New York, NY—October 12th, 2016 — Because you demanded it! Following the blockbuster finale of Darth Vader #25, the fan-favorite character begins a new journey in STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA #1 – the new ongoing series coming this December! From superstar writer Kieron Gillen (Darth Vader) and fan-favorite artist Kev Walker (Marvel Zombies) comes Marvel’s first ongoing series starring an original character created in the comics!

“What I wanted to do was show what makes Aphra tick,” says writer Kieron Gillen, in an interview with StarWars.com. “That’s the work I feel I’ve got to do with the character, and that kind of push and pull she has between the stuff she does, which is good and bad”.

Following her time in the clutches of Darth Vader, Doctor Aphra has barely escaped with her life. If he ever learns of her survival, he’ll hunt her to the ends of the galaxy. But for now, it’s time for a return to what she does best. With the droids 0-0-0 and BT-1 in tow, she’s off in search of rare artifacts from the galactic center to the Outer Rim and everywhere in between. Aphra’s got debts to pay after all. Just as long as she can stay one step ahead of the Empire, some Bounty Hunters and just about everyone else in the galaxy!

“We all love Aphra so much,” says Star Wars line Editor Jordan D. White. “We were overjoyed that she found a way to survive the wrath of the Dark Lord. Now, she’s free to continue her rogueish adventures in digging up old droids and weaponry and selling them to the highest bidder…so long as she can stay off the Imperial radar.”

This December, the Star Wars galaxy expands into thrilling new directions as Doctor Aphra makes her explosive solo debut. It’s high adventure in deep space when STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA #1 comes to comic shops and digital devices everywhere!

Mike Carey and Arvind Ethan David team up for a supernatural comic book series
San Diego, CA (October 7, 2016) – As announced on the IDW Publishing panel at New York Comic Con, bestselling author and screenwriter Mike Carey (Unwritten, Lucifer, Girl with All the Gifts) and writer and producer Arvind Ethan David (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency) will colloborate on an all-new, original world of darkness and demons – Darkness Visible. Co-writers Carey and David will be joined by Brendan Cahill (Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye) and Livio Ramondelli(Transformers) on art.

Darkness Visible introduces readers to a world where in the mid 20th Century, Demons came out of the shadows. 75 years of uneasy co-existence has spawned an endless terrorist conflict. Detective Daniel Aston, charged with being the thin blue line between the two sides, is tested to the limit when a demon sets up house inside his soul. But to save his daughter, he’ll pay any price—including genocide.

“Mike and I have been talking about Detective Daniel Aston and his well paved Road To Hell since literally the day we met,” said co-writer, Arvind Ethan David. “It was time to tell the story to the world, and we’re delighted to do so with our friends at IDW.”

"It's horror story as political parable," Mike Carey adds. "We live in an age where fear of the other has become a toxic part of the status quo. Suppose that other is an immortal monster who can evict your soul from your body and drive you like a stolen car?"

Let your inner demon out this February when Darkness Visible comes to light. Until then, NYCC attendees can snag an advanced preview at the IDW Publishing Booth #1844.

UNRAVEL ROCK MUSIC’S GREATEST MYSTERIES IN ROCKSTARS THIS DECEMBER

Picture
A brand-new rock ‘n’ roll secret history series

From fan-favorite writer Joe Harris (SNOWFALL, The X-Files) and mega-talented newcomer artist Megan Hutchison comes ROCKSTARS, an all-new ongoing series from Image Comics this December.

When a pattern of unsolved “groupie” murders from the 1970s resumes in present-day Los Angeles, nobody makes the connection except Jackie Mayer, a rock nerd with a strange connection to music’s urban legends and lost history. Together with muckraking music writer Dorothy Buell, they soon uncover a vast conspiracy involving a legendary band, demonic possession, and sacrifices to the dark gods of rock.

