Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson, Key Architects of Star Trek Lore in
Television and Comics, Reunite for Adventures in the 32nd Century

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 20, 2021) – Comic book and graphic novel publisher IDW today announces that The United Federation of Planet’s far-flung future will be further explored in a new four-issue miniseries, Star Trek: Discovery – Adventures in the 32nd Century, based on the wildly popular series streaming on Paramount Plus.

The new series reunites co-writers Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson, whose previous collaboration on Star Trek: Discovery comics included The Light of Kahless, Succession, and Aftermath. The authors are joined by artist Angel Hernandez, celebrated by fans for his work on Star Trek / Green Lantern: The Spectrum War and, most recently, Star Trek: Manifest Destiny.

Each issue of Adventures in the 32nd Century will spotlight a different cast member, and the first issue’s focus promises a unique perspective from the Star Trek franchise as it reveals the secret history of the queen herself: Grudge the Cat! A flashback tale of her first meeting with Cleveland “Book” Booker sets the stage for a trajectory establishing Grudge as the greatest feline spacefarer of all. Subsequent issues will focus on ensign Adira Tal, Lieutenant Keyla Detmer, and science officer Linus.

“Discovery's arrival in the 32nd century opens up a whole new universe of adventure for the crew, from the feline to the Saurian. It's a blast telling stories eight hundred years in the future of Star Trek, where we really have never been before, exploring different facets of their lives,” says Johnson.

“It’s no secret that Star Trek: Discovery’s television series has an amazing cast of characters, and being able to translate those characters and their stories into the comics is a real treat for not only the fans, but also us as well,” says editor Heather Antos. “Diving deeper into Queen Grudge’s mind, to Adira’s relationship with Gray and more, Star Trek: Discovery – Adventures in the 32nd Century gives readers an incredibly detailed perspective of these fan favorite characters.”

Star Trek: Discovery – Adventures in the 32nd Century will be available with two cover variants for retailers and fans to enjoy, including Cover A by interior artist Angel Hernandez and a Retailer Incentive edition by Aaron Harvey.

For information on how to acquire Star Trek comics and graphic novels from IDW, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

Picture
It's a Tribute to Steve Perrin
With a Huntsman 3-Pack!
THREE
SUPER-
SIZED
52-PAGE
ISSUES

Here's some news! We just got word from our printer that Huntsman #8 has already printed and shipped. And that means we'll be able to send out copies to our supporters the instant this project funds on IndieGoGo.

So if you haven't yet checked this one out to see if it's worthy of your support, please do. There's less than one week to go! And here's why we think it's important:

When Steve Perrin passed away several weeks ago, he left us with one unpublished story, a 28-page crossover adventure featuring the HUNTSMAN and our time-traveling hero ETERNITY SMITH. We're hoping to be able to publish that tale in the ninth issue of the Huntsman.

But we do need to raise a chunk of money in order to finance that effort. To that end, we have a crowdfunding effort underway on IndieGoGo. You can find it here:

https://igg.me/at/huntsman

Available rewards include copies of any or all of the three most recent issues of Huntsman, along with complete sets of Huntsman, Eternity Smith, or Psyche comic books.

Alternately, if you'd like to provide direct support, you can do that from the Huntsman project page:

http://www.heroicmultiverse.com/heroicpub/huntsman/

Hope to hear from you.

And do keep your eyes open. There are many more projects in the works.

IDW Debuts the Vicious and Darkly Humorous Sequel Comic
from a Fan-Favorite Transformers Creator in March

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 17, 2021) – Livio Ramondelli, the renowned illustrator beloved by fans for a decade of atmospheric Transformers storytelling, returns to his labor of love, The Kill Lock, with its first-ever sequel series entitled The Kill Lock: The Artisan Wraith. The debut comic book in this vicious and darkly funny sci-fi miniseries will arrive in March, written and illustrated by Ramondelli and published by IDW.

“Making the first series was one of the best experiences of my life, and I’m ecstatic that the reception to it has allowed the story of these characters and their world to continue,” says Ramondelli.

The original Kill Lock series, a captivating cult hit released in 2019 and 2020, introduced four sentient robots -- a soldier, an addict, a murderer, and a child -- who were bound together by a “Kill Lock” as punishment for irredeemable crimes. If one of them dies, they all will… a fate that forces them to protect each other while searching for a cure for their seemingly inevitable, linked deaths.

The new Artisan Wraith storyline picks up where the first volume left off, the four criminals having managed to escape destruction… albeit not without complications. One of their number -- the smartest and most malicious -- now inhabits an unbreakable body and has a planet at his command. The authorities can not let this stand, deploying two of the deadliest assassins in the universe to eliminate this threat.

“The central premise of The Artisan Wraith is: If you had both the might and the mind to remake the faults that you see in society, would you improve it or create something worse?” says Ramondelli. “The scope of this series is larger than the first, and will explore not only the future of the prior characters, but also introduce new ones as well as explore the dark origins of their universe.”

