Picture

Missoula, MT (5/29/2020):  Vault Comics announced that two upcoming series, HEAVY and HUNDRED WOLVES will now both be released in September 2020. Because of the Covid-19 shut down, Vault decided to shift their publishing schedule to better accommodate readers and comic shops during these tumultuous times. HEAVY #1 will now be released on September 9th, 2020, and HUNDRED WOLVES #1 will be released on September 16th, 2020.

HEAVY is co-created by writer Max Bemis (Polarity, Moon Knight, X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever) and Eryk Donovan (Memetic, Quantum Teens Are Go), with colors by Cris Peter, letters by Taylor Esposito, and design by Tim Daniel. HEAVY is a dark, violent comedy about love and the transcendence of toxic masculinity. The story centers on Bill, who, though he may be dead, still has a job to do. Welcome to the Big Wait, where folks who don’t quite make the cut go to work off their debt. Everyone in the Wait’s got a job. Bill is a Heavy, whose job is policing the multiverse, making sure bad eggs get what’s coming to them. He’s on track to earn his Climb and reunite with the woman he loves…until he meets his new partner: the worst dude of all time. Heavy is The Punisher for neurotics; Inception for the impatient; Preacher for…well, it’s a lot like Preacher. Max Bemis and Eryk Donavan bring you a story about the existential purpose of dumb boys with big guns.

HUNDRED WOLVES is co-created by writer Myke Cole (The Sacred Throne Trilogy, The Shadow Ops Trilogy) and artist Tony Akins (Fables, Hellblazer, Wonder Woman), with colors by Vladimir Popov, letters by Jim Campbell, and design by Tim Daniel. The Hundred Wolves are bloody-handed terrors of the steppe. Andrei and Oksana have left the Cossack band to raise their daughter on a farm they hold from the noble Count Ostoja, but the raiding life isn’t done with them. Both the Hundred Wolves and the couple’s new liege lord wish to employ their deadly skills—and neither will take no for an answer. From celebrated author Myke Cole and venerable artist Tony Akins comes a story of war and family, blending historical fiction with a touch of fantasy.

Look for HEAVY #1 and HUNDRED WOLVES #1 in the July 2020 Previews catalog.

Z2 COMICS INTRODUCES RETAILER TIERS FOR MADI: ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE FUTURE KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN

5/29/2020

Picture
Publisher and Creators Offer Comic Shops Opportunity to Share in Success of The Standalone Graphic Novel Chapter in the Celebrated ‘MOON Trilogy’

NEW YORK, NY–As the world of comic book retail begins receiving new product from Diamond Comic Distributors, and many states have begun to reopen around the country, Z2 Comics unveils multiple tiers geared toward comic shops in the Kickstarter campaign for the third chapter of the Duncan Jones directed saga he began with MOON!

In just under two weeks, the campaign has already raised over $275,000, making this one of the most successful comics Kickstarter campaigns in recent history! This unique project pairs Jones with some of the biggest names in comics, as assembled by the multiple-Eisner nominated writer/editor, Alex de Campi, and has now proven to be one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

Duncan Jones says “Growing up, traveling around the world, I often felt a lack of roots. But wherever I ended up, comic stores, from Forbidden Planet in London, to Golden Apple in LA, to the tiny little tucked away 2nd floor comic store whose name I can’t remember on the Rue de Bourg in Lausanne Switzerland, always felt familiar and welcoming.  An extended family of comic lovers.  I feel a deep affection for brick and mortar comic stores and bookstores that carry graphic novels. Alex and I wanted to go the extra mile to make it as easy and affordable as possible for that extended family to be part of our success & carry MADI on their shelves.  We love you, comic stores & we want you to thrive!”

“In a very real way, Orbital Comics in London helped get me back into comics, and (along with GOSH) introduced me to so many works that became fundamental to my storytelling” says Alex de Campi. “Now that I’m in the US, I still get all my comics and some of my prose books via mail order from Escape Pod in Long Island. While MADI is about an alternate future where giant mega-corporations run everything, we stiill have the power to avoid that future by supporting the small businesses that in a very real way made me the writer I am today.”

“We recognize the increased financial pressure that many retailers are under, and therefore wanted to be thoughtful in our timing of rolling out an offering to comic shops and independent booksellers. With two full weeks of new product in stores through Diamond, we hope our friends in the direct market are now able to make these purchasing decisions with confidence” says Z2’s vice president of marketing, Jeremy Atkins. “In addition to a competitive 55% discount, retailers who participate in this campaign will be given the first opportunity at in store events, and all will be invited to participate in an exclusive virtual panel for these stores and their customers the week of release.”

MADI is a 260-page road trip graphic novel set in the future, by film director Duncan Jones (MOON, Source Code) and writer Alex de Campi (Bad Karma, Blade Runner), and drawn by some of comics’ most exciting artists including Glenn Fabry, Simon Bisley, Duncan Fegredo and Pia Guerra.

Madi Preston, a veteran of Britain’s elite special operations J-Squad unit, is burnt out and up to her eyeballs in debt. She and the rest of her team have retired from the military but are now trapped having to pay to service and maintain the technology put into them during their years of service.   They're working for British conglomerate Liberty Inc as mercenaries, selling their unique ability to be remote controlled by specialists while in the field, and the debts are only growing as they get injured completing missions. We meet Madi as she decides she’s had enough.  She will take an off-the-books job that should earn her enough to pay out her and her sister, but when the piece of tech she’s supposed to steal turns out to be a kid, and she suddenly blacks out... she finds herself on the run from everyone she’s ever known.

