PETER LANDESMAN TO WRITE AND
DIRECT SCOUT COMICS “THE
RECOUNT”; KADINCREATIVE & MOTOR
CONTENT TO PRODUCE

FORT MYERS, FL (November 29th, 2021) – Peter Landesman (Concussion, Parkland, Felt) has come on board to adapt and direct Scout Comics best-selling comic series THE RECOUNT into a feature film for Don Handfield's Motor Content (The Founder, Knightfall) and Jonathan Kadin's KadinCreative (Cinderella). Nick Jones Jr. will co-write with Landesman.

The fictional political thriller penned by Jonathan Hedrick was published by Scout Comics in November of 2020 on the eve of the most contested election in modern history.  Blending the political intrigue of House of Cards and the horror of The Purge, The Recount is a realistic action-thriller set in an unsettlingly recognizable American political climate.

When the US President is assassinated by one of his own security detail, a female Secret Service agent must protect the Vice President at all costs from a conspiracy group calling themselves ‘The Masses’. With nowhere to turn and no one to trust, these two women with completely opposing political views and beliefs must work together to preserve what’s left of American democracy.

Landesman and Kadin worked together not too long ago on Sony’s CONCUSSION starring Will Smith, which Landesman wrote and directed and Kadin oversaw as the studio’s Executive Vice President. Prior to that, Landesman and Handfield worked together on political thriller KILL THE MESSENGER starring two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner for Focus Features which Landesman wrote and Handfield Executive Produced. Landesman went on to write and direct PARKLAND, about the aftermath of the assassination of JFK, the aforementioned CONCUSSION and FELT starring Liam Neeson.

“As storytellers, we’re struggling to capture not just this fraught political moment, but what it means, and will mean, for our immediate futures. When I read this graphic piece, it made me yearn for the days when character and integrity had value, and what would happen when you pack that into an imperative to survive, not just to live, but to lead. I want this movie to look like what many of us are feeling” said Peter Landesman.

Handfield added, “THE RECOUNT struck me because it really hammers home both the incredible divisiveness of our times, as well as the fragility of our democracy - all without taking a political 'side'.  On one level it's an engaging political thriller, on another, a hellbent action ride, but ultimately, it's a cautionary tale about two women with opposing political viewpoints coming together to save America. I can think of no better filmmaker to adapt this book than Peter Landesman, who has written & directed some of the best political thrillers of our time.”

“Given the current sociopolitical climate, this story couldn’t be more relevant. Sure it’s fiction, an exciting action thriller with a big idea, but it’s quite grounded and authentic. Peter Landesman is the perfect director to not only deliver on this suspenseful tale, but do so while appealing to everyone – no matter what side of the aisle they’re on,” said Kadin in a statement.

One of Scout Comics best-selling titles, THE RECOUNT was written by army veteran Jonathan Hedrick and received critical acclaim for both the jaw-dropping action and how it explored timely political themes in the vein of V for Vendetta or The Purge. The book was released in November of 2020, on the eve of the most contested election in modern history – and despite its fictional and apolitical stance -- seemed oddly clairvoyant in its dark portrayal of a nation on the brink.

Handfield, Kadin, Landesman and Scout Comics will produce through their respective banners, with Motor Content’s Jordan Moore serving as an Executive Producer.

James Haick III, President of Scout Comics said, “We were so blown away by this comic when we read it. It has all the action of 24 or White House Down, with the true-to-life political horror of The Joker. We are excited about what Peter and Nick will do with this material.

Handfield is also a partner and board member of Scout Comics, and was instrumental in bringing the series to Scout for publication and got involved early in its development.  Scout Comics is at San Diego Comic-Con booth 1518 and has a few limited edition first printing and variant covers of The Recount on sale.

THE RECOUNT features art by Gabriel Elias Ibarra Nunez (Graveland), Colors by Sunil Ghagre (Wunderwaffen) and Letters by Cristian Docolomansky (Zinnober).