"Livio's a great storyteller,” says IDW editor David Mariotte. “From his earliest work, he's always had a sense of style and a knack for bringing cinematic compositions to the comics page. The Kill Lock brought him to the next level with an amazingly humorous and wickedly exciting story, and The Artisan Wraith raises the stakes again.”

Praise for The Kill Lock:

“Utterly captivating.” —ComicBook.com

“Original and intelligent.” —Monkeys Fighting Robots

“A tale which will catch you off guard, evoke emotions you were not expecting, and pull you into its narrative.” —Major Spoilers

“I find myself so involved, invested, and thoroughly engaged from the start, and I simply do not wish the story would end. I have mad respect for Livio as he is pretty much doing it all here . . . he has opened up a world of storytelling.” —Reading with a Flight Ring

For information on how to acquire The Kill Lock trade paperback (isbn 9781684057191) and the seven-issue sequel series, The Kill Lock: The Artisan Wraith, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

Heather Reilly Colour Edition

Heather Reilly Color Edition
MAGIC! MYSTERY! MURDER!
And Hard-Boiled Detective Action!

We're into the last week of crowdfunding for the Heather Reilly Colour Edition. And we could sure use your help.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/heroicpublishing/heather-reilly-in-color

HERE'S THE STORY, FROM
ADAM WALTERS HIMSELF:

The genesis of it dates back to my teen years, way back in the 1970s. It goes back to a realisation I had one day: We're all trapped inside our own heads.

Now, for most people, the dichotomy of brain and body never even seems to be understood (witness the number of people who think trading brains with a genius would make them smarter but otherwise unchanged). However, I found it quite a revelation.

We think of ourselves as one unit, mind and body, inseparable. We go through life assuming everyone experiences reality the same way. But how can we KNOW? How can I know that what you see as blue is the colour I see as blue? To each of us, it's what we've been told all our lives is blue. But your blue could be my orange. My red may be your green, my purple your yellow. Ultimately, it's an unknowable difference, albeit a difference that makes not a whit of difference to any of us. But the question is still there: Do you see what I see?

This led to the inevitable question: What if I COULD get inside someone else's head? What would it be like? The very idea seemed made for the comic book format. That perfect blend of text and images would allow for visual storytelling, while allowing for a verbal first-person narration as a counterpoint to the imagery.
And, being a red-blooded heterosexual MALE, I quickly decided that I was gonna get inside any OTHER head (and consequently BODY), I would definitely prefer it to be a FEMALE body. If I was gonna explore all the aspects of existence in another body, I'd definitely want it to be as DIFFERENT from my OWN equipment as possible. After all, how interesting a story would it be to go from one male body to another? Wow. I'm taller. How weird. Personally, I wouldn't have been able to keep myself awake long enough to write it.

Ah! But the FEMALE form. Unexplored territory for ANY man! An entirely NEW set of sensations and experiences in something as simple as getting a cup of coffee at McDonald's. And the social dichotomy was even MORE fascinating. To go from the metaphorical top of the heap to a lower rung of existence--the possibilities seemed ENDLESS!

And please, don't inundate me with hate mail. For most guys, back in the 70s, that's how it seemed.

Anyway, that's how the idea for HEATHER REILLY began.

Over the years, I refined it, and reexamined it, and reworked it, and refined it again.
I had extensive plans for the characters--supporting cast, old girfriend, new town, continuing revelations about just how little our hero knew his own sister, even a spin-off title. Sadly, at the time, I could never interest a comic book company in the property. I did finally get the first part of it published in black & white a couple of decades ago by Sandy Thomas Publications, and I have been ever grateful.
Some time later, Dennis Mallonee offered me the chance to work on numerous Heroic Publishing characters, including Flare, Black Enchantress, and a couple of Dennis's own transgendered characters, Raven Gold and the Sensational G-Girl. After numerous discussions, I asked Dennis if he might be interested in Heather. I'm pleased to say he found her (or is it him?) worthy of joining his universe.
And so, here we are. I hope this new colour edition does well.

If it does catch on, I hope to finally do some of the other issues.

I might even get to that Werewolf tale.

AND HERE'S THE SCOOP:

This time, we're doing it in colour!

The color work has already been done. It's ready to go. But we still need to raise enough money to cover printing costs as well as the expense of getting that colour work done. That's why we've launched a Heather Reilly Kickstarter!

If you'd like to support this project, please visit it here:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/heroicpublishing/heather-reilly-in-color

There are lots of rewards available, and we'll be adding a few more before the Kickstarter ends (by the way, it ends on Christmas Eve).

We're hoping this will generate enough support to significantly help out Adam with his medical expenses. But that consideration aside, Heather Reilly is still a great, classic story. And Heroic Publishing is happy to take this opportunity to present it in colour for the very first time.

"One of the worst secrets in comics is that I am one of the world's biggest Whovians!” says Dan. “I've been regularly watching Doctor Who since the Tom Baker years, and am deeply devoted to every incarnation of the show! I've been waiting to write stories for the Doctor my whole life! And I couldn't be happier than getting a chance to tell an all-new tale of the Tenth Doctor – and to be doing this with Chris and all the fine folks at TITAN! Allons-Y!"

