is an extensive look at Vampi‘s early days, from the debut of her series in 1969 to the death of Warren Publishing in 1983:

The Vampire Who Fell to Earth: It‘s the story of the life of Vampirella at Warren Publishing: her 1969 development by cocreators James Warren and Forrest J Ackerman, with the assistance of artists Frank Frazetta and Trina Robbins; the adventures she went on via the writing and artistic talents of such visionaries as Archie Goodwin, Bill DuBay, Jose Gonzalez, Enrich, Gonzalo Mayo, and many others; and the cancellation of her series in 1982 when the company collapsed. It also looks at the work of four Vampi writers who were just as talented but not as well known: Mike Butterworth, who wrote under the pseudonym Flaxman Loew; T. Casey Brennan; Rich Margopoulos; and Gerry Boudreau.

The Vampirella Episode Guide: The largest section of the book, it examines every story starring Vampirella during the Warren Era: over 100 entries, some with little known behind-the-scenes details. Plus stories behind some of Vampi‘s unpublished adventures!

Vampi Goes to Hollywood: In 1975, Hammer Films announced the development of a Vampirella movie starring model/actress Barbara Leigh and the legendary Peter Cushing. The project crashed in spectacular fashion, but the details have always been murky. Roman attempts to clear up the confusion surrounding it, detailing the production from its launch to its unfortunate ending. And then he takes a critical look at the Vampirella movie that was made in 1996, starring Talisa Soto and rock god Roger Daltrey of the Who—and probably shouldn‘t have been!

The Literary Vampiress: From 1975 to 1976, Warner Books published a series of Vampirella novelizations by science fiction and pulp author Ron Goulart. Roman takes a look at each novel, and explains why they‘re worth tracking down…if you can find copies!

The Vampirella Warren Era Checklist
: A list of every Warren Vampi story, plus every reprint volume from Harris Comics and Dynamite Entertainment, along with little-known trivia!

From the Stars also features: a foreword by Sean Fernald, the Official Vampirella Historian; a peek at Peter Cushing‘s personal copy of the 1976 Vampirella screenplay; a frontispiece by legendary artist Bob Larkin, who painted covers for Warren‘s Vampirella, The Rook, Eerie, and Famous Monsters of Filmland; and rare photos from the collection of Forrest J Ackerman.

ComicsPRO 2020: BAD IDEA Increases Wave One Store Count to 50 Due to Worldwide Demand

Also Makes Every ComicsPRO Retailer Eligible for Enrollment, Which Rules

February 21, 2020 (PORTLAND, OR) – BAD IDEA – the unruly and experimental new comic book publisher coming soon to select comic shops – today announced at the annual ComicsPRO Industry Conference in Portland, Oregon that, in response to a deluge of inquiries from comic shop retailers throughout North America and around the world, the company will be more than doubling the size of its first wave of participating retailers from 20 to 50 stores, beginning with the debut of ENIAC #1 by Matt Kindt and Doug Braithwaite in May 2020.

And because they're great guys, BAD IDEA also announced at ComicsPRO today that they'll be opening registration to every participating ComicsPRO member, who will be able to enroll on-site to become a BAD IDEA Destination Store™™ beginning today during the company's conference roundtable sessions. Additionally, all participating BAD IDEA Destination Store™™ retailer accounts will also be offered a 60% discount and free shipping on all orders.

In order to qualify for participation, each BAD IDEA Destination Store™™ must agree to a stringent set of rules, criteria, and grueling mental and physical challenges (kidding?) ((not kidding)) that include prominent in-store placement for BAD IDEA comics, some truly galling and gauche promotional displays, and strictly enforced "limit one per customer," street date, pre-order, pricing, and minimum/maximum order and allocation policies for all Bad Idea releases.  Failure to comply with the spirit and/or letter of the rules will result in removal from the program and a well-deserved shaming from your friends, family members, and professional colleagues.

(Seriously, we will find you.)

In the event that BAD IDEA's list of approved wave one applicants exceeds 50 stores, retailers may be assigned to the next available wave of admissions. But don't sweat too hard because BAD IDEA will be working overtime to service each and every one of its trusted retail partners and regularly admitting new stores to the program on a rolling basis.