AWA (Artists, Writers & Artisans) Announces That PRIMOS, An All-New Latinx Superhero Comic Series from Comedian, Actor, Writer, and Producer, Al Madrigal and Artist Carlo Barberi, Will Be Available February 2, 2022

AWA (Artists, Writers, Artisans), the creative business that develops ground-breaking original stories owned by creators across all forms of exploitation including publishing, film, television and NFTs, announced today that the All-New Latinx Superhero Comic Series, PRIMOS will debut February 2, 2022 in both Spanish and English (solicitation date: November 19, 2021).  From the mind of renowned Latinx comedian, actor, writer and producer Al Madrigal (The Daily Show, Morbius, Night School) and artist Carlo Barberi (Deadpool, X-Men: Milestones, Avengers No Road Home, Spider-Geddon), PRIMOS brings together three distant cousins, bound by their ancient spacefaring Mayan lineage to the historical King Janaab, with a profoundly special purpose: to save the world as we know it. They are the “Primos,” and they are Earth’s last hope.

“Al and I have been wanting to work on a project together for some time where we could share our Mexican heritage with a broad audience and create the ultimate Latinx heroes for the 21st Century. PRIMOS is the Latinx Guardians of the Galaxy; they squabble with each other, they assemble as a team, and ultimately save the universe,” said Axel Alonso, AWA’s Chief Creative Officer.

"The lack of Mexican representation in the superhero genre is surprising to say the least.  Everyone, including Latinos, should be able to see heroic but flawed, badass versions of themselves represented in media,” said Madrigal. “I couldn’t be happier to work on PRIMOS with three formidable Mexicans: Carlo Barberi, an incredible artist, along with my friends Felipe Flores and Axel Alonso."
PRIMOS #1 - Last Day to Pre-Order - January 10, 2022
Writer: Al Madrigal
Artist: Carlo Barberi
Release Date: February 2, 2022
Rated: Teen +
All Available Covers Will Be Revealed Soon on PreviewsWorld

The ultimate Latinx heroes for the 21st Century are here!  Centuries ago, two Mayan brothers constructed a spacecraft that sent them hurtling into outer space.  Returned to Earth only to find their culture and civilization destroyed, one of the brothers vows revenge and seeks to decimate the planet with intergalactic technology gathered on his travels.  To prevent this, his sibling creates a contingency plan that activates the world’s protectors – three descendants of their own family who have been granted great power.  Now, the fate of the universe lies in the hands of three cousins scattered throughout Central and North America who have never even met.

PRIMOS #1 will be available in both Spanish and English versions at comics shops on February 2, 2022.

APPALACHIAN HORROR TAKES WING IN ALL-NEW ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL
Discover What Goes Bump in the Night in SILK HILLS, Coming Summer 2022 from Oni Press
Portland, OR: Oni Press is pleased to announce the upcoming publication of the original horror graphic novel SILK HILLS, written by Ryan Ferrier (D4ve, Kennel Block Blues) and Brian Level (Avengers: Back to Basics, Chained to the Grave), illustrated and with colors by Kate Sherron (Chained to the Grave, The Amazing World of Gumball), and lettering by crank! (Invader ZIM, Rick and Morty). Silk Hills will be available Summer 2022.

When Beth Wills comes to Silk Hills, a small Appalachian town that's seen better days since the mines were abandoned, she expected a bit of culture shock...but not like this! Beth is someone who has a talent for finding people who don't want to be found, and when she's called to Silk Hills by a local titan of industry, she can tell that something's not right.

“Silk Hills was another chance to work with collaborators I adore and who, in turn, have faith in me when I say ‘Okay, but I wanna try something a little weird here.’ I prefer to tell dark tales in colorful ways, especially when there’s light and life to dig out from beneath burnt-black story-skin, and bless the boys for supporting such choices from the outset,” said Kate Sherron.

The town was once booming, but now the only reason people tend to come through anymore is to buy Mothman merchandise. Before long, Beth finds out just how wrong things can get in the woods, as her search for a missing troubled youth finds her running afoul of the local drug trade, too-friendly creepers, a very sinister deer, and psychoactive moth dust.

In the case of Ryan Ferrier, his goal was to push boundaries and create something that scared even himself. “Silk Hills [...], was the chance to create something that genuinely scared me; to explore the unfamiliar and unsettling; to peel back the skin, so to speak, and do something finely tuned into never-quite-center,” he commented. “I was lucky enough to do so with the two most creative and remarkable souls I know. I'm excited for readers to fall through the rabbit hole of Silk Hills so lovingly and devastatingly crafted by Brian, Kate, and me.”