In a globe-spanning adventure from Shanghai to Soho, Madi has to stay one step ahead of the giant corporations closing in on her from all sides…

MADI will be published in softcover by Z2 Comics in November of 2020 and is now available for comic shops and their customers to preorder in hardcover exclusively through Kickstarter, with a special discount of 55% off of cover pricing with a valid Diamond account number. Further information and details can be found through the Kickstarter page.

The full cast of creatives is as follows: Dylan Teague, Glenn Fabry, Duncan Fegredo, LRNZ, Ed Ocaña, André Araújo, Simon Bisley, Rosemary Valero-O’Connell, Tonci Zonjic, Pia Guerra, James Stokoe, RM Guéra, Chris Weston,  Rufus Dayglo, Annie Wu, David Lopez and Christian Ward. Our amazing colour team includes Matt Wilson, Nayoung Kim, Chris O’Halloran, Adam Brown, Jake Phillips, Raúl Arnaiz, Giulia Brusco, Sergey Nazarov and Kelly Fitzpatrick. Lettering is by Alex. LOGLINE:

This is a mature and bloody, sci-fi narrative following the journey of Buford “Junior” LaCroix (AKA Loggerhead.) He was afflicted with a DNA abnormality, which gradually lead to a shocking change in his appearance. After vanishing for many years rumors of his powers and mutations grew. Is he real or just a made up symbol to protect the people in the bayou?

 CREATOR:

Written, Penciled, Inked, and Colored by Bryan SilverBaX

STORY:
The world as we knew it changed after the last of the great wars leaving a large portion of North America a dead wasteland. It's in that wasteland that tales of a monster only known as Loggerhead exist. Within this wasteland valuable elements and minerals have been unearthed creating a hotbed of illegal mining and overrun with scavengers. When some children find themselves endangered while witnessing an illegal scavenger mineral hunt a protector rises from the murky depths of the wasteland to exact retribution.

CREATOR QUOTE:

“I’m really excited to share Loggerhead with the world. Having a comic book published was something I’ve always wanted to do. Loggerhead was originally a part of a whole roster of comic book characters I’d designed. His striking appearance stood out to those I shared my work with and they encouraged me to further develop his story. I happy he has found a home with Scout Comics."

Picture
Missoula, MT (5/25/2020): Vault Comics is offering extensive return-to-market support for retailers as part of the Vault Bound initiative.

The updated Vault Bound initiative extends returnability line-wide across all of our new comics shipping in June and July, while also significantly reducing the price per copy that retailers pay for both our new #1s and new collected editions.
The Vault Bound initiative includes the following:

• $1.00/COPY NET PRICING for all new #1s shipping in June and July.
• $6.50/COPY NET PRICING for all new trade paperback collected editions shipping in June and July.
• FULL RETURNABILITY for all new #1s shipping in June and July.
• FULL RETURNABILITY for all subsequent issues (#2+) shipping in June and July.

The Vault Bound initiative extends to all retailers with a Diamond account, no matter their discount group, and the terms apply to all covers, without restrictions, minimum orders, or qualifiers of any kind.
“We succeed together with comic shops, or not at all,” said Vault’s CEO, Damian Wassel. “If we can help comic shops reduce risk, improve margins, and stabilize cash flow, that’s good for them, it’s good for us, and it’s good for everyone who loves comics.”
Under the Vault Bound initiative, new #1s from Vault will be high-margin and low-risk. For a first issue with a retail price of $3.99, retailers will pay only $1.00, netting $2.99 on every issue sold. These issues are also fully returnable, which means retailer risk is reduced as much possible.
Please reach out to David Dissanayake, Vault's Director of Sales & Marketing, with any questions.

GRIT IS COMING THIS JULY FROM SCOUT COMICS!

5/24/2020

Picture
Logline:
When an aging monster hunter comes up against a foe that can’t be felled with the swing of his axe, he’s forced to face the unintended consequences of his brutal style of problem solving. Southern-fried sword and sorcery!
 The Team:
Writer - Brian Wickman (Big White)
Artist - Kevin Castaniero (Death Saves Anthology)
Colorist - Simon Gough (Ringside, G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes)
Letterer - Micah Myers (Dead Beats, Youth)
Picture
Story Summary:
Old Man Barrow, known best for his sour attitude and his ruthless efficiency. He bites off more than he can chew when a routine troll-hunting gig goes awry, landing him in the clutches of a backwoods doomsday cult. Ignorant to the true nature of the malign forces at work, Barrow is forced to team up with Ari, a hot-headed young witch dead set on breaking him of his ultra-violent habits. Swamp hags and goblin gangs be damned, it’ll be a miracle if these unlikely allies can make it through this mess without killing each other!

 From Writer Brian Wickman
GRIT is a goofy, pulpy fantasy adventure with a lot of heart. I’m thrilled to be releasing it with the fine folks at Scout. I have a tremendous fondness for fantasy that lets itself have some fun. This series is a blood-soaked, goblin-infested love letter to the genre. I’ve had a blast working with this team, and it’s clear on every page just how much fun we’ve had building this world together.

 From Artist Kevin Castaniero
Fantasy was something I always admired, but never felt like I could quite pull off art-wise until Brian sent me ideas for this little story titled GRIT. I felt at home in that world, like Barrow and I had been buddies for a while; I was just along for the journey. A lot of long nights and early mornings went into this book and I hope it shows. Everyone who touched this story gave it hell and I could not be more proud to be a part of it. Cheers.