That means that each time a new retailer comes on board as a BAD IDEA Destination Store™™ anywhere in the world, they'll be able to access every prior BAD IDEA release in very limited quantities, so, that way, you and your store can start at the beginning. We knew you had the power within you, all along.

Non-ComicPRO retailers who wish to participate can continue to email BAD IDEA's customer service team at hello@badideacorp.com at any point to schedule a consultation or to just chat about the weather and our fav back issues of Dreadstar.

Speaking of which, BAD IDEA will be kicking things off on May 6th, 2020 with the the historic debut of ENIAC #1 –  the monumental, 40-page first issue of BAD IDEA's prestige-format premiere from New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT), artistic powerhouse Doug Braithwaite (Justice), colorist Diego Rodriguez (X-O Manowar), and Harvey Award-nominated cover artist Lewis LaRosa (Punisher MAX). Here's the gist:

At the height of World War II, the world's most ingenious minds began a race to create a super-weapon capable of ending the war with the push of a button. One of those projects gave us the atom bomb...and another produced the world's first supercomputer: ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) – an immeasurably complex mathematical model that targeted the Axis war machine by calculating missile trajectories and troop deployments.

Everybody knows that. It's real-life American history.

Or so we were told.

On August 6th, 1945, the United States dropped the nuclear bomb on Hiroshima.

Three days later, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki... Only President Truman wasn't the one who gave order.

It was ENIAC.

In the Allies' determination to end the war, they had accidentally created the world's first autonomous machine intelligence...which had quickly deduced that one bomb wouldn't be enough.

But ENIAC's real plan was only just beginning...

Now, 75 years later, an encrypted countdown has just been detected in Earth's satellite network and mankind only has three days left before ENIAC launches every weapon in the planet's nuclear arsenal simultaneously. With few options and even less time, the Secretary of Defense has just given two covert operatives the most important mission in human history: kill ENIAC.

From the minds of New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt and incendiary artist Doug Braithwaite comes ENIAC #1, the debut series from BAD IDEA – the disruptive and experimental new comic publisher pushing the bounds of the medium (and your patience) one issue a time. This is no ordinary comic book... This is the long-classified history of an unspoken superpower more formidable than all of Earth's nations combined...and now its story can finally be told.

And, hey, in the meantime, don't forget: BAD IDEA...only available in comic book stores.

ENIAC #1

#COMICSPRO: ONI PRESS ANNOUNCES A NEW COMIC SERIES FROM CHRIS SAMNEE

2/21/2020

Picture

PORTLAND, OR: Chris Samnee, a creative force behind celebrated runs on Marvel’s Daredevil, Black Widow, Thor The Mighty Avenger and more, and whose previous work with Oni includes the critically acclaimed graphic novel Capote in Kansas, teams with co-writer Laura Samnee and colorist Matthew Wilson for an ongoing middle reader adventure series, Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters in June.

“Reading books like Mike Maihack’s Cleopatra in Space, Judd Winnick’s Hilo series and Jeff Smith’s Bone with our kids really lit the fire under me to get started making something of my own” says co-creator, Chris Samnee. “I’ve always had the urge to do something creator owned, but seeing how much the kids were enjoying these comics made me want to make something I could share with them.”

Exploring the drive and boundaries of rebuilding a family after disaster strikes, Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters follows a tag-team of brawn and brains as two sisters, Rainbow and Jonna, strike out into the unknown on a hunt for their missing father, who was taken a year before.

Battling treacherous territory as the planet around them mysteriously dries up, Rainbow and Jonna will have to combat monsters as they struggle to rediscover their trust and sisterly bond after a year of separation, they struggle to find people in this new world they can trust to help them along the way.

Perfect for fans of Jeff Smith’s classic graphic novel series, Bone, Oni Press publisher James Lucas Jones says “Chris and Laura have long been friends of Oni, and we are thrilled to have them work with us on a series that will delight readers both young and old. With Chris’s years of acclaim drawing legendary comic book characters, Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters is a unique opportunity for comic shops and fans to embark on a fantastic journey with the Samnees telling a story in a way they never have before.”