“Rock 'n' roll history is filled with the kinds of super-powered beings and colorful characters I was awed by growing up, and bringing that mystique, glamour, pageantry, and power to comics is something I've wanted to do for a long time,” said Harris. “This is my love letter to the bands, era, and music I adore and which has captured my imagination like little else for what feels like forever. Honestly, I feel like I've been writing this series, in my head and heart, since I was 8 years old.”

“I’ve yet to work on a project that has challenged and excited me the way ROCKSTARS has,” said Hutchison. “From the music to the costumes to the characters and the settings, ROCKSTARS is a rich world of horror, humor, mystery, and bad-assness."

ROCKSTARS #1 (Diamond code: OCT160555) hits comic book stores on Wednesday, December 14th. Final order cutoff for retailers is Monday, November 21st.

Announcing the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir, Just in Time for Halloween

-Dark Horse Comics and Portland, Oregon’s Stoller Family Estates Winery have collaborated to create the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir, which will be available on Halloween and is available for pre-order now.
“I can’t imagine a more fitting drink to both celebrate Mike Mignola‘s creative legacy and honor his most famous creation,” said Mike Richardson, President of Dark Horse Comics. “And it’s only fitting that the first time that fans can raise a glass of Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir will be on Halloween.”

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Dark Horse Comics on the special Hellboy wine,“ said Gary Mortensen, President of Stoller Family Estate. “It’s quite an honor to share our wine with such a passionate fan base and to be associated with the amazingly iconic character Hellboy.”
The 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir is a limited edition and will only be available domestically in the United States.
###
About the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir
This is a Pinot Noir, cultivated and crafted with the same passion and intensity that Mike Mignola has brought to the creation of Hellboy for over two decades. The perfect wine to pair with the next issue of the iconic Hellboy. This special bottling is the first in the Hellboy series. Our Reserve Pinot Noir is sourced from a selection of our best vineyard blocks and barrels in the cellar. It is barrel aged in French oak for 10 months prior to bottling and carefully blended from individual lots to articulate the vintage.
Vintage Overview

The 2011 growing season was one for the record books– a true miracle harvest producing age-worthy wines with remarkable color, vibrancy and balance. Oregon’s Willamette Valley experienced the coolest spring and summer on record, so for a time it looked as though ripening would be a challenge. September brought warm, dry weather, which allowed the grapes to reach the final stage of ripening. We began harvest on October 13 and completed our latest harvest on record in early November.
The wine label for the 2011 Hellboy Reserve Pinot Noir features an illustration by legendary HELLBOY creator Mike Mignola and Eisner Award-winning colorist Dave Stewart which originally appeared as the cover for the classic comic book HELLBOY: THE SLEEPING AND THE DEAD #2.

About Bill Stroller:
Bill Stroller was born here on the property and raised on the family farm outside of Dayton, Oregon. He received a degree in business and economics from Pacific University, as well as an MBA from Portland State University. In 1983, Bill co-founded Express Employment Professionals, currently the largest privately-held staffing company in the world, with over 600 offices in four countries. Additionally, in 2001, he founded Xenium, a human resources outsource company. This business success has enabled Bill to pursue his passion of wine and to contribute to his community. Bill's most prominent civic commitment was to his alma mater, as the former chair of the Pacific University Board of Trustees.
True to his Oregon upbringing, Bill sees himself as a custodian of the land he loves, and cares deeply about sustainability and environmental protection. Driven by these values, he sought to create a business that would last for the next two centuries and beyond.

When Bill acquired the family property from his cousin in 1993, many considered it to be marginal farmland at best. But Bill recognized that the rocky, well-drained Jory soil, the elevation between 300 and 650 feet, and the land’s south facing slope were all ideal for growing wine grapes.
Bill, already a veteran of the wine world thanks to his co-ownership of Chehalem Winery, planted his first ten acres each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in 1995. He leveraged the experience of consulting viticulturists, but also adapted many newer vineyard techniques in order to maximize the fruit quality.
As an ardent preservationist, Bill built from the ground up a business he could one day entrust to his great-grandchildren. This drive for sustainability earned the vineyard the first-ever LEED Gold certification in the world.

