A New Horror Rises in an Original Comic Book Series Premiering June 2017

Cover image by Jack T. Cole

Los Angeles, Calif. (March 17, 2017) - BOOM! Studios is proud to announce THE UNSOUND, an all-new original comic book series from writer Cullen Bunn (X-Men: Blue, Deadpool, The Sixth Gun) and artist Jack T. Cole. Debuting in June, The Unsound follows the journey of Ashli, a young woman caught in the middle of a strange supernatural conspiracy that reveals to her a much more terrifying version of our world than she ever imagined.

Ashli’s first day as a nurse at Saint Cascia Psychiatric Hospital turns into a nightmare as a bloody riot sends her fleeing into the bowels of the hospital. As this unsettling descent takes her to a hellish world populated by lunatics and monsters, cloaked in a secret history of black magic and heinous scientific experiments, she’s forced to ask one horrifying question: Is there such a thing as sanity?

“The Unsound is a surreal, scary story, full of chilling encounters and haunting experiences, and it delves deep into the nature of reality, perception and insanity,” says Bunn, whose The Empty Man graphic novel from BOOM! Studios will be released as a feature film from 20th Century Fox. “It's territory that I find myself drawn to frequently, and in many ways, this is a sister series to The Empty Man. Here, though, we're exploring a new landscape and developing a new horrific mythos.”
Cole adds, “As an artist, working with Cullen Bunn's creative genius for horror offers up many exciting opportunities to visually explore the genre."
The Unsound is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to ambitious original series such as Victor LaValle’s Destroyer by Victor LaValle and Dietrich Smith; Godshaper by Simon Spurrier and Jonas Goonface; Grass Kings by Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins; Klaus by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora; The Woods by James Tynion IV and Michael Dialynas; and Irredeemable by Mark Waid and Peter Krause.
“Working with Cullen on The Empty Man was one of my favorite experiences of recent years, so I jumped at the chance to help usher in his next horror classic,” said Eric Harburn, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “A cerebral, unsettling tale of an asylum on the brink of hysteria, The Unsound is also a showcase for Jack T. Cole—your new favorite artist.”

The WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD miniseries—written by Steve Niles with art by Alison Sampson and first announced at Image Expo—promises to take readers on a plot-twisting road trip filled with mystery this June.

In WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD #1, an American family traveling on vacation finds themselves stranded in a small town with a sinister secret.

“It can still make your spine tingle with fear when you're out on your own looking for help in a hellishly scary place,” said Niles. “Winnebago Graveyard is all about that kind of terror.”

This horror-adventure story about a family stuck on a road trip gone terribly awry is filled with creepy fairgrounds, nefarious characters, seedy conspiracies, towns full of satanists, and a teenager. What else could possibly go wrong?

WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD draws heavily on 1970s horror films, pulling inspiration from America's dark heart wherever possible. “It's about 70 percent Americana, slightly heightened, like True Blood, and about 30 percent ripping off of heads,” said Sampson.

WINNEBAGO GRAVEYARD #1 Cover A by Sampson (Diamond Code APR170723) and Cover B by Mingjue Helen Chen (Diamond Code APR170724) hit stores on Wednesday, June 14th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, May 22nd.

An America sundered.
An America enraged.
An America terrified.
An America shattered by greed and racism, violence and fear, nihilism and tragedy...
...and that's when everything really goes to hell.

Image Comics is pleased to announce that this June, creator Howard Chaykin (AMERICAN FLAGG!, BLACK KISS, SATELLITE SAM) will deliver THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA—a pulls-no-punches, dystopic suspense story about the dramatic downfall of the most formidable and globally far-reaching government the world has ever seen.

In THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA, a deeply troubled America is barely beginning to recover from a profound national trauma, only to be further destabilized by a worst-case terrorist attack.

"Black Kiss was banned in the UK and Canada--The Divided States of Hysteria may very well get me arrested here in the good ol' USA," Chaykin said of this raw, uncompromising vision of an all too familiar, all too near future America.

A powerful and profoundly unsettling new series echoing today's political turmoil and the restlessness of a jaded society, Chaykin’s THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA is poised to upend what readers have come to expect from comics.

THE DIVIDED STATES OF HYSTERIA #1 (Diamond Code APR170684) hits stores on Wednesday, June 7th. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is Monday, May 15th.

RENEGADE GAME STUDIOS AND ONI PRESS ANNOUNCE SCOTT PILGRIM'S PRECIOUS LITTLE CARD GAME

*Not final box art.
San Diego, CA (March 16th, 2017) — Renegade Game Studios™ and Oni Press are delighted to announce Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Card Game, an innovative deck-building game by Keith Baker. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley, fans will appreciate the detail and care taken by Baker to stay true to the heart of the series.

Being a grown-up is HARD and maybe not worth it? You might rather spend time tweaking your band’s set list until it’s guaranteed to get you that big gig opening for legit rockstars. Perhaps you’re better off dating someone a bit younger than chasing a fairytale romance with the age-appropriate girl (or boy) you met at a party. Maybe the drama constantly engulfing your pals feeds you, even if it is bringing your friends down. And don’t adults just sit at desks all day worrying about how bread makes you fat? Do adults ever even get attacked by random robot ruffians determined to pick a fight? Huh. Maybe there is something to getting it together…

Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Card Game is a deckbuilding game that challenges you to grow up and prepare for your finest hour. Players assume the roles of their favorite characters in the Scott Pilgrim universe, each of whom comes with a unique starting deck. Innovative double-sided cards let you decide whether to solve your problems with hard work and empathy, or whether to embrace the unpredictable world of gratuitous video game violence.

