by Olivia Olson and Slimm Fabert

Discover The Future of Your Favourite Vampire Queen & Former Ice King in June 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 29, 2019) – BOOM! Studios and Cartoon Network today revealed a first look at ADVENTURE TIME™: MARCY & SIMON #6 (of 6). Writer Olivia Olson (voice of Marceline, Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time™) and artist Slimm Fabert (Adventure Time™ comic series) bring fans the final issue of the exciting official comic book continuation by revealing what’s next for the once immortal Simon and the still immortal Vampire Queen Marceline in comic book form.

Marcy and Simon's friendship has endured over 900 years and through bouts of insanity and amnesia so there’s no way that friendship ends now, right? Everything comes to a head as Marcy, Simon, Jake, Finn, and BMO venture forth to confront the Golb version of Betty in order to save Simon’s memories and his life, while Marcy’s dad Hunson continues to interfere from the Nightosphere. No matter how tough the going gets, though, Marcy gets tougher and she lays everything on the line for her closest friend in this shocking conclusion to this epic story about the centuries-old connection between Simon Petrikov and Marceline the Vampire Queen.

A modern-day fable, the critically-acclaimed Adventure Time became a global success, attracting adult and kid viewers alike over the course of 10 seasons. It follows unlikely heroes Finn and Jake, buddies who traverse the mystical Land of Ooo and encounter its colorful inhabitants. The best of friends, our heroes always find themselves in the middle of heart-pounding escapades. Finn, a silly kid with an awesome hat and Jake, a brassy dog with a big kind heart, depend on each other through thick and thin. Adventure Time™ was created by Pendleton Ward and produced at Cartoon Network Studios.

BOOM! Studios has been publishing the New York Times bestselling Adventure Time comic books and graphic novels through their KaBOOM! imprint for middle grade readers since 2012 and been honored with Eisner, Harvey, and Diamond Gem Awards for the series.

ADVENTURE TIME™: MARCY & SIMON is Olson’s third writing contribution to the expanded literary world of the eponymous franchise, previously collaborating with her father Martin Olson (the voice of “Hunson Abadeer”) on The Adventure Time™ Encyclopedia. The two also co-authored Adventure Time™: The Enchiridion & Marcy's Super Secret Scrapbook, written from a first-person perspective through Marceline's diary entries about when she and Simon first met. Both Adventure Timebooks, published in partnership between Abrams and Cartoon Network, are available now everywhere books are sold.

ADVENTURE TIME™: MARCY & SIMON #6 features a main cover by Brittney Williams (Goldie Vance), along with variant covers by artists Jamie Loughran and Amelia Vidal.

ADVENTURE TIME™: MARCY & SIMON is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning KaBOOM! imprint, home to comics for middle grade and younger readers including licensed series such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Regular Show, Ben 10, and Over The Garden Wall, along with original series likeJust Beyond: The Scare School by R.L. Stine and Kelly & Nichole Matthews, Hex Vet by Sam Davies, RuinWorld by Derek Laufman,  Hotel Dare by Terry Blas and Claudia Aguirre, and Pandora’s Legacy by Kara Leopard, Kelly & Nichole Matthews.

Spotlight on Classics on Infinite Earths

5/28/2019

With DC expanding its movie and TV offerings, we thought we'd remind you about our big book on the Justice League and DC universe-wide crossover, written by Julian Darius.
Picture

In this series, acclaimed comics scholar Dr. Julian Darius argues that the DC Universe is old enough to have produced a canon of classic stories. Here, he analyses this canon as it pertains to the Justice League and DC’s universe-wide crossovers.
Since 1940, DC Comics has been bringing its heroes together, first as the Justice Society, then (beginning in 1960) as the Justice League, and finally (beginning in 1985) in universe-wide crossovers. Shared super-hero universes achieved widespread attention in the wake of Marvel’s movies, but DC’s been paving the way since 1940.
A decade in the making, Classics on Infinite Earths takes readers on a tour of this history, using discussion of classic stories as a unique way of illuminating the history and evolution of the DC Universe. In the process, Dr. Julian Darius offers what may be the very first long-term study of how to manage such a shared universe.
The book runs 428 pages.

