LOS ANGELES, CA (December 21, 2018) – BOOM! Launched in 2014 under BOOM! Studios’ YA-focused BOOM! Box imprint by series co-creators Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooklyn Allen, and Noelle Stevenson,Lumberjanes was originally solicited as a limited series, but the overwhelming response from fans transformed it into an ongoing series that has become a New York Times best-seller, earned numerous nominations for prestigious awards including the GLAAD Media Award and the Eisner Awards (which it has won twice), and have even crossed over with heroes from the DC Comics Universe (in Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy). The Lumberjanes have expanded to middle-grade novels at Abrams Books, a diverse array of merchandise from pins to patches, and a feature film in development at 20th Century Fox.

The Lumberjanes are at it again, making trouble and making friends, all at the same time. This time their adventurous rambles take them deep into the woods, to the hiding place of a group of magical creatures known as Pookas. The ‘Janes are delighted to meet these magical beings and make new friends. But what they don’t know is that these isolated magical creatures are actually master shapeshifters and just itching for the chance to see what human life is all about. Everything quickly goes awry as the Pookas decide to try life in the ‘Janes shoes and end up turning Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's Camp for Hardcore Lady-Types upside down. Mal, Ripley, Molly, April & Jo will have to work together, using the power of friendship, in order to reclaim their lives and teach the Pookas that sometimes your best self is your true self.

Lilah Sturges is the Eisner Award-nominated co-writer of acclaimed title Jack of Fables, as well as the writer for well-known series such as House of Mystery, Fables: The Wolf Among Us, Doctor Who, Thor, and Justice Society of America, and the upcoming The Magicians: Alice’s Story original graphic novel set in the universe of Lev Grossman’s best-selling trilogy. This will be her second original graphic novel for the beloved Lumberjanes franchise, including Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass.

“Writing the Lumberjanes has been the most fun I've ever had writing comics, and I'm really excited for The Shape of Friendship! It's such a fun, sweet story with lots of action and laughs, but also lots of feelings, too.” said writer, Lilah Sturges. “In this book, we get to focus on April and Jo's friendship, and I'm especially excited to write about those two; Jo is such an important character to me and I really want to do her justice!”

Claudia Rinofner, known as polterink, is an exciting new artist and illustrator from Austria and the artist of the first Lumberjanes original graphic novel, Lumberjanes: The Infernal Compass, with writer Lilah Sturges, released in October 2018. She is also the innovative creator of the online comic series, Crysalis.

"I'm super excited to return to the Lumberjanes universe with this great story! It's got more friendship, more shenanigans and more magical creatures, pretty much everything awesome you've come to expect from the series!" said artist, polterink.

Box imprint, home to groundbreaking original series such as Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; Smooth Criminals by Kirsten ‘Kiwi’ Smith, Kurt Lustgarten, and Leisha Riddell; Fence by C.S. Pacat and Johanna The Mad; and The Avant-Guards by Carly Usdin and Noah Hayes.

“Friendship has always been the most important element of the Lumberjanes’ stories. No matter what kind of magical, supernatural, or spooky situation they get themselves into, their enduring and heartwarming relationships are what save the day.” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Lilah and polterink do an incredible job of showing fans, young and old, that a hardcore lady-type friendship is all about finding the people with whom you can be your truest self.”

Eisner Award-nominated writer Lilah Sturges will be in attendance as a guest of BOOM! Studios at ALA Midwinter 2019 in Seattle, Washington. She will be available for signings both Saturday and Sunday, 1/26-1/28, as well as a guest on the BOOM! Sequart is proud to announce the publication of Somewhere Beyond the Heavens: Exploring Battlestar Galactica, edited by Rich Handley and Lou Tambone.Glen A. Larson’s Battlestar Galactica only lasted for a single season, yet it earned its place among the most beloved science-fiction shows of all time. In 2003, Ronald D. Moore reimagined the story. This new take proved hugely popular, revitalizing the once-niche franchise. Moore’s Galactica successfully accomplished something few reboots of classic TV shows have ever managed to do: surpassing the original in scope and longevity. Like the Cylons, Galactica had evolved.

