Humanoids Previews MEYER, A Fictional Biography of the Legendary Jewish Mobster

(September 19, 2019) Humanoids, the Los Angeles-based publisher of some of the world’s most iconic and groundbreaking science fiction and fantasy graphic novels, is publishing MEYER, a fictional biography of Meyer Lansky by writer Jonathan Lang (Feeding Ground) and acclaimed international artist Andrea Mutti (Rebels), featuring a cover by Shawn Martinbrough (Thief of Thieves), colors by Andre Szymanowicz and lettering by A Larger World Studios. The original graphic novel MEYER imagines the legendary Jewish mobster’s very last con job. As you might expect, there are some unforeseen complications.

In this sun-soaked noir set in Miami Beach, Meyer Lansky is dead... or at least that’s what he wants his enemies to believe. But the old man has one last job to pull off, and he can’t do it alone. Once he recruits an innocent bystander, their journey propels them headlong into an adventure filled with murder and malice, towards an ending neither could possibly have foreseen.

“The imaginary biography of famed Jewish gangster Meyer Lansky is a shambling, South Florida buddy quest where the Golden Fleece is a man’s legacy,” said writer Jonathan Lang. “MEYER puts a bullet in the head of historical fiction, leaving a pulsing body with Miami noir pumping through its veins.”

The highly anticipated graphic novel goes on sale in bookstores on September 24, 2019 and in comic shops on September 24, 2019.

Here’s what critics are saying about MEYER:

“Deftly written by Los Angeles-based author and filmmaker Jonathan Lang (Feeding Ground) ...This is a 120-page, darkly comedic coming-of-age quest stuffed full of hardcore Breaking Bad-style imagery amid a fictional biography of the legendary Jewish mobster Meyer Lansky as he attempts to organize his very last caper.”—SYFY WIRE

“A different kind of gangster tale… Meyer is both funny and thoughtful, a story about aging, self-fulfillment, friendship, and legacies.”—AiPT Comics

“A thrilling, funny, and touching alternate history…. As gangsters so often become figures of folktale, Lang and Mutti’s romp takes inspiration from the Maxwell Scott quote, ‘When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.’”— PUBLISHERS WEEKLY

A Bold New Tale of a Masked Activist Available from comiXology Originals

The Black Ghost #1 is available September 18th

September 16, 2019 – New York, NY – ComiXology, Amazon’s premier digital comics service, announced The Black Ghost – an all-new, creator-owned five-issue mini-series by co-writers Alex Segura and Monica Gallagher, with art by George Kambadais, colors by Ellie Wright, and lettering by Taylor Esposito, and is edited by Greg Lockard. The Black Ghost #1 features cover art by Greg Smallwood, with subsequent covers by fan-favorite artists Bill Sienkiewicz, Francesco Francavilla, Veronica Fish. The bold tale of a masked activist fighting for the soul of their city, The Black Ghost #1 is part of the comiXology Originals line of exclusive content and will debut September 18th. It will be available to read at no additional cost for Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, and comiXology Unlimited members, and also available for purchase on Kindle and comiXology.

Lara Dominguez is a journalist chasing that one, big story. After a stint in the Middle East, the alcoholic reporter moves from her hometown of Miami to Creighton – a mid-Atlantic city that’s seen better days. She needs a huge, viral scoop that’ll send her into the journalistic stratosphere. Her target? Uncovering the identity of The Black Ghost – a masked vigilante trying to take down the wealthy oligarchs carving up the fading metropolis. But as she searches for the breakthrough story she desperately needs, Lara will have to navigate the corruption of her adopted city, the uncertainties of virtue, and her own personal demons.

The Black Ghost is co-written by novelist Alex Segura (best known for his Pete Fernandez Miami mystery series) and Monica Gallagher – the same team who co-created and co-wrote the first season of the acclaimed crime podcast Lethal Lit, which The New York Times named as one of the Five Best Podcasts of 2018.

“The Black Ghost is a grounded, emotional story about one woman’s quest to surpass her flaws and become the hero she’s always known she can be,” says Segura. “George Kambadais’ art style drives the fast-paced story forward. His line work is so clean it almost seems like animation, highly contrasting the gritty atmosphere and evoking an unexpected vibe.”

"The Black Ghost is all about what happens when you're given an amazing opportunity to do good, even if you're not quite ready for it,” says Gallagher. “This was an important mindset that Alex and I were both eager to explore through Lara. By setting her demons against a pulpy, noir backdrop – which George's beautiful artwork is perfect for – we're able to contrast her personal messiness with the larger, sleeker crime world that engulfs her."

The Black Ghost is already generating accolades from some of the biggest names in comics:

“Black Ghost is a wonderful comic. Inventive and fresh and full of mystery and mood.”
–Jeff Lemire, writer of Black Hammer, and Descender

“The Black Ghost is the modern pulp hero story I didn’t know I couldn’t live without. Smart writing, engaging characters and drawn with real charisma, it manages to be both sweetly nostalgic and completely energizing to the beloved pulp tradition that is its inspiration. I can’t wait for more.”
–Gail Simone, writer of Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Secret Six, and Clean Room

“Seriously compelling, with a lead you can’t help but root for. Read this.”
–Mark Waid, best-selling author of Kingdom Come, Daredevil, and Archie

"The Black Ghost promises an amalgam of genres that takes on the realities and challenges of our world today. This fusion takes the thrills and suspense of masked caped crusades and blends in the mysteries of contemporary investigative journalism to tell a story that's both exciting and current."
–Kelly Sue DeConnick, writer of Bitch Planet, Pretty Deadly, Aquaman and Captain Marvel

"The Black Ghost is a great twist on classic pulpy superhero noir. Segura, Gallagher, and Kambadais have created a cast of characters and a world you're going to want to come back to."
–James Tynion IV, writer of Batwoman, Detective Comics, and The Woods

“The Black Ghost comes with a hell of a first issue hook—the beginnings of a terrific mystery
full of potential."
–Kelly Thompson, writer of Hawkeye, Uncanny X-Men, and Jessica Jones

A modern take on the urban vigilante story, The Black Ghost #1 debuts on September 18th from comiXology Originals.

