Field Tripping #1 is available September 11th
September 9, 2019 – New York, NY – ComiXology, Amazon’s premier digital comics service announces Field Tripping an all-new, creator owned mini-series by co-writers James Asmus and Jim Festante with art by José García and letters by Ryan Ferrier. This world-spanning, all-ages 5-issue comic book series is part of the comiXology Originals line of exclusive content. The debut issue of Field Tripping is available to read on September 11th at no additional cost for members of Amazon Prime via their Prime Reading benefit, Kindle Unlimited and comiXology Unlimited, and for purchase on Kindle and comiXology.
When a flighty teacher with a mysterious bus takes her young students on field trips into parallel dimensions to illustrate different lessons, she fails to realize that it’s a horribly dangerous idea and that children break everything they touch. The machine breaks and leaves them stranded, jumping between bizarre worlds but never seemingly able to go back to their own.
Seven years in the future the surviving kids are now teenagers – wildly transformed by the worlds they’ve visited but seemingly unable to grow up and take responsibility for themselves. That is, until a surprise vendetta upends their routine and forces the kids to step up and act like adults for the first time.

“Field Tripping is a candy-coated sugar-rush of innocent kids' cartoons shoved into an adrenaline and anxiety-fueled life and death bender across everything your childhood self feared and fantasized about,” says writer James Asmus. “Space, unicorns, alternate dimensions, labyrinths, pirates, ghosts, crushes – it's a world where anything is possible and everything is terrifying. Just like actual middle school.”
Asmus and Festante have worked together in numerous mediums, including comics like The End Times of Bram & Ben, and Rick and Morty Presents Mr. Meeseeks, animation development for Stoopid Buddy and Flying Rock Entertainment, and improv performances in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

“The story involves a lot of jumping between dimensions, so it gives a lot of opportunity to see brand new worlds and explore some really wacky ideas,” says artist José García. “The art is super detailed and colorful so even if you only see just one glimpse of the world, looking at the details of the environment, the clothing and design of the characters in it, you know there's so much story behind it.”
Field Tripping is a coming of age story full of nostalgia, heartfelt moments and characters with unique personalities that readers can empathize with, including the most carefree and the grumpiest of them all. So, buckle up and get ready to head back to school!
“The book is bonkers, subversive, sci-fi comedy,” said Asmus.

LITTLE BIRD SERIES TO BE COLLECTED INTO HARDCOVER EDITION AVAILABLE THIS NOVEMBER

“Powerful.” —Salon

PORTLAND, Ore. 09/09/2019 — The bestselling, critically acclaimed miniseries by Ian Bertram (House of Penance) and Darcy Van Poelgeest--Little Bird: The Fight for Elder's Hope—will be collected, in its entirety, into a hardcover edition and available from Image Comics this November.

In the world of Little Bird: The Fight for Elder’s Hope, North America has been devastated by three decades of war as the American Empire expands under an ultra-nationalist, theocratic government. But from the ashes of defeat rises Little Bird, a 12-year old girl who sets out to reignite the Canadian Resistance and discover her own identity in a world on fire.

Bertram first burst onto the scene with his haunting, macabre collaboration with Peter J. Tomasi on House of Penance, the eerie, unsettling comic series about the Winchester haunted house. He brings a similarly intricate inking style to the pages of Little Bird.

With the same limitless scope as a new East of West or Saga—and the drama and surrealism of Akira--Little Bird follows a young resistance fighter in a science-fiction style reminiscent of Alejandro Jodorowsky and Margaret Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale.

Little Bird: The Fight for Elder’s Hope hardcover edition (ISBN 978-1534313453, Diamond Code AUG190079) collects all five issues of the miniseries and will be available in comic shops on Wednesday, November 20 and in bookstores on Tuesday, November 26. It can be pre-ordered with your local comic shop or on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.

