Dark Horse Announces New Series From Matt Kindt and David Rubín
MILWAUKIE, Ore., July 14, 2016 — Dark Horse is proud to announce a new series from the talented creative team of Matt Kindt (MIND MGMT, Past Aways, Super Spy, Dept. H) and David Rubín (The Hero, The Rise of Aurora West). Ether is a fantastical story about what happens when science and magic intersect.
Ether follows the adventures of Boone Dias, a science-minded interdimensional explorer from Earth, as he tries to reconcile the existence of magic with his own scientific reality. Boone is a regular visitor to the Ether, a supernatural realm with magical residents. The Ether’s residents trust Boone to solve their toughest crimes by combining his background in science with the Ether’s magic.

Cocreator Matt Kindt explained the parallels between Boone’s science-mindedness and his own: “Ethercame from my love-hate relationship with the supernatural. It’s not a genre I’m particularly attracted to as a creator, and I really wanted to figure out why. So in a lot of ways, the main character in Ether is a surrogate for the part of me that wants to explore the supernatural but also wants everything to be explained — which can literally ruin the magic of a supernatural story.”

The first issue of Ether goes on sale November 16, 2016, with four subsequent issues published monthly.

MARVEL COMICS’ FOOLKILLER DIVES INTO THE PSYCHE OF MARVEL’S BADDEST

New York, NY—July 14, 2016 — Marvel’s Foolkiller steps into the spotlight this fall with a single quest: killing fools.Traditionally armed with a barrage of armaments, Foolkiller is adding a new weapon to his holster: a psychology degree and a desire to help villains reform. Problem is, if they DON’T succeed at reforming…well, he might have to kill them.

Series writer Max Bemis (X-Men: Worst X-Man Ever), accompanied with art from Dalibor Talajić (Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, Red Wolf), plan to take a deep dive into this antihero’s mission to help and improve the Marvel Universe, one villain at a time.

Speaking with Comic Book Resources, Bemis said, “You have an antihero who's a vigilante, who enjoys getting into the minds of these people that, on face value, he would just shoot in the face. That's the basic plot set-up. It's really a fun set-up, and I get to do a lot with it.”

The saying goes that therapists become therapists because they are the ones who need the most help and that adage holds true for Greg Salinger, a.k.a. Foolkiller, “For Greg, he's kind of an outsider in the normal person community, because he was a friggin' vigilante and he's actually a lunatic,” continued Bemis. “I think all of my work will probably have that theme…there's always some kind of fish out of water-ish scenario, because that's my neurotic thing.”

Lay back and prepare for some of the most demented villains of the Marvel Universe to unload all of their problems on the mental health merc ready to help their minds. And if not, then he may have to prescribe a more violent solution.  How does that make you feel?

Beloved comic writer Neil Gaiman returns to "Forbidden Brides"
MILWAUKIE, Ore., July 14, 2016—Dark Horse is excited to announce Neil Gaiman (Sandman) is returning to one of his darkly complicated short stories in Neil Gaiman’s Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire. Originally published as a short story in Gaiman’s collectionFragile Things, Forbidden Brides has been adapted by Shane Oakley into a stunning hardcover graphic novel. Gaiman’s most recent graphic novel, How to Talk to Girls at Parties, debuted at number three on theNew York Times bestseller list.
This haunting example of satirical gothic literature tells the story of a writer struggling to compose nonfiction on a dark, stormy night. Wishing to create serious stories about frail women in white nightgowns, mysterious bumps in the night, and the undead rising to collect old debts, the author is unsuccessful because of his tendency to insert comedy into his dark tales. Talking ravens, family disagreements, and interruptions from his creepy butler further hinder his literary efforts.
Writer Neil Gaiman explained the overarching theme of Forbidden Brides and the aspects of this story that influenced Sandman: “It’s about what fantasy is, and why we write it, and what it would mean to write fantasy if you lived in a Gothic universe. Some of it prefigured things I’d do in Sandman four years later.”
Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire goes on sale January 25, 2017. The hardcover graphic novel is available for preorder from Penguin Random House andAmazon.
The Fragile Things anthology received much fanfare:
“In an ironic story called ‘Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire,’ a struggling author cannot stop writing fiction that reads like awful parodies of horror fiction, because his life itself is an awful parody of horror fiction. ‘It’s not the satirist in you that makes you lampoon the commonplace and the humdrum,’ he is told by a talking raven. ‘Merely boredom with the way things are. D’you see?’” — The New York Times
“Gaiman began as a journalist, wrote comics and now writes everything from poetry to films. His work shows the ease with which he moves between these worlds; he straddles many genres and crosses many lines, one of which is the (sometimes invisible) line between adult and young adult fiction.” — BookPage

TITAN COMICS KICKS OFF NEW LINE WITH A RANGE OF TOP CREATORS INCLUDING MAX ALLAN COLLINS (ROAD TO PERDITION, QUARRY)
AND WALTER HILL – DIRECTOR OF HIT MOVIE THE WARRIORS!

(JULY 11, 2016) Titan Comics is drawing down on the iconic crime imprint Hard Case Crime, ready to pull the trigger on a brand new line of comic books.

Hard Case Crime is the leading publisher of hardboiled crime novels, publishing the giants in the genre: Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Lawrence Block, Mickey Spillane, Ed McBain, Donald E. Westlake, James M. Cain and Max Allan Collins, whose best-selling Quarry series is destined for TV in the highly anticipated adaptation for Cinemax in September – and for comic books in an all-new Quarry comic series from Titan and Hard Case Crime in 2017.

