"Big Girls is next-level science fiction energy from one of the great powerhouses of American comics." --Warren Ellis

PORTLAND, Ore. 05/22/2020 — Critically acclaimed artist Jason Howard (Trees) takes full creative control as the writer and artist of the forthcoming action series Big Girls. This new ongoing comic book series will launch from Image Comics in August.

When men become giant monsters hellbent on destroying the world, only girls can stop them—Big Girls. Meet Ember—she writes poetry, loves to read, and she’s a 300-foot-tall full-time monster killer! She and the other big girls are all that stand in the way of our world’s complete annihilation!

In an exclusive scoop on the Big Girls announcement with The Hollywood Reporter, Howard said of the series: “[this is] the perfect comic for both the dynamic sci-fi I like to draw and for my writer side to examine questions of power, inequality and the complexity of growing up."

Featuring the fast-paced action—similar to such films as John Wick and series like Paper Girls—and the bigger than life characters of Godzilla and Pacific Rim, this series is set to be a Summer hit readers won’t want to miss.
Big Girls #1 (Diamond Code JUN200012) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, August 12.

Big Girls #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

BOOM! Studios Unveils Stunning New Variant Cover To The“Must Read”
Original Series from BOOM! Studios in June 2020

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 21, 2020) – BOOM! Studios today revealed a first look at variant cover art by acclaimed artists Dan Mora (Once & Future) and Peach Momoko (Batman: The Adventures Continue) for WYND #1, kicking off an all new original series by the award-winning superstars James Tynion IV (Something is Killing the Children, Batman) and artist Michael Dialynas (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), with letterer Aditya Bidikar (Isola). Tynion IV and Dialynas previously collaborated for three years on the GLAAD Award winning series The Woods.

WYND #1 introduces readers to a world where magical heritage is punishable by death, so a young boy named Wynd must keep his true identity – and pointy ears – a secret from everyone in Pipetown, even if it means he’ll never have the normal life he wants. But when his secret is threatened, Wynd is forced to leave his home behind to embark on a dangerous quest that will put him at the heart of a royal conspiracy beyond his imagination.

This is the first original series from BOOM! Studios to be announced and solicited outside of the traditional solicitation cycle, which normally involves soliciting product three months in advance to retailers and fans. Though WYND was originally announced as an original graphic novel from the BOOM! Box imprint for a November 2020 release, the company saw a unique opportunity to deliver fans and retailers a new Must Read series at a crucial time in the comics industry.

WYND #1 also features a main cover illustrated by series artist Michael Dialynas.

WYND is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora; Something is Killing the Children by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera; Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Folklords by Matt Kindt and Matt Smith; The Red Mother by Jeremy Haun and Danny Luckert; King of Nowhere by W. Maxwell Prince and Tyler Jenkins; and Alienated by Simon Spurrier and Chris Wildoose. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid; Buffy the Vampire Slayer from Jordie Bellaire and David López; Angel from Bryan Edward Hill and Gleb Melnikov; and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott and Daniele Di Nicuolo.

Print copies of WYND #1 will be available for sale on June 17, 2020 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and Madefire.

MULTIPLE AWARD WINNING CREATIVE TEAM ED BRUBAKER & SEAN PHILLIPS ARM FANS WITH DOUBLE THE GRAPHIC NOVEL HARDCOVERS—PULP AND CRUEL SUMMER—OUT THIS SUMMER FROM IMAGE COMICS

5/21/2020

Picture
PORTLAND, Ore. 05/21/2020 — The multiple Eisner Award winning creative powerhouse behind such hits as My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies and Bad Weekend—Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips—are back with twice the content in the forthcoming original graphic novel tale of ’30s era crime--Pulp—and the upcoming Criminal collected edition Cruel Summer. Both graphic novel hardcovers will be available from Image Comics this Summer, in July and August respectively.

A darkly mysterious meditation on a life of violence, Pulp is unlike anything the award-winning team of Brubaker and Phillips have ever done. A celebration of pulp fiction, set in a world on the brink. It follows Max Winters, a pulp writer in 1930s New York, who finds himself drawn into a story not unlike the tales he churns out at 5 cents a word—tales of a wild west outlaw dispensing justice with a six-gun. But will Max be able to do the same, when pursued by bank robbers, Nazi spies, and enemies from his past? Find out in this must-have thriller from one of comics’ most acclaimed creative teams, perfect for fans of The Fade Out and Criminal.