“Scott Pilgrim is an incredibly popular graphic novel series because it is so relatable,” says Renegade President Scott Gaeta. "Renting your first apartment, falling in love, and getting a job are things everyone's gone through. Keith Baker has done an incredible job recreating these life choices in a deck-building format while incorporating the video game style button-mashing combo moves that we loved in the graphic novel fight scenes.”

"Invite your friends! Throw a pizza party! But don't get the cards greasy," Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan O'Malley added.

Beyond the video-game-style combo moves unique to each character, fans will also appreciate the innovative double-sided cards. Players will be faced to make hard choices about whether to fight or upgrade their life with each card placed into the Plot line. Defeating the Evil Ex and collecting Power-Ups will help players inch their way towards victory.

Create your perfect life with Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Card Game in hobby stores summer 2017. This deck-building game will have an MSRP of $45, is designed for 2-6 players to enjoy in 45-60 min. per game, and will captivate gamers ages 13 and up.

CLUELESS RETURNS IN AN ALL-NEWCOMIC BOOK FROM BOOM! STUDIOSThe Next Adventure of Cher and Her Friends Debuts in Summer 2017

Picture
Los Angeles, Calif. (March 16, 2017) – BOOM! Studios is proud to announceCLUELESS is back, in an all-new comic book follow-up to the hit film inspired by Jane Austen’s novel Emma. Starring Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Paul Rudd, and Brittany Murphy, the 1995 Paramount Pictures’ film defined a generation. This August, the writing duo of actress, filmmaker, and author Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Witches of Echo Park, Death’s Daughter) and author Sarah Kuhn (Heroine Complex, Barbie), along with artist Siobhan Keenan (Adventure Time), reunite your favorite girls from Beverly Hills for a story continuing one of Entertainment Weekly’s “new classics” of film.

It’s senior year at Bronson Alcott High School, and Cher, Dionne, and Tai find themselves in a bit of an existential crisis: Where are they meant to go, and what are they meant to DO after high school? Luckily they have all year—and each other’s help—to figure it out!

“I was 17 when I auditioned for Clueless and, sadly, didn't get a part,” recalls Benson. “But I remember reading the script—tentatively titled As If—and thinking: If they do this right, they are going to kick some serious butt. So I wasn't shocked when Cluelessturned out to be a pop-culture phenomenon. All these years later, I am tickled that I finally get to be a part of its continuing legacy, and that I get to collaborate with two people I respect greatly: my co-writer Sarah Kuhn and our editor Shannon Watters.”

“Clueless is one of my favorite movies of all time—I love [director] Amy Heckerling's whip-smart use of language, her clever take on Austen, and the strong bonds she created between vibrant, awesome female characters,” added Kuhn. “And I love that Cher Horowitz is a heroine who takes on every obstacle she faces with a unique combination of ingenuity, positivity, and the ability to pull off yellow tartan like nobody else. Getting to write these characters is both a total dream come true and an incredible challenge and I hope we’re doing Cher, Dionne, and Tai justice—we’re certainly having a ton of fun.”
Clueless is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed BOOM! Box imprint, home to popular original series such as Lumberjanes by Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, Brooke A. Allen, and Noelle Stevenson; Giant Days by John Allison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin; The Backstagers by James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh;SLAM! by Pamela Ribon and Veronica Fish; and Goldie Vance by Hope Larson and Brittney Williams.
“Clueless is one of the sunniest, kindest, and smartest films out there, and one of my favorites,” says Shannon Watters, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “I’m so excited that we’ll be telling new stories within this world at BOOM! Box.”
Clueless features a cover illustrated by Natacha Bustos (Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy).

Pre-order Sky Masters of the Space Force: the Complete Dailies 1958-1961 today!Jack Kirby’s comic strip masterpiece is presented in an archival version featuring the complete dailies from Sky Masters of the Space Force.  Veteran scripters Dick and Dave Wood provided these late-1950s space/action adventure stories starring Sky Masters of the Space Force and his gang of intrepid followers which closely resemble Kirby’s work on Challengers of the Unknown (which was being published at the same time).   Kirby’s artwork is embellished by Wallace Wood and later by Marvel inker extraordinaire Dick Ayers.
Sky Masters was created at the beginning of the space race — when who would get into space and to the moon first —was a national obsession.  The strip takes place in the not to distant future where the United States sends men into space but hasn’t ventured much further yet. The series in clearly anchored in the late 1950s/early1960s so it serves as a highly stylized period piece that still holds up very nicely.  The material used in this archival edition ranges from original art, to press proofs, to tear sheets, and boasts the best reproduction of the strip ever.
Sky Masters of the Space Force: the Complete Dailies 1958-1961; Jack Kirby; Dick and Dave Wood; Wallace Wood and Dick Ayers; $49.99; ISBN 978-1-61345-129-8; hardcover with printed laminated cover; color and black and white; 272 pages; 9 x 10 landscape; matte coated stock paper; essays and documentary material.