“I'm very excited to be working on this project with Dan - he's a huge Who fan, and it shows. This Doctor Who special exudes all of Dan's creativity and love of storytelling, with a few surprises along the way!” says Doctor Who Comics editor, Jake Devine.

"We're totally fired up that Dan is bringing his incredible knowledge and lifelong enthusiasm for Doctor Who to writing a story that will lead into a year long chapter for our favourite Time Lord," say Titan Comics Publishers, Dr Vivian Cheung & Nick Landau

LOS ANGELES, CA (December 15, 2021) –  BOOM! Studios announced today a brand new original graphic novel, HOLLOW. From Shannon Watters, the co-creator of the bestselling worldwide phenomenon Lumberjanes, and co-writer debut author Branden Boyer-White, rising star artist Berenice Nelle (Wanderlicht), and colorist Kaitlyn Musto (Specter Inspectors), comes a supernatural queer romance and adventure set in the infamous town of Sleepy Hollow, available in September 2022.

Isabel "Izzy" Crane and her family have just relocated to Sleepy Hollow, the town made famous by—and obsessed with—Washington Irving's legend of the Headless Horseman. But city slicker-skeptic Izzy has no time for superstition as she navigates life at a new address, a new school, and, with any luck, with new friends. Ghost stories aren't real, after all....

Then Izzy is pulled into the orbit of the town's teen royalty, Vicky Van Tassel (yes, that Van Tassel) and loveable varsity-level prankster Croc Byun. Vicky's weariness with her family connection to the legend turns to terror when the trio begins to be haunted by the Horseman himself, uncovering a curse set on destroying the Van Tassel line. Now, they have only until Halloween night to break it—meaning it's a totally inconvenient time for Izzy to develop a massive crush on the enigmatic Vicky.

Can Izzy's practical nature help her face the unknown—or only trip her up? As the calendar runs down to the 31st, Izzy will have to use all of her wits and work with her new friends to save Vicky and uncover the mystery of the legendary Horseman of Sleepy Hollow—before it's too late.

Shannon Watters is the co-creator and co-writer of the award-winning hit comic book series Lumberjanes. She is also the former head of BOOM! Box, the BOOM! Studios imprint behind critically acclaimed comics and graphic novels such as Giant Days, The Backstagers, Lumberjanes, Fence, Goldie Vance, Heavy Vinyl, and more.

"HOLLOW is the queer-teen-love-story meets spooky-goofball-supernatural-caper that my Scooby-Doo-ifed young self had wished existed. Writing HOLLOW with Branden was the best part of last year, and seeing it come to life at the extraordinary hands of Berenice and Kaitlyn has easily been the best part of 2021,” said Watters.

Branden Boyer-White is an award-winning fiction writer with an MFA from Arizona State University. HOLLOW is her first venture into writing for graphic storytelling, a form she’s since fallen in love with.

“I’ve always been a collector of ghost stories, and the legend of the Headless Horseman is one of my favorites,” said Boyer-White. “It’s a dream come true to add our link in the chain of The Horseman’s spirited legacy, and we can’t wait for readers to take this fun, eerie ride through our twist on the tale.”

Berenice Nelle is an illustrator and comic artist from Germany, who is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in illustration at the HAW Hamburg. After taking part in multiple group exhibitions in Berlin and Hamburg in the past, she has begun to focus on comics. Since then, she has started publishing her original graphic novel and ongoing webcomic Wanderlicht under her alias, Neberias, before joining the team to work on HOLLOW.

“I'm excited for you to meet these absolutely lovable characters and dive into this magical and spooky world that Shannon and Branden have built in HOLLOW. I enjoyed illustrating our heroes just as much as I enjoyed laughing, spending time and feeling with them during their adventure,” said Nelle.

HOLLOW features cover art by acclaimed artist Naomi Franquiz (Proctor Valley Road).

“Shannon has proven time and again that there is an audience for queer, diverse, interesting stories for readers of every stripe. With her work on bestselling and widely acclaimed series, she has truly broken down barriers and proven that comics are for everyone,” said Sophie Philips-Roberts, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “So it’s an absolute honor to be working with her, Branden, Berenice, and Kaitlyn to bring their vision of a modern queer Legend of Sleepy Hollow to life, and we can’t wait to share the laughs, tears, romance, action, and ALL the scares with delighted fans worldwide.”

HOLLOW is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning BOOM! Box imprint, home to groundbreaking original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Juliet Takes a Breath by Gabby Rivera and Celia Moscote; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; Buckhead by Shobo and George Kambadais; Mamo by Sas Milledge; Save Yourself! by Bones Leopard and Kelly and Nichole Matthews; Specter Inspectors by Bowen McCurdy and Kaitlyn Musto; The Last Witch by Conor McCreery and V.V. Glass; Ghosted in LA by Sina Grace and Siobhan Keenan; The Avant-Guards by Carly Usdin and Noah Hayes; Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna the Mad; Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams; Misfit City by Kirsten Smith, Kurt Lustgarten, and Naomi Franquiz; and educational series Seen: True Stories of Marginalized Trailblazers.