The book is now is available in print and on Kindle. (Just a reminder: you don’t need a Kindle device to read Kindle-formatted books; you can download a free Kindle reader for most computers, phones, and tablets.) Find out more on the book’s official page or its Facebook page.

Thanks for your support of Sequart's work! Since 1996, we've been a big part of promoting comics as a legitimate form of art, and we appreciate your kind and heartwarming support!

Gender Queer: A MemoirIn Stores Everywhere TODAY!

(W) Maia Kobabe (A/CA) Maia Kobabe
Maia Kobabe (who uses the pronouns e/em/eir) started Gender Queer Comicsas a way to explain to eir family what it means to be nonbinary and asexual. What e has created, however, is much more than just a personal story (though it is that), but a useful and touching guide to advocates, friends, and humans everywhere on genderqueer identity—what it means and how to think about it.

Gender Queer: A Memoir is another important addition to the catalog of the publisher that promises “comics for everyone,” documenting Maia’s journey of self-discovery and burgeoning confidence to tell the world who e really is. The book offers a deeply personal but also universal account of coming to terms with what it truly means to be the person you were born to be.

May 28, 2019) Ahead of BookExpo America, Humanoids has named Ailen Lujo as Director of Sales & Marketing and announced a new Sales & Marketing structure. Lujo will oversee distribution, sales, and marketing for Humanoids' publications in English (print & digital), and report to Humanoids’ Chief Operating Officer Alex Donoghue. Lugo is the latest major publishing figure to join Humanoids. Last fall the company announced John Cassaday as Chief Creative Officer and named Mark Waid as Director of Creative. The Los Angeles-based publisher of some of the world’s most iconic and groundbreaking science fiction and fantasy graphic novels is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.

“Ailen brings invaluable veteran leadership and book trade publishing expertise to Humanoids at a crucial time for the company’s continued evolution as Humanoids expands with new imprints and into new markets,” said Humanoids CEO and Publisher, Fabrice Giger.

Humanoids has recently expanded its efforts to reach new readers across different markets with a series of publishing initiatives: the literary graphic novel imprint Life Drawn, which features deeply personal, slice of life stories; the all ages imprint, BiG; and an ambitious shared universe, H1 which officially launches on June 6th with the publication of IGNITED issue 1 by co-writers Mark Waid and Kwanza Osajyefo, artist Phil Briones and colorist Leonardo Paciarotti.

Lujo is a publishing veteran of nearly two decades, having worked most recently at DC Comics as Director of Books Marketing. Lujo began her publishing career at Soho Press, where, as Director of Sales and Marketing, she enabled the independent NYC press to achieve a worldwide reach into brick and mortar bookstores and online retailers. During her tenure at DC Comics as Executive Director of Trade Marketing, she was instrumental in the successful launch of multiple global imprints, including DC Black Label, and DC Ink and Zoom.

“To best serve our new publishing initiatives, the company is expanding and reorganizing the Sales & Marketing department,” said Humanoids’ Chief Operating Officer Alex Donoghue.

Harley Salbacka has been named to the newly created Sales Representative role, which will interface with direct market retailers, booksellers and librarians. Salbacka, who was previously the Sales & Marketing Assistant, has been with the company since June of 2018, after years of experience as a manager in comic book retail, as an educator, and as a lifelong comic book fan.

Andrea Torres has joined the company as Sales & Marketing Assistant. Torres began her career as a Digital Marketing Intern at a Big 5 publishing house after attending the graduate certificate program at Denver Publishing Institute. Previous to joining Humanoids, she was an Editorial Assistant at a university press.

Both Salbacka and Torres will both report directly to Lujo.