About Stoller Family Estates Farm
For Bill Stoller, purchasing the family property brought his connection to the land full circle.Having worked the land in his youth, Bill understood that the sloped, rocky terrain with its low-yielding soil, would be ideally suited for a world-class vineyard.

The farm had been in the Stoller family since the 1940s when Bill’s father and uncle purchased the land to raise turkeys. Throughout the next five decades, the farm grew from a small family operation into one of Oregon’s largest. When the family farm ceased its operations in 1993, Bill seized the opportunity and acquired the land.

A Land Made for Wine
Bill’s decision to transform the family farm into a vineyard stemmed from much more than wishful thinking. With the help of Burgundian winemaker Patrice Rion and local vineyard consultants, Bill confirmed that the very factors that made this land a poor choice for turkey farming were perfect for an award-winning vineyard.

Bill knew that growing vines often contradicted conventional farming logic. The rocky terrain that broke discs and plows when tilled, the southern-sloped ground that made growing wheat difficult, and the low-yielding Jory soils were all sought-after ingredients of a successful vineyard.
In 1995, Bill planted 10 acres each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, combining the experience of consulting viticulturists with innovative vineyard techniques in order to maximize the grape’s quality. Today, in addition to these signature varieties, the vineyard also grows Pinot Gris, Riesling, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Pinot Blanc.

Picture
Image Comics and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund are proud to present LIBERTY ANNUAL 2016, coming this November. Shipping on the eve of the U.S. election, this year’s installment of CBLDF LIBERTY ANNUAL is a call to optimism that celebrates real people whose efforts changed the world.

“Our mission was to create a comic that is an honest tonic to the overwhelming negativity that defines our current cultural climate,” said CBLDF Executive Director and LIBERTY ANNUAL 2016 co-editor Charles Brownstein. “With the creators in this book, we worked to inspire readers by telling true stories of people who made a difference in the world and who celebrate how each of us can be the change we want to make.”

From suffragettes to sports legends, creative visionaries to courageous citizens who took a stand, the subjects of CBLDF LIBERTY ANNUAL 2016 are brought to life by extraordinary creators. Subjects include:

·         Muhammad Ali by Paul Pope (Battling Boy)
·         Louise Michel by Bryan and Mary Talbot (The Red Virgin)
·         Gene Roddenberry by Dan Schkade (The Spirit)
·         Jim Haynes by Joe Keatinge (SHUTTER) and Ken Niimura (I KILL GIANTS)
·         Leo Burnett by Larry Marder (Beanworld) and Shannon Wheeler (God Is Disappointed in You)
·         Ida Wells by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett (Boilerplate)
·         Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges by Ron Wimberly (PRINCE OF CATS)
·         Elizabeth Woodhull by Andrew Aydin (March) and Tim Fielder (Matty's Rocket)
·         Jane Addams by M.K. Reed (Americus) and Lisa Rosalie Eisenberg

“The first step to changing the culture is to change the narrative,” said SHUTTER creator and co-editor Joe Keatinge. “Each comic profiles one person who positively influenced humanity in some way—some big, some small—and in doing so reminds us we're not separated from the world at large. We're part of it. And we can change it."

All proceeds from this benefit anthology support Comic Book Legal Defense Fund's important work protecting the freedom to read, including current efforts to challenge and clarify legislation affecting retailers in Louisiana and California, as well as First Amendment emergencies affecting creators, readers, librarians, and educators throughout the United States.

CBLDF PRESENTS: LIBERTY ANNUAL 2016 Cover A by Nate Powell (Diamond code: SEP160655) and Cover B by Brandon Graham (Diamond code: SEP160656) will hit comic book stores Wednesday, November 2nd. Final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, October 10th.