Starting this October, Titan will bring Hard Case Crime’s gritty, sexy, violent world to life. The first shots fired out of the Hard Case Crime comics line will be Prohibition epic Triggerman by the legendary director of The Warriors, Walter Hill, and punky neo-noirPeepland from celebrated crime authors Christa Faust and Gary Phillips.

Debuting in stores on October 5, Triggerman is an operatic Prohibition era mini-series, written by Walter Hill, director of cult 70s New York City gangland smash The Warriors, and illustrated by trusted collaborator Matz (Body and Soul). In the mean streets of Chicago, a convict is thrown headfirst into a life of bloodshed and bullets to save the girl he left behind…

Hitting stores the following week, on October 12, is Peepland – a semi-autobiographical neo-noir mini-series with a punk edge set in the seedy Times Square peep booths of 1980s New York City. Written by award-winning crime novelist and former peep show employee Christa Faust (Money Shot, Nightmare on Elm Street) with Gary Phillips (The Underbelly, The Rinse) and art by rising star Andrea Camerini (Il Troio).

These two explosive new titles debut with a range of variant covers to collect by top industry artists including Fay Dalton (Judge Dredd Magazine), Mack Chater (In the Dark), Alex Ronald (Doctor Who), Caitlin Yarsky (The Changeable Harper Finn), Andrea Camerini, Robert Hack (Sabrina), Dennis Calero (Assassin’s Creed), and Francisco Paronzini (Iron Fist).

“We are so excited to be steering the Hard Case Crime series into a new frontier,” said Ricky Claydon, Direct Sales & Marketing Manager at Titan Comics. “We aim to bring to comics that same grit and gristle that Hard Case Crime is famous for!”

“Before I became a mystery reader, I was a comic book fan – so the chance to expand Hard Case Crime into the world of comics is a dream come true,” said Charles Ardai, winner of the Edgar, Shamus and Ellery Queen awards and editor of Hard Case Crime. “Hard Case Crime is already known for its sexy, stylish artwork, and the sharp, tough, high-velocity stories we tell are a natural for the medium.”

Peepland #1 (on-sale October 5) and Triggerman #1 (on-sale October 12) are both available to order from the August edition of PREVIEWS.

Like a case yet to be opened, the complete range of titles is still lurking in the shadows. For more announcements and news on this exciting new line of comics, join Titan Comics on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

Celebrity Writer and New York Times Best-Selling YA Author Margaret Stohl Relaunches Marvel Comic Series

New York, NY—July 14, 2016— Marvel Comics is proud to present Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel as she takes on her new mantle as the most well-known Super Hero within the Marvel Universe!

As the ashes of Civil War II settle, Captain Marvel must come to terms with her new superstar status-quo, but notoriety doesn’t necessarily mean she’s well liked. Thrust into the spotlight, Carol has come to realize that often times, popularity and pain come hand in hand.

The most recent addition to Marvel’s pool of top-tier and premier writing talent, new Captain Marvel writer, Margaret Stohl (Black Widow: Forever Red, Beautiful Creatures), tells The Hollywood Reporter, “She will be one of the most popular heroes on the planet — but that’s not something she is very comfortable with. And of course she’s lost a lot of folks that she’s loved, so she has to cope with that, too.”

On top of dealing with a public life she never asked for, Captain Marvel’s global defense unit, Alpha Flight, is now tasked with training the next generation of planetary defenders.  But how can Carol be a leader and mentor when the loyalties of heroes of the Marvel Universe are now fractured from Captain Marvel’s role in the most recent Civil War?

“She can't undo the events of Civil War II, and those events will have changed everything — most of all Carol herself,” Stohl says. "Captain Marvel has suddenly become a household name — so what now? While she finds herself at the top of her game, she'll also discover that being there means that game is more dangerous and complicated than ever.”

Does Captain Marvel, and her new recruits, have what it takes? Find out this December in Marvel Comics’ Captain Marvel #1.

BENDIS AND GAYDOS REOPEN ALIAS INVESTIGATIONS WITH JESSICA JONES #1

Jessica Jones Returns for All-new Marvel Comics Series from the Original Creative Team

New York, NY—July 12, 2016 — After a decade, Jessica Jones is back in an all-new solo series! This fall, one of the most complex characters of the Marvel Universe returns for an all-new mystery from the original creative team -- Brian Michael Bendis (Civil War II, Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man, Alias) Michael Gaydos (Alias, Avengers), and David Mack (Alias, Daredevil).

A lot has changed in the Marvel Universe over the past ten years and there are still many secrets hiding in the shadows. Secrets only a special woman like Jessica Jones can hope to uncover. So what haunting secrets from Jessica’s past come back to cause havoc? Speaking with IGN, series writer, Brian Michael Bendis said, "You're going to find out about it in the first issue. We're going to open up a book where Jessica's world has blown up in her face. She's at a place you'll least expect her. You're going to find all of her relationships have altered. And we're slowly going to find out why.”

A lot has happened to Jessica Jones since her debut, but the biggest difference that will be a factor in this new series is the baby girl, Danielle, she had with husband, and former Avenger, Luke Cage.

"Luke and Jessica have tried to raise a baby in a very dangerous environment. We talked about this during [New] Avengers, you're raising a baby in Avengers Mansion and somebody's trying to knock that building over every four days…so your perspective changes, and as an investigator and a detective her perspective will change because she's a mother,” continued Bendis. “I know some people are worried about that baby being dragged like a sack of potatoes that holds down the story or something, but I can think of many ways to tell the story celebrate this part of her life and at the same time complicates it to a degree that a lot of people can relate to. I think a lot of people can relate to trying to 'do it all.' Lord knows I can.”

What unsolved mysteries have fallen through the cracks and what dark secrets have been unrevealed within the Marvel Universe? Alias Investigations is open for business and Jessica Jones is on the case.