“As Humanoids expands its catalog, with an aggressive slate of major graphic novel and comic book releases, it’s vital that we approach our distribution, promotion and sales strategy with the same care and creativity that we bring to the acquisition and creative process,” said Humanoids’ Chief Operating Officer Alex Donoghue. “We’re thrilled to have Ailen – with the support of Harley and Andrea – join us to lead those efforts.”

For more updates on Humanoids on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, as well as the newly launched H1 Twitter account.

About Humanoids: Co-founded by legendary creator Mœbius, HUMANOIDS released its first graphic novels 44 years ago in Paris, France, and has published thousands of titles since, including international bestsellers and iconic series such as The Incal and Barbarella. Based in Hollywood, California, with branches in Paris, London, and Tokyo, Humanoids is currently developing multiple film adaptations of its books.

TODD MCFARLANE & GREG CAPULLO TO DRAW HISTORIC SPAWN #300 COMIC BOOK ISSUE

5/20/2019

McFarlane’s SPAWN makes history as the longest running, creator-owned comic book with superstar creative team

LAS VEGAS, Nev. 05/20/2019 — Todd McFarlane’s SPAWN character sets the stage for a historic celebration as it breaks the record for the longest-running, creator-owned comic in the world. To mark this momentous occasion, McFarlane has gathered a team of superstars from the comic industry to contribute to this giant sized 72-page book. The big news for SPAWN #300 is that award-winning artist, Greg Capullo (Batman), returns to illustrate SPAWN. Capullo first brought his talents to Image Comics' longest running title, with issue #16, leading to a visually-stunning run as the book’s featured artist, culminating in the hallmark 100th issue.

Following his seminal work on DC Comics’ iconic Batman, Capullo will be the main featured interior artist on SPAWN #300, alongside another major revelation...

For the first time since 1995, Todd McFarlane, one of the top-selling artists in comic book history, will return to pencil and ink interior artwork of the character he created during his high school days!
“I created SPAWN back when I was a teenager hoping to someday break into the comic book industry,” said Todd McFarlane, SPAWN creator, and President at Image Comics. “Now, over 40 years later, not only was I able to have a career drawing and writing comics, but SPAWN has been by my side for most of that journey. Even more exciting, SPAWN is becoming the longest running creator-owned comic in the world!

“The group of creative folks helping out on this historic SPAWN 300th issue is something that I hope thrills the ‘inner 15-year-old' in all of us. Plus, to have Greg Capullo come back to this title after so many long years, is what has me most excited as I personally consider him to be the top talent drawing in our industry today.”
The superstar creative team doesn’t end with Capullo and McFarlane. Current SPAWN artist, Jason Shawn Alexander, fan-favourite J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girl, Spider-Man), rising star Jerome Opeña (Uncanny X-Force, Seven to Eternity) and best-selling writer Scott Snyder (Batman, Metal, Wytches), all bring their talents aboard to help usher in SPAWN’s next grand evolution.

The birth of Image Comics in 1992 was an exciting time, but there are few moments I remember more vividly than getting my hands on the first issue of SPAWN,” said Eric Stephenson, Publisher & Chief Creative Officer at Image Comics. “Todd was already a comics superstar at that point—but SPAWN vibrated with an energy all its own and I think everybody knew it was destined not only to be a hit but to stand the test of time. The fact that we’re approaching issue 300 nearly 30 years later is a testament to its impact not just on Image, but the industry as a whole. Go, Todd!”

SPAWN #300, a 72-page full-colour comic book, celebrating 27 years, and counting, of the hit independent series with an all-star lineup of comics creators, will be in stores August 29, 2019. The title will feature 12 covers by McFarlane, Capullo, Campbell, Opeña, and Alexander, including gorgeous black and white “Artist Edition” variants showcasing the original, inked artwork of both Capullo and McFarlane. This historic, oversized issue will retail for $7.99.