Chris Samnee continues “Ultimately we wanted to create a book that we could read with our children but something that would appeal to adults as well-- and give me a chance to draw some monsters! Oni and James Lucas Jones were the first company to really take a chance on me by giving me my first real printed comics work— and it felt like a natural choice to come back to Oni with my first creator owned work.”

Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters is an ongoing series for ages 8 years and above, available in comic shops everywhere in June, solicited through Diamond’s April-dated PREVIEWS catalog.

About the Creators:
Chris Samnee is an Eisner and Harvey award-winning cartoonist. He's best known for his work on Daredevil, Black Widow, and Thor: The Mighty Avenger. He lives in St. Louis, Missouri with his wife, Laura, and their three daughters.

Laura Samnee is a co-writer of JONNA AND THE UNPOSSIBLE MONSTERS. She lives in St. Louis, Missouri with her husband, Chris, and their three daughters.

Matt Wilson has been coloring comics since 2003, getting his start coloring for the comics coloring studio Zylonol Studios. After a few years in the studio Matt branched out on his own to color titles like: Phonogram, Young Avengers, Thor, Daredevil, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, The Wicked + The Divine, and Paper Girls. In 2015 Matt's work earned him Eisner Award and Harvey Award nominations.

Introducing the KRAK 8" Dunny by Scott Tolleson - Plasma Stone Edition
"The Krak design was inspired by the Shard design which was originally a design that was going to be in The Odd Ones blind box series. With designing Krak I wanted to do something a little different than I what I usually do. Typically, I like to go pretty heavy on graphics, decals, etc. to support either a basic sculpt. My goal for this one was to have the sculpt be strong enough to not need any graphic assistance. Instead, the translucent material would support the sculpt. I like the way light can interact with faceted clear objects. So with this piece I think the lighting in which you display the piece is important. I'm excited to see this piece come to life and hope Kidrobot fans will enjoy it as well!"

Canto and the Clockwork Fairies One-shot out from IDW May 2020

Feb. 20th, 2020, (Cottage Grove, OR.) — The critically acclaimed fan-favorite, Canto, by David M. Booher and Drew Zucker, makes a valiant return with an all-new one-shot adventure comic, Canto and the Clockwork Fairies!  This delightful modern fairytale for all ages bridges the gap for the adventures to come, with retailer incentives including a 1 in 10 variant cover by Nick Robles (The Dreaming) and 1 in 25 by Mateus Santolouco (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)!

Return to Canto’s world and follow the brave clockwork hero as he leads his people out from their home in Arcana to find somewhere--and something--new!  When Canto encounters a group of captured fairies, it’s up to him to liberate them, but can he do it without being captured himself?

Praise for Canto

“Dark and magical with a glowing heart of gold. If The Wizard of Oz and Labyrinth gave birth to a hero, it would be Canto.”
—Delilah S. Dawson (Star Wars: Phasma, Marvel Action: Spider-Man)

“Booher and Zucker have built a richly envisioned fantasy world that is equal parts fantastical and scary, like all the best fantasy stuff.” —Nerdist

“The character designs are worthy of something that Jim Henson himself would have come up with. Canto feels like Mouse Guard meets Oliver Twist meets your favorite fantasy story.” —Down and Nerdy Podcast

“...A beautiful blend of Phillip K. Dick and L. Frank Baum, a harrowing android love story thrown back into times of steampunk whimsy. And yet, this has the feel of modern magic, make sure you’re a part of it!”
—Steve Orlando (Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Batman/Shadow)

“...packed with adventure, irresistibly charming, and so utterly adored by its creative team that their affection for the characters and their world shines through on every single page.” —The Beat, The Best Comics of 2019

You won’t want to miss Canto and the Clockwork Fairies, slated for release from IDW Publishing May 20, 2020. Written by David M. Booher, art by Drew Zucker, with letters by Deron Bennett, and colors by Vittorio Astone.