The digital edition of Little Bird: The Fight for Elder’s Hope will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

Select praise for Little Bird:

“It. Is. Amazing.” --Patton Oswalt

“Packed with rich ideas and executed with precision and passion. It’s a comic that could be a cool movie in the future, but it succeeds because the creative team values the things that make comic books a unique form of storytelling.” --The Onion’s AV Club

“We’ll accept any excuse for more of Bertram’s horror-tinged Otomo-esque aesthetic.” --Paste Magazine

“Little Bird is nothing short of a masterpiece...once you read this thing you'll see what we mean.” --Nerdist

“Powerful and thought-provoking...clever and well-rounded and the art is lovely in a surrealistic way. I highly recommend this series.” --Impulse Gamer

“Dark, surreal, and addictive.” --Comic Book Resources

KILL KAT 6-inch ART FIGURE
BY ANDREW BELL

exclusively at Kidrobot.com

Andrew Bell has been making his food and candy illustrations and sculptures for many years now, and not even the most murderous of killer candies could stop him. And actually, his "killer candy" figures are fan favorites that are more infused with dark humor than sugar - which is exactly why we love them! Bell enjoys seeing people's reactions at Comic Cons when they see his art and their faces light up, then drop, then light up again before saying "that's terrible - I love it!"

One scroll through the various "Kill Kat" editions on his website, and you'll quickly understand why we're craving more. "Now with 5% More Bones in Every Bite!," "New! Paralyzing Flavor!," and "a fruity flavor that is more horrifying than it is healthy," are just a few of the descriptive gems you'll find.

And now, new and exclusive to Kidrobot.com, is the seasonal flavor that everyone loves to hate on - Poison Pumpkin Spice! As the fall season creeps upon us and we can already smell the cheap plastic costumes and rotting leaves of Halloween, it only makes sense that a Poison Pumpkin Spice-flavored Kill Kat would rise up and terrorize the inhabitants of its sprawling suburban landscape! Soccer moms beware! It's all in good fun though, Bell insists, adding that even he likes to enjoy a pumpkin beer or two when the season rolls around. At the end of it all, the good-humored Bell adds a serious note, saying that he also hopes his art pieces will cause people to pause and think about what food they consume, what it's made of, and what effect it has on their body and the environment.

Your First Look at Cecil Castellucci’s Graphic Novel Memoir GIRL ON FILM

The True Story of the Bestselling Comics Creator’s Artistic Journey in November 2019

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 5, 2019) – BOOM! Studios today revealed a first look at GIRL ON FILM, an original graphic novel memoir from award-winning young adult novelist and Eisner-nominated comic book writer, Cecil Castellucci, illustrated by artists Vicky Leta, Melissa Duffy, V. Gagnon, and Jon Berg, available in November 2019.

In 1977, Star Wars released in theaters nationwide and changed young Cecil Castellucci’s life forever. From that moment on, she knew that she would one day become a storyteller who brought her own imagination to life. Thus began the evolution of the young starstruck fan into an aspiring theater kid (whose high school friends were Jennifer Aniston and Chaz Bono), a teenage artiste running wild in ‘80s New York, an indie musician in the Montreal punk scene, and finally the acclaimed author and bestselling comic book writer she is today. GIRL ON FILM brings those memories to life on the page, and then asks us to examine just how time and perspective can color those memories.

GIRL ON FILM is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ ambitious Archaia imprint, home to graphic novels such as Mouse Guard by David Petersen; New World by David Jesus Vignolli; Jane by Aline Brosh McKenna and Ramón Pérez; About Betty’s Boob by Vero Cazot and Julie Rocheleau; Bolivar by Sean Rubin; and licensed series including Lev Grossman’s The Magicians: Alice’s Story by Lilah Sturges and Pius Bak; Jim Henson’s The Power of the Dark Crystal and Jim Henson’s Labyrinth: Coronation.

Print copies of GIRL ON FILM will be available for sale November 13, 2019 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), on November 19, 2019 at bookstores, or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL LA VOZ DE M.A.Y.O: TATA RAMBO EXPLORES IMPORTANT SLICE OF HISTORY, HITS SHELVES THIS NOVEMBER

9/5/2019

Picture
“A powerful and compelling graphic biography.” —PBS' Comic Culture

PORTLAND, Ore. 09/05/2019 — Image Comics/Top Cow is pleased to reveal interior pages from the forthcoming original graphic novel by writer Henry Barajas, artist J. Gonzo, letterer Bernardo Brice, and edited by Claire Napier--La Voz de M.A.Y.O.: Tata Rambo—which hits shelves this November.  La Voz de M.A.Y.O.: Tata Rambo is based on the oral history of Ramon Jaurigue, an orphan and WWII veteran who co-founded the Mexican, American, Yaqui, and Others (M.A.Y.O.) organization, which successfully lobbied the Tucson City Council to improve living and working conditions for members of the Pascua Yaqui tribe—paving the way to their federal recognition. Meanwhile, Ramon’s home life suffered as his focus was pulled from his family to the wider community, and from domesticity to the adrenaline of the campaign.