Similar to the recent hit collected hardcover edition, Bad Weekend, the upcoming Cruel Summer hardcover will collect a complete story installment from the ongoing Criminal series and incorporate bonus behind-the-scenes content. Set in the summer of '88, Cruel Summer follows Teeg Lawless, a man who comes home to plan the biggest heist of his career. But Teeg's son Ricky and his friends are starting down the same dark path their fathers are on, and this is about to become the worst summer of their lives.
Pulp hardcover edition (ISBN: 978-1-5343-1644-7) will be available on Wednesday, July 29 and in bookstores on Tuesday, August 4. It can be pre-ordered at your local comic book shop or independent bookstore, or on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.

DC Announces DCeased: Hope at World’s End Tom Taylor’s Epic Becomes the Newest Addition to DC’s DIGITAL FIRST Catalog!

5/19/2020

Picture
In the Earth’s darkest hour, heroes will bring hope!
DCeased, 2019’s blockbuster series, makes its DC DIGITAL FIRST debut with new original stories set before the fall of Earth! Fan-favorite Injustice: Gods Among Us writer Tom Taylor’s epic DCeased story line continues on May 19 with DCeased: Hope at World’s End with art by Dustin Nguyen, Renato Guedes, Carmine Di Giandomenico and Marco Failla! Set in the span of DCeased #5’s time jump, DCeased: Hope at World’s End will expand the story of the Anti-Life War, featuring Superman and Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter, Stephanie Brown, Wally West, Jimmy Olsen, and more.

“There was a point in DCeased where we had to make the decision to skip weeks of losses and triumphs and heroism or our first miniseries wouldn't exactly be a miniseries,” said Taylor. “But we knew we had a larger story to tell, so we seeded plots we could expand on and deliberately left huge characters off the table for the future. That future is here.”

This new DC DIGITAL FIRST series, in addition to DCeased and DCeased: Unkillables, will pave the way to the launch of DCeased’s sequel, DCeased: Dead Planet, in June 2020. By adding DCeased: Hope at World’s End to DC’s robust digital publishing program, comic book readers will have even more variety of content and immediate access to stories that have never been available on digital platforms.

In DCeased: Hope at World’s End, the Anti-Life Equation has infected over a billion people on Earth. Heroes and villains have fallen. In the immediate aftermath of the destruction of Metropolis, Superman and Wonder Woman spearhead an effort to stem the tide of infection, preserve and protect survivors, and plan for what’s next. In the Earth’s darkest hour heroes will bring hope! The war for Earth has only just begun!

“With Hope at World's End, we finally get to tell the tale of what Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Black Adam, Wink, the Aerie, Martian Manhunter, Black Manta, Steph Brown, Robin, Superboy and more did to save as much of humanity as they could,” continued Taylor. “And Super Sons fans won't want to miss the apocalyptic adventures of Damian and Jon as they stand up to the worst crisis the Earth has ever seen, and take their first steps on the road to becoming the next World's Finest.”

DCeased: Hope at World’s End, written by Tom Taylor with art by Dustin Nguyen, Renato Guedes, Carmine Di Giandomenico and Marco Failla, will publish digitally twice a month through its fourteen-chapter run beginning Tuesday May 19, 2020. Cover art will be by Ben Oliver, Francesco Mattina and Yasmine Putri.
DC’s comics are available on participating digital platforms seven days a week, including ReadDC.com, Comixology, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, DC UNIVERSE and more.

VISIONARY DIRECTOR DUNCAN JONES AND EISNER DARLING ALEX DE CAMPI INTRODUCE MADI: ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE FUTURE

The Third Chapter in the Celebrated ‘MOON Trilogy’ Launches Exclusively on Kickstarter in Partnership with Z2 Comics

NEW YORK, NY–Z2’s fall lineup continues to be revealed throughout the month, with some of the publisher’s most anticipated projects yet to be announced this week! Today, exclusively through the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform, the publisher launches a partnership to bring the third chapter of the Duncan Jones directed saga he began with MOON to a new life in comics! This unique project pairs Jones with some of the biggest names in comics, as assembled by the multiple-Eisner nominated writer/editor, Alex de Campi.