Bursting with the themes of regional and cultural beliefs, and the exploration of superstitions that are often entangled over the course of generations, Silk Hills is the kind of story Brian Level has been waiting for. “Silk Hills, for me, has been a journey from its decaying streets into a dark hidden heart. Though violent and terrible, it's filled with love and levity. The push and pull of tradition and transformation is covered in a layer of blood and soil. One part mystery, one part fairy tale, and one part unflinching horror, Silk Hills is a story that unearths its own hidden heart and devours it."

Perfect for fans of Twin Peaks, The X-Files, and Sons of the Devil, Silk Hills weaves atmospheric and stylish suspense into an unsettling by quirky tapestry with elements of folklore, body horror, and themes calling back to Italian slasher films. Silk Hills will be available online and in stores on May 25, 2022.

·         In Snow Angels, Milliken and Mae have never left The Trench—it’s all they’ve ever known. They were born in The Trench, and they’ll die there, just like all their people do. The two girls, eight and eleven, are a part of The Trenchfolk, a sprawling settlement of people living inside the massive ice walls of a vast, seemingly endless frozen trench carved into the surface of an otherwise icy wasteland. The Trenchfolk survive in this hostile world by following The Three Testaments of The Trench—golden rules repeated like a mantra from birth to death…

1.     YOU MUST NEVER LEAVE THE TRENCH.
2.     THE TRENCH PROVIDES.
3.     THE TRENCH IS ENDLESS.

·         Milli and Mae don’t really know how their people came to live here. No one does, not even their wise and gentle father. On Milliken’s twelfth birthday, their father takes the two girls on an overnight skate down the trench — a coming-of-age ritual to teach them how to fish the frozen river, how to hunt the wild Trenchdogs that wander its frigid banks, and how to give proper thanks to their frozen Gods — The Colden Ones. It’s the trip of a lifetime until the girls push beyond the borders of their humble land and awaken the Trench’s deadly defender…The Snowman!

NEW YORK, NY—Z2 Comics proudly announces that one of the biggest acts in the history of heavy music will team with the rapidly growing entertainment brand for an original graphic novel to be released in 2022, in time for the anniversary of their highest selling album of all time, the indisputable classic: Screaming for Vengeance.

Teaming with writers Rantz Hoseley (Comic Book Tattoo, the Heroin Diaries) and Neil Kleid (Savor), and artist Christopher Mitten (Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.), the multi-platinum selling Metal Gods bestow upon their generations of fans their first-ever graphic novel!

500 years from now, a ring of cities orbit high above the surface of a dead world, controlled by a ruling elite that maintains power through manipulation and brutality. When a naïve engineer inadvertently threatens the status quo with his vital scientific discovery… A BLOODSTONE... he is betrayed by those he trusted and cast out to the broken planet below.  In the wreckage and desolation of a broken world where every day is a battle for survival, he must choose between accepting his new life in exile…or SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE.

“I cannot overstate what an inspiration Judas Priest has been to me, personally.” said Hoseley. “I was already a fan of the band, when Screaming for Vengeance was released, but no one was ready for the impact it had. That incredible cover art? Those songs? That album became my daily soundtrack and creative fuel, to the point where I wore the cassette out in my car. To be able to contribute to a project inspired by these songs that mean so much to me? Well, that is an honor and a responsibility I take very seriously.”

To further celebrate the creative legacy of this monumental album and landmark anniversary, the graphic novel includes an extensive interview with original cover artist Doug Johnson in which he discusses the process of creating the award-winning album cover design, and the origin of the metallic bird of prey, now known as “The Hellion." Additionally, as part of the expansion of Z2’s product offerings, newly appointed Z2 Vice President of Collectibles and Aggronautix founder Clint Weiler has designed a detailed Hellion statue, with working “electric eyes” in celebration of both the original album design, and the dramatic conclusion of the story in the SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE graphic novel"

Certified double platinum in the United States, Screaming for Vengeance was released in July of 1982, and marked the beginning of the band’s success in North America, transcending the “new wave of British heavy metal” sound they had come to define, and moving them into the mainstream despite a heavier-than-ever sound. The album’s first single “You’ve Got Another Thing Coming” would prove to be one of the biggest hard rock hits in history and continues to inspire fists in the air around the world to this day. The album was ranked #3 on Rolling Stone’s 2017 list of “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time,” and is celebrated throughout the world as one of the genre’s most defining moments, ushering in the success of heavy music in the 1980s up through today.