A resonant, neglected slice of American history, La Voz de M.A.Y.O.: Tata Rambo brings to life for the first time the story Barajas’ great grandfather, Ramon Jaurigue, a.k.a. Tata Rambo, and showcases his important cultural contributions.
La Voz de M.A.Y.O.: Tata Rambo (ISBN: 978-1534313637, Diamond Code SEP190069) will be available at local comic shops on Wednesday, November 13 and at bookstores on Tuesday, November 19. It can be pre-ordered at your local comic shop or on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.
Digital editions of La Voz de M.A.Y.O.: Tata Rambo will be available across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.
Early praise for La Voz de M.A.Y.O.: Tata Rambo:
“Barajas' 'Tata Rambo' shows us via his story that family is truly what gives Latinx superpower.” --Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, La Borinqueña, Ricanstruction: Reminiscing & Rebuilding Puerto Rico
“Henry Barajas’ powerful true story blends perfectly with J. Gonzo’s stunning art and electric colors making La Voz De M.A.Y.O. TATA Rambo a powerful and compelling graphic biography.” —Terence Dollard, host of PBS' Comic Culture
“In La Voz De M.A.Y.O: TATA RAMBO Gonzo’s trademark alert, vibrant and kinetic visual storytelling skills powerfully place us in Ramon’s consciousness and world.” --Frederick Luis Aldama, Latinx Superheroes, Tales From la Vida: A Latinx Comics Anthology
“Unlike Marvel superheroes fighting villains, Barajas wants this comic book series to be more about documenting Latino and Arizona history—which he feels has its own superpower.” --NPR’s KJZZ Phoenix, Arizona
“By telling his great-grandfather’s story, Barajas is shining a light on the many heroic acts that take place every day, everywhere."--Comics Beat
“Tata Rambo is a heartfelt story about heartbreaking loss. Barajas, Gonzo, Napier, and Brice give a face and a soul to history long forgotten, but not so long ago.” --Erica Schultz, Daredevil, Xena
“Barajas' writing is as meticulous and spellbinding as any work of literary journalism, given life in comics form...as someone whose relatives hail from Tucson, it's beyond gratifying to see the story of those who fought to keep that city free.” --Ryan Cady, Old Man Punisher, Infinite Dark
“The story of Tata Rambo goes beyond an individual and tells the story of a nation.” —Stephanie Sosa, PopNerd TV, Cabronas y Chingonas

September 3rd, 2019 – New York, NY – ComiXology, Amazon’s premier digital comics service introduces Breaklands, an all-new, creator owned mini-series from Justin Jordan, the co-creator and writer of The Strange Talent of Luther Strode, acclaimed artist Tyasseta, and colourist Sarah Stern, with letters by Rachel Deering. Set 150 years in the future, Breaklands features a world where everyone has powers… except for one young woman, Kasa Fain, who is desperate to find her recently kidnapped brother. This epic 5-issue comic series is part of the comiXology Originals line of exclusive content. Breaklands #1 is available to read at no additional cost on September 4th for members of Amazon Prime via their Prime Reading benefit, Kindle Unlimited and comiXology Unlimited, and for purchase on Kindle and comiXology.

150 years after humanity developed psychic powers and ended the world as we know it, a new world has emerged. Everyone has powers. Some powers, like the ability to light a match, are modest. But some powers—like the ability to reshape the world—are both vast and dangerous. Kasa Fain is different. She doesn’t possess powers. Kasa is an outsider, a teenager who has been in hiding, until the day her younger brother is kidnapped and everything changes.

“We wanted to do a book about what would happen if a lot of people suddenly got a lot of power,” said writer Justin Jordan. “It was important that the world didn't look like what readers have seen in traditional post apocalypse stories which, generally, ends up deserts and barren landscapes. Instead, the environment has had a chance to bounce back. And there’s plenty of high action, colourful new cultures, and weird creatures.”

Breaklands is the first collaboration for Justin Jordan, exciting artist Tyasseta, and colourist Sarah Stern.

“When you think of the post apocalypse, you usually don’t think of bright colours and high adventure,” said Chip Mosher, comiXology’s Head of Content. “Breaklands is a fun, fast-paced story chock full of great characters. Tyasseta’s unique style and Sarah Stern’s colours really showcase the new cultures, weird creatures and world building Jordan has dreamed up.”
