"Exhaustive... a must read for anyone who has ever visited the 30th century. Hell, I never knew I was this interesting!"
-- Keith Giffen

For 50 years, the Legion of Super-Heroes has occupied its own, vital corner of the DC Universe — and comics fandom. The Legion’s expansive cast, bizarre characters, futuristic setting, extended storylines, and elaborate continuity all set it apart from other super-hero comics.

This essay collection, from fans and scholars alike, is as diverse as Legion history. Essays examine significant runs (by Jim Shooter, Paul Levitz, and Keith Giffen); the Legion’s science, architecture, and fashion; the role of women, homosexuality, and race; the early Legion’s classical adaptations, teenage cruelty, and relation to the early Justice League; Lightning Lad’s death and resurrection; whether the Legion should be allowed to age; the Amethyst saga; the themes of the reboot Legion; and the so-called Threeboot’s relationship to adult adolescence and generational theory.
No Legion fan or comics scholar should go without this critical celebration of the Legion.

CAVE PICTURES PUBLISHING LAUNCHES “COMICS FOR THE SPIRITUALLY INCLINED”

October 12, 2018 Springfield, VA -- Revealing a slate of new titles during last week’s New York Comic Con, publishing venture Cave Pictures Publishing has entered the indie comics world with a new vision for modern myth-telling. Founded by entertainment executive Mark Rodgers of the cause marketing and creative production firm More Partnerships, Cave Pictures Publishing’s line of spiritually inclined comics debuts in comic shops this January.

“Since humans have always sought to make sense of their lives, hopes, dreams, and fears through stories, Cave Pictures is committed to exploring questions that cannot be answered by reason alone through narrative,” said CPP President Mandi Hart.

The new line of comics mini-series features work from some of the industry’s brightest lights, crafting top-quality and spiritually meaningful stories.
The first title, the horror comedy APPALACHIAN APOCALYPSE, launches in January from writer Billy Tucci (Shi, Heroes for Hire) and artist Ethan Nicolle(Axe Cop).
Picture
Following series launching each month thereafter include:
THE LIGHT PRINCESS, a fairy tale by writer Meredith Finch (ROSE, Catwoman) with art by Renae De Liz & Ray Dillon (The Legend of Wonder Woman).
Picture
THE BLESSED MACHINE, a sci-fi escape thriller by Jesse Hamm (Batman, Flash Gordon) and company founder Mark Rodgers with art by Hamm.
Picture
THE NO ONES, action-packed superhero drama by writer Jim Krueger(Absolute Justice, Earth X) with art by Well-Bee (Entropy).
Picture
WYLDE, a supernatural western by Daniel Bradford (Robot 13).
Picture
Cave Pictures draws its mission and vision from Plato’s allegory of the cave; that what we see with our eyes is often a shadow of greater reality. “All our stories, regardless of genre, are meant to serve as guides along the journey of human experience,” said Rodgers, CPP’s publisher.

“We are living in an age of deep questioning, deep reflection on what it means to be human and how we are to coexist in a complex and ever-shrinking world,” added Hart. “Cave contributes to this conversation by cultivating stories that engage mind, heart, and spirit and provide fodder for personal meditation as well as conversation with others.”

More information on Cave Pictures and its launch slate can be found in the press kit linked here, and more details on each series will be announced in coming months.
About Cave Pictures Publishing

A wall for modern myth-making, Cave Pictures Publishing works with high profile, award-winning artists to create spiritually resonant and universally engaging stories. Originally the vision of Publisher Mark Rodgers, Cave is helmed by attorney-filmmaker Mandi Hart and the dynamic duo of Matt Hoffman and Shahriar Fouladi from the pop-culture consulting and management company Erasmus Fox. Cave is an offshoot of More Partnerships, a consulting and production firm specializing in content and campaigns that promote social good. More produces and invests in a variety of creative projects, from film, documentaries and stage productions to books, concerts and live events. Its recent endeavors include the Global Citizen Festival, The Future of Storytelling Summit, Martin Scorcese’s masterpiece Silence, and the Bono-produced indie film Waiting for the Miracle to Come, starring Willie Nelson and Charlotte Rampling.

Picture
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 5, 2018) – BOOM! Studios today announced that the first-ever Firefly comic book letter column will launch in FIREFLY #1, arriving in comic shops on November 14th. New York Times best-selling writer Greg Pak (World War Hulk, Mech Cadet Yu) and artist Dan McDaid (Judge Dredd), along with series creator & story consultant Joss Whedon (the visionary writer/director behind Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers and more), tell the definitive story of the Unification War, the intergalactic civil war that divided friend and family alike.

Fans are encouraged to send their e-mails with their questions and thoughts about the iconic worldwide pop culture phenomenon’s return to comic books to[email protected] with a nice, shiny “okay to print” in each e-mail. Letters received by October 15th will not only have a chance to make it in the inauguralFIREFLY #1, but will also have the opportunity to suggest a name for the shiniest new letter column in all the ‘verse. The reader whose name is selected to immortalize this piece of Browncoat history will also win a full set of all eight covers to FIREFLY #1 and all the standard variant covers to FIREFLY #2-4.

Please note that all letters received after October 15th will be considered for future issues of FIREFLY.

“Firefly is a world that has endured because it has some of the most passionate fans in the world, and we want to make sure they have a chance to officially contribute to continuation of that incredible mythology,” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “We want to hear directly from you about why you’ve chosen this as your fandom, what you’re looking forward to, what your hopes are for the series, pictures of any cats or other pets named after characters (but mostly cats), etc. This is your space, and we can’t wait to hear from you!”

Created by Whedon and set 500 years in the future in the wake of a universal civil war,FIREFLY centers on the crew of Serenity, a small transport spaceship that doesn't have a planet to call home. Mal, a defeated soldier who opposed the unification of the planets by the totalitarian governed Alliance, will undertake any job — legal or not — to stay afloat and keep his crew fed. Thrust together by necessity but staying together out of loyalty, these disparate men and women are seeking adventure and the good life, but face constant challenges on the new frontier, such as avoiding capture by the Alliance, and evading the dangers you find on the fringes of the universe.

Mal thought he could outrun his past, but when a simple mission goes wrong, he’s forced to confront it in the form of the Unificators, mercenaries deputized to hunt down war criminals...and they’ve got Mal and Zoe at the top of their list! War can make villains of even the best men, and Mal’s quest for redemption will put him at odds with his own crew, forcing him to make a choice: fix the past or fight for the future.

Marla, her first son, and her husband—the unnamed narrator in the novel, who now goes by Balthazar—live in a run-down motel in a sketchy neighborhood. In the FIGHT CLUB 2 graphic novel Tyler transformed Project Mayhem into Rize or Die.