Limited Edition Santa Muerte 8-inch Dunny Art Figures by Stephanie Buscema

 Dropped at Kidrobot.com

Santa Muerte is a deity with many names. “Our Lady of Holy Death,” “Lady of Night,” “Lady of Shadows,” and “The Bony Lady” are just a few. She’s a highly revered deity in Mexico with millions of followers despite being condemned by the Catholic Church as “satanic” and misaligned with church teachings. Nevertheless, she persists.

The origins of Santa Muerte have been a topic of intense debate but despite her recent surge in popularity, the Bony Lady has been around for centuries – usually wearing a robe and usually holding a scythe. Most believe her existence to be the result of pre-Columbian Mesoamerican religion melding with colonial Spanish culture. Or more specifically, the combining of the Aztec goddess of death, Mictecacihuatl and the traditional Grim Reaper figure that Catholic missionaries had regarded as the embodiment of death.
In modern times, Santa Muerte is worshipped as a figure of protection and her representations are rich with symbolism. The scythe, for example, is often interpreted as a tool which cuts off negative energies or influences. Or, as a harvesting tool, might also symbolize hope and prosperity. It typically has a long handle, indicating that it can reach anywhere.

Our new Santa Muerte 8" Dunny was designed by New York-based artist Stephanie Buscema who has a knack for the macabre as evidenced by her playfully dark illustrations and paintings and also her Halloween-centric textile work that she produces for her company Kitschy Witch Designs.

When we asked Buscema why, out of all goddesses, she wanted to create an interpretation of “Santa Muerte,” she replied simply “Because it’s Santa Muerte.” Fair enough. But to learn more about Buscema - her influences, art, and approach, check out the Kidrobot blog.

About the Editions:
The Santa Muerte 8-inch Dunny Art Figures by Stephanie Buscema come in two editions – red and black, each having their own symbolism attached.

Red -  A Santa Muerte figure clad in red typically represents all matters of the heart – love, lust, passion, and relationships.

Black – Typically a Santa Muerte figure in a black cloak may be worshipped in order to gain her protection or to remove curses, negativity.

Whether it’s protection or matters of the heart you’re interested in, you can snag your own Bony Lady at Kidrobot.com

Both Black Bag covers will ship on October 23, 2019, the same day as the regular MONEY SHOT #1 covers. The special covers contained within the black polybag will be a surprise not be revealed until the day of release.

The Black Bag covers can be ordered using the following Diamond Order Codes:
Mirka Andolfo (Cover C): JUL198907
Tim Seeley (Cover D): JUL198907

MONEY SHOT is set in the near future, where space travel is ludicrously expensive and largely ignored. Enter Christine Ocampos, inventor of the Star Shot teleportation device. Her big idea: She'll travel to new worlds, engage-intimately-with local aliens, and film her exploits for a jaded earth populace trying to find something new on the internet. Now, Chris and her merry band of scientist-cum-pornstars explore the universe, each other, and the complexities of sex in MONEY SHOT! A story about scientists having sex with aliens for the glory of mankind-and money.

MONEY SHOT is written by Tim Seeley, co-scripted by Sarah Beattie, drawn by Rebekah Isaacs, colored by Kurt Michael Russell, lettered by Crank!, and designed by Tim Daniel.

MONEY SHOT #1 hits store shelves on October 23, 2019.

"The Making Of A Farewell To Kings is a must have for any Rush fan. Like the music of the band themselves it’s done with the greatest quality, attention to detail and humour. A great graphic novel and fun read!"–Eddie Trunk

LOS ANGELES, CA—Fantoons, the LA-based publisher releases the highly anticipated official RUSH graphic novel chronicling the making of the band’s classic album A Farewell to Kings; the first in their ongoing relationship with the famous rock n’ roll power trio.

The legendary Canadian band is one of the most influential rock bands in modern history, with more than 40 million records sold worldwide, with nods to fandom throughout pop culture, including such films as I Love You Man, and the popular television show Billions.

Fantoons creative director and founder, David Calcano says “The response we are getting from fans on the book is overwhelming! After years of working on this graphic novel, it is humbling to hear the wonderful feedback from fans everywhere in the world.”

This epic, fully authorised graphic novel chronicles the birth of RUSH’s classic album A Farewell to Kings. Relive the production trials and triumphs alongside Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neil Peart as they create the masterpiece of progressive rock that gave birth to such tracks as “Closer to the Heart,” and the majestic “Xanadu”. The book is co-written by Fantoons’ David Calcano and Lindsay Lee, and features artwork by Juan Riera and Ittai Manero. The story was written with input from RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson and album producer Terry Brown, who also penned the foreword.

Previous releases through the partnership between the band and publisher have included 2015’s RUSHToons by Fantoons Vol. 2112, and Where’s Geddy, Alex and Neil Vol. 1. In July of 2019, Fantoons will release a unique, fully authorized coloring book, with 70 evocative illustrations packed with gorgeous RUSH artwork and references from Moving Pictures to Clockwork Angels.
The Making of Farewell to Kings: The Graphic Novel is available now through the official RushBackstage, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Indigo Chapters booksellers, and released in finer comic shops and independent bookstores everywhere in a beautiful 144 page hardcover today!