Judas Priest: Screaming for Vengeance will be released in both softcover and hardcover formats in finer bookstores, comic shops and record stores everywhere in July 2022, with special limited deluxe and super deluxe versions featuring an exclusive anniversary vinyl LP, prints and more available to preorder now exclusively through the Z2 website.

About Judas Priest
There are few heavy metal bands that have managed to scale the heights that Judas Priest have during their 50-year career. Their presence and influence remains at an all-time high as evidenced by 2018's 'Firepower' being the highest charting album of their career, a 2010 Grammy Award win for 'Best Metal Performance', plus being a 2006 VH1 Rock Honors recipient. Poised now to celebrate that illustrious career as they enter their 50th year in the industry - 2020 will see the band embark on an epic 50thanniversary tour in celebration. Judas Priest originally formed in 1969 in Birmingham, England (an area that many feel birthed heavy metal). Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, K.K. Downing and Ian Hill would be the nucleus of musicians (along with several different drummers over the years) that would go on to change the face of heavy metal. The current line up which changed in 2011 consists of Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, Ian Hill, Richie Faulkner and Scott Travis - Priest also received a second Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination in 2019, with 2020 serving as the 40th anniversary of ‘British Steel’ and the 30th anniversary of ‘Painkiller.’ But most importantly, 2020 is the band’s 50th anniversary and they are planning a major tour for the world to celebrate this remarkable band’s 50 YEARS OF HEAVY METAL!!

COMIC-CON MUSEUM TO LAUNCH EIGHT DECADES OF ARCHIE EXHIBIT
Comic-Con Museum Will Open Its Doors At This Year’s Comic-Con Special Edition Event Beginning Friday, November 26

Archie Comics will join Comic-Con International in launching their new Comic-Con Museum as one of the first exhibits as part of this weekend’s Comic-Con Special Edition in San Diego. “Eight Decades of Archie” will celebrate 80 years of Archie Comics and Riverdale hijinks. This world-premiere exhibition celebrates both the vast cultural legacy of Archie Comics over its 80-year span and the enduring appeal of its ever-evolving cast of typical American teenagers. Attendees will be welcomed to Riverdale through vintage comic books, original art, unique props and other exclusive memorabilia, all built to delight both the most ardent and casual Archie fans.

“It’s a joy to be able to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Archie Comics with Comic-Con International,” said Archie Comics CEO/Publisher Jon Goldwater. “The Archie Comics characters are an integral part of the global pop-culture tapestry and have inspired multiple generations of fans and readers since the early 1940s. The ‘Eight Decades of Archie’ exhibit is the perfect way to showcase Archie’s massive historical impact and the continued relevance of these characters and stories.” ’”

"It's such an honor to be working on this Eight Decades Of Archie pop-up as part of the Comic-Con Museum's inaugural season" said Patrick A. Reed, the exhibition's chief curator. "Given the longstanding relationship between Archie and Comic-Con, I can't imagine a better venue in which to tell this story – and do so in a way that engages both casual fans and long-time Archie aficionados!"

The Comic-Con Museum, which will celebrate the magic of Comic-Con year-round, is announcing its soft opening to the public on November 26 at noon. Located in San Diego's iconic Balboa Park the Museum is featuring six diverse, entertaining, educational and interactive exhibits. Special programming, screenings and a variety of special nighttime activities will be offered leading up to the summer of 2022 grand opening which will also feature the “Eight Decades of Archie” exhibit.

The soft opening of the Museum will occur while Comic-Con Special Edition – the first in-person gathering for San Diego Comic-Con fans since July 2019 – begins at the San Diego Convention Center. However, while Comic-Con Special Edition ends on Nov. 28, the Museum experience will continue throughout the year. Tickets for the Museum, available at https://museum.comic-con.org,will also be sold at the Museum; reservations are encouraged as attendance may be limited