Somewhere Beyond the Heavens: Exploring Battlestar Galactica, edited by Rich Handley and Lou Tambone, examines the entire mythos, both televised and published, from 40 different perspectives, just in time for the show’s 40th anniversary. This anthology features insightful, analytical essays about Galactica‘s history, penned by popular comic historians, novelists, bloggers, subject-matter experts, and franchise insiders, including Samuel Agro, Jim Beard, Corinna Bechko, Joseph F. Berenato, Joe Bongiorno, Jeffrey Carver, October Crifasi, Steven Czarnecki, Julian Darius, Joseph Dilworth Jr., Matthew J. Elliott, Kelli Fitzpatrick, James Frenkel, Sabrina Fried, Caroline Glucksman, Robert Greenberger, Rich Handley, Amy Imhoff, Brandon Jerwa, Robert Jeschonek, Fiona Moore, John Kenneth Muir, Alex Newborn, Peter Noble, Alan J. Porter, Tony Simmons, Paul Simpson, Robert Smith?, Alan Stevens, and Lou Tambone, with a painted cover by beloved Galactica artist Chris Scalf.

You say you want to know more about Battlestar Galactica? So say we all.
The book runs a massive 572 pages, making it the longest book in Sequart history!

Somewhere Beyond the Heavens: Exploring Battlestar Galactica is available in printand on Kindle. (Just a reminder: you don’t need a Kindle device to read Kindle-formatted books; you can download a free Kindle reader for most computers, phones, and tablets.) DARK SCIENCE-FICTION MINISERIES OUT THIS MARCH, LITTLE BIRD, EXPLORES AN ULTRA-NATIONALIST NORTH AMERICA

12/21/2018

Picture
PORTLAND, OR 12/21/2018 — Director/screenwriter Darcy Van Poelgeest boasts a long list of awards and accolades for his storytelling prowess and brings the same writing finesse to Ian Bertram’s breathtakingly detailed artwork in the gorgeous, hyper-detailed miniseries Little Birdlaunching from Image Comics this March.

“Little Bird is really just Ian and I sitting down and creating a comic we really want to read, inhabited with characters we genuinely love,” said Van Poelgeest. “It’s been an exciting and emotional journey creating this book, and I can’t wait for others to join us on that journey.”

Bertram burst onto the scene with his haunting, macabre collaboration with Peter J. Tomasi on House of Penance, the eerie, unsettling comic series about the Winchester haunted house. He brings a similarly intricate inking style to the pages of Little Bird.

With the same limitless scope as a new East of West or Saga—and the drama and surrealism of Akira--Little Bird follows a young resistance fighter in a science-fiction style reminiscent of Alejandro Jodorowsky.

In the world of Little Bird, North America has been devastated by three decades of war as the American Empire expands under an ultra-nationalist, theocratic government. But from the ashes of defeat rises Little Bird, a 12-year old girl who sets out to reignite the Canadian Resistance and discover her own identity in a world on fire.

Little Bird #1 (Diamond Code JAN190099) will be available on Wednesday, March 13. The final order cutoff deadline for comics shop retailers is Monday, Feb. 18.

The digital edition of Little Bird #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

IDW Publishing and The Coalition® Debut
New Gears of War Comic Book Miniseries in March

San Diego, CA (December 20, 2018) — Building upon the momentum of 2018’s wildly popular Gears of War: The Rise of RAAM comic book, IDW Publishing and The Coalition® are thrilled to announce the upcoming March release of Gears of War: Hivebusters #1, the first pulse-pounding chapter in a five-issue storyline.

Written by returning Rise of RAAM author Kurtis Wiebe and featuring the artwork of Alan Quah (Dark Souls, Quake Champions), Hivebusters introduces a fearless new squad, racing headlong into a conflict like none you’ve ever seen! After successfully busting a Swarm hive on the remote island of Pahanu, this suicide squad will face their most dangerous mission yet — going after the Swarm that decimated the home settlement of one of their own!

“I'm really happy to be back on this new arc for Gears of War,” says Kurtis Wiebe. “We’re taking the story back to the human side with three new characters that I’ve played a major role in developing. Even with all the blood and violence, I’m weaving a heartfelt story around our three main heroes: Mac, Lahni, and Keegan. I can’t wait for it to hit stores in 2019!”

Alan Quah says, “I am super-excited to be working on Gears of War: Hivebusters and looking forward to the next six months drawing the world of Sera and its characters. I wish to continue the high standard set by previous contributors to this franchise in the comic book medium with my art style, and hopefully you will enjoy this new entry into the Gears universe!”

“After the success of Rise of RAAM, IDW Publishing is thrilled to be working with the Coalition again on Hivebusters,” says editor Chase Marotz. “Kurtis and Alan’s work on this has been incredible, and I can’t wait to show everyone what we’re cooking up!"

“Expanding the lore of Gears through comics allows us to introduce our fans to new characters and new stories, while also reaching a new audience with our partners at IDW. Following the success of Rise of RAAM, we’re thrilled to have Kurtis return and to welcome Alan into the Gears family with Hivebusters, as their combined talents will help to craft a deeply personal and perilous adventure from an entirely new perspective. I can’t wait!” says Rod Fergusson, studio head at The Coalition.