“I think the first proper graphic novel I ever read cover to cover was the stunning Rise and Fall of the Trigan Empire that I found among my dad’s books” says creator Duncan Fegredo.” It was written by Mike Butterworth, but it was the art by Don Lawrence that captured my imagination and left me with an unquenchable desire to one day make a graphic novel as transporting as that.  It was immersive.  World building on a planetary scale.  What MADI would hope to achieve with its road-trip depiction of a near future Earth.  Yeah, I make movies, but I write, and I worked in video games too.  I enjoy the discipline of carefully planned story telling.

“Duncan and I love interacting with our fanbase and have a very DIY mentality so the idea of going directly to fans is super appealing and feels very natural. I love Kickstarter; I’ve run two previous successful campaigns on the platform and backed a ton of campaigns over the years” says Alex de Campi. “With Z2 backing us up it’s made the process so much easier and we’re delighted they were so enthusiastic about our funny hybrid approach to publishing. I truly believe the Kickstarter audience is special and it’s a thrill to bring them MADI, which is such a gorgeous book drawn by an absolute murderer’s row of comics talent. Of course the book will later be out in stores, but you can only get it first on Kickstarter.”

Jones continues “Working with multi-time Eisner nominated comic creator Alex De Campi has been such a blessing. She is smart, experienced and patient enough to deal with my occasional mad-capperies. We are a solid, complimentary team, but our story telling was always going to live and die on the artists we could attract to the project. Frankly, I dare you to name a single book that has the arsenal of talent we bring to the tale; Dylan Teague, Duncan Fegredo, Glenn Fabry, Pia Guerra, Simon Bisley, Anie Wu, Rufus… and more, each huge names in their own right... Its friggin insane. And with a partner like Z2, who will make sure the book is finished with the same care the insides were given, we we are about to deliver something we hope will be as formative on readers as The Trigan Empire was on me.”

MADI is a 260-page road trip graphic novel set in the future, by film director Duncan Jones (MOON, Source Code) and writer Alex de Campi (Bad Karma, Blade Runner), and drawn by some of comics’ most exciting artists including Glenn Fabry, Simon Bisley, Duncan Fegredo and Pia Guerra.

Madi Preston, a veteran of Britain’s elite special operations J-Squad unit, is burnt out and up to her eyeballs in debt. She and the rest of her team have retired from the military but are now trapped having to pay to service and maintain the technology put into them during their years of service.   They're working for British conglomerate Liberty Inc as mercenaries, selling their unique ability to be remote controlled by specialists while in the field, and the debts are only growing as they get injured completing missions. We meet Madi as she decides she’s had enough.  She will take an off-the-books job that should earn her enough to pay out her and her sister, but when the piece of tech she’s supposed to steal turns out to be a kid, and she suddenly blacks out... she finds herself on the run from everyone she’s ever known.

In a globe-spanning adventure from Shanghai to Soho, Madi has to stay one step ahead of the giant corporations closing in on her from all sides…

“We at Z2 have been fans of both Alex and Duncan’s for years, and were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with them on such a prestigious project” says publisher Josh Frankel. “While most people associate us with music-affiliated books these days, our goal is to publish the highest quality comic book storytelling, and there is no better example of that than MADI. The names assembled to work on this reads like a list of the creators any publisher dreams to work with.”

MADI will be published by Z2 Comics in November of 2020, and is available for preorder exclusively through Kickstarter, with a host of special rewards for those who get in early, including special day one pricing for the standard and hardcover editions. For more information, please visit the Kickstarter page.

The full cast of creatives is as follows: Dylan Teague, Glenn Fabry, Duncan Fegredo, LRNZ, Ed Ocaña, André Araújo, Simon Bisley, Rosemary Valero-O’Connell, Tonci Zonjic, Pia Guerra, James Stokoe, RM Guéra, Chris Weston,  Rufus Dayglo, Annie Wu, David Lopez and Christian Ward. Our amazing colour team includes Matt Wilson, Nayoung Kim, Chris O’Halloran, Adam Brown, Jake Phillips, Raúl Arnaiz, Giulia Brusco, Sergey Nazarov and Kelly Fitzpatrick. Lettering is by Alex.