Set on the fictional planet of Sera, the Gears of War series charts the story of humanity’s struggle against an army of monstrous, fearsome, and brutal adversaries through a captivating tale of hope, camaraderie, and survival.

Building on the success of the third-person shooter franchise that defined HD gaming, Gears of War is expanding with new and unique experiences developed specifically for console, PC and mobile devices. With The Coalition and franchise co-creator Rod Fergusson leading development, Microsoft Studios is tripling down on Gears of War with three new titles: Gears 5, Gears Pop!, and Gears Tactics.

Published by Microsoft Studios, the award-winning and billion-dollar Gears of War franchise has continued to redefine the third-person shooter genre. Launched to critical acclaim in 2006, the franchise has inspired a full line of toys and Funko collectibles, apparel and a series of graphic novels in partnership with IDW Publishing. In October 2016, Universal Studios announced that it had optioned motion picture rights to the Gears of War franchise.

KANSAS CITYISH– SASQUATCHES, FAST CARS, AND TRAILER PARKS: NASQUATCH COMING SOON FROM SBI PRESS!

12/20/2018

Picture
What’s that howling in the distance? Somewhere lurking between Arkansas and Kansas…a guttural call of a creature long thought mythical…calling out from deep within the…trailer park? Comic creators Kelly Williams and CW Cooke are pleased to chronicle the exploits of Nasquatch, a comic series to be published by Starburns Industries Press!Nasquatch is the story of Nas and Denny, two disparate souls brought together by racing, cars, and a love of the outdoors. Also, Nas is a sasquatch who is an unbelievable driver and Denny lives in a trailer park and just wants a better life.
Trevor Richardson of SBI Press said, “This book is the exact kind of fun we’re looking to have in 2019 – mashing up genres in unexpected and hilarious ways with creators we hope will keep coming back to goof off in our playground. I’ve been hunting Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest for years and these guys found him in a Camaro with an AR-KANSAS license plate.”

The idea of Nasquatch was won by Kelly Williams in an arm wrestling match against a chupacabra. Kelly decimated the 3 ft 4 inch malnourished cryptid and then approached CW to assist in telling this tale. A tale so wonderfully insane it would take 10 people to tell, but they decided to settle on doing the best they could between themselves so they didn’t have to split the money 10 ways! What about the chupacabra, you ask? Fine, he’s writing it, but we’re keeping him locked in a closet and taking all of the credit, okay?

CW Cooke, a human/bear/sasquatch hybrid who yearned to tell the tale of his brethren in comic book form, had this to say after months of fist fights, drinking, and plotting of ideas, “Nasquatch is going to be unbelievably weird and fun. It stars a sasquatch who drives a car, for crying out loud.”

“I like sasquatches,” Kelly Williams said, “and I guess comics too. You’re welcome.”

Nasquatch will be a digital-first comic book series launching in 2019, first appearing in the pages of the Starburns Presents Free Comic Book Day issue from SBI Press and going from there digitally and eventually seeing print in trade paperback format.

2018 has been a big year for the ComixTribe team, and we have our fans to thank for it.
We had our biggest graphic novel launch on Kickstarter yet, with the awesome SINK Volume 1 launch, we started building the buzz for our new series Wailing Blade which will debut in the direct market in the new year, and we began working on other new projects we're excited to share with you in the new year.
Looking ahead to 2019, we have lots more SINK coming at you, including SINK #7: Lead Balloon, which will be out in January.
We'll also be doing a two week Kickstarter launch in January for the WAILING BLADE "TAKE THE BLADE TOUR".

KICKSTARTER LAUNCHING JANUARY 15, 2019!Wailing Blade creators Joe Mulvey and Richard Douek want this series to reach as many comic fans as possible in 2019, and so we'll be doing a small launch to print more books, help fund and expand their convention and comic shop signing tour, and create some really dope collectibles and limited edition Wailing Blade merch.

Who knows, Joe and Rich may even TAKE THE BLADE to a comic shop or a convention near you!

This Kickstarter campaign is not to be missed, as Mulvey has been loading up sketches and other bonuses that will release to our fans throughout the launch.
Then, later in the year, look out for THE RED TEN: THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION, which will be our most massive hardcover collection ever produced, featuring the entire series collected for the first time, plus an after-the-credits scene not released in the single issue series. Oh, and wait to you see what we're doing with the cover... too cool!
There's a lot more coming, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.
Until then, be well, and here's to lots of great comics under your tree this year!
Best,
Tyler James
