CENTRALIA: EPICENTER presents six prose horror stories, six writers, six new supernatural investigators, and six towns that share the name of Centralia. This is the first book in a planned shared universe series that will bring this group of heroes together to face an apocalyptic force of evil.

Evil has a network beneath Earth’s surface and its name is CENTRALIA.

On Halloween, six writers come together to explore supernatural mystery and horror in six towns that share the name Centralia.

The United States is home to twelve towns of varying sizes called Centralia, where thousands of people live, never realizing that supernatural forces are aligning against them. Strange events have occurred in one Centralia or another since the 1800’s, but these events are growing more intense with every passing day. A powerful, malevolent force prepares to unleash its evil upon the world through Centralia gateways located in New York, Missouri, West Virginia, Kansas, Texas, and Washington.

CENTRALIA: EPICENTER presents six prose stories, six unique supernatural mysteries, six fictionalized versions of Centralia towns, and six unlikely heroes standing against burgeoning darkness. In these tales, readers will meet a necromancer who carries a secret the Lords of the Dead will kill to protect, an ex-special forces combat magician, a clockwork robot detective, a professor of occult studies who refuses to stand idly by when evil rears its ugly head, a blind psychic who sees through her grandmother's eyes, and a martial artist with an affinity for cryptids.

Six writers have joined forces to bring these tales to life. Brian Keene is the author of more than fifty books, mostly in the horror, crime, and fantasy genres; His work includes THE RISING, DARK HOLLOW, GHOUL, and DEAD SEA. Michael Patrick Hicks is the author of horror titles including THE RESURRECTIONISTS, BROKEN SHELLS, and MASS HYSTERIA. Adam Cesare is the author of books such as CLOWN IN A CORNFIELD and VIDEO NIGHT. Brian Quinn is one of the stars of TruTV’s IMPRACTICAL JOKERS and the co-creator of the graphic novel METRO. Cullen Bunn is the writer of comic books such as THE SIXTH GUN, HARROW COUNTY, BONE PARISH, and THE EMPTY MAN. Heath Amodio is the founders of Hustle & Heart Films and Executive Producer on their first three film and television projects.

CENTRALIA: EPICENTER is the first in a series of shared world anthologies. Each volume will present new tales of horror, mystery, and suspense. The characters introduced in this volume will interact and partner up in future adventures—all leading to the ultimate confrontation with the supernatural evil growing under the surface of our world.

The book will be available on October 31 for Kindle and in print through Amazon.

When disgraced engineer Evan Calhoun finds an apparently murdered Giga, his society and the fascistic tech-centered religious order that controls it are rapidly thrown into chaos.

From writer Alex Paknadel (Friendo, Empyre: Celestial Messiah) and rising star John Lê comes another Vault & White Noise partnership about what happens after the mechs stop fighting.

The Kickstarted Graphic Novel Adapting True Tales of Deployment Will Premier in Comic Shops on November 25; Available For Direct Order Now!

NEW YORK, NY–Z2’s diverse 20/21 publishing slate continues to be revealed with projects from today’s biggest names in entertainment. Today, the publisher announces that that the ambitious project pairing members of the US military with the biggest names in comics to share real war stories told by those who lived them will be available for Local Comic Shop Day. This unique project, assembled by the multiple-Eisner nominated writer/editor, Alex de Campi and co-edited by Iraq War veteran Khai Kumbaar is an entertaining and moving work of graphic nonfiction previously only available through Kickstarter.

“TRUE WAR STORIES is incredibly important to me personally, and I’m so proud of the absolutely top-tier work my collaborators have done in these stories” says Alex de Campi. “What makes it really perfect for Local. Comic Shop Day is that not only is it great for hardcore comics fans, but also such an easy book to hand-sell to casual browsers. TRUE WAR STORIES is perfect for the military veteran or “dad who loves nonfiction” or the friend who doesn’t really read many comics. And a big, chunky self-contained 250-page reads that look really nice gift-wrapped for the holidays, just saying.”

Khai Kumbaar continues "To me, TRUE WAR STORIES is a book about making connections. There's the obvious connection between civilians who get an inside look at real military life and the connection between servicemembers who see themselves reflected in the stories, but there's also a connection to the medium of comics itself. I think TWS (and books like it) can be an invitation to those who maybe thought comics weren't for people like them. We saw a bunch of non-traditional comics readers back our Kickstarter. It'll be fun to see what happens when they wander into their friendly local comic shops looking for more."

Vietcong sappers attack a fuel point, only to be foiled by an unusual alert guard dog. An MP guards convoys of mystery bombs in the Thai jungle in 1968. A young Airman copes with post-9/11 paranoia in Okinawa. A Marine sniper in Haiti faces the repercussions of the shot he never took. A team of SEALs help rescue a kidnapped girl in the Philippines. Army interpreters in Iraq battle their toughest foe: the rats of Saddam’s palace. A soldier on a late-night run surprises a motorpool saboteur. A young cavalry lieutenant, fresh off the Battle of Kamdesh, meets the Marine half-brother he’s never known. A Navy ship reacts to an unexpected man overboard. And if you’ve ever wondered what Christmas was like in a war zone, you’re about to find out.

Artists include Peter Krause, Ryan Howe, Skylar Patridge (drawing her own father's Vietnam story), Eoin Marron, Tish Doolin (a former Army medic), Dave Acosta, A. D'Amico, Drew Moss, Josh Hood, PJ Holden, Chris Peterson, Sam Hart, Jeff McComsey, and Paul Williams. Colors are by Dee Cunniffe, Matt Soffe, Kelly Fitzpatrick, Tarsis Cruz, and Aladdin Collar. All lettering is done by de Campi herself.

True War Stories is a 260-page full color graphic novel anthology containing fifteen true tales of American service members overseas. Nearly every branch of the military is represented in this collection of stories that are heartwarming, heroic, harrowing, and even at times, hilarious, spanning the globe.

Z2 is the first publisher to announce their offering for this year’s event, and will make these available exclusively for stores to order directly from the publisher under the following terms:

  • Direct orders to be packed and shipped by Z2’s fulfillment center at a 50% discount. Retailers may order any of Z2’s existing backlist titles at this same discount at the time of their order.

  • Retailers will be responsible for shipping costs to and from their stores, which will be billed upon receipt of saleable goods back from stores.

True War Stories will be published by Z2 Comics in conjunction with Local Comic Shop Day, with all profits from this $19.99 retail release  donated to military-related charities chosen by our contributors as personally meaningful to them: Objective Zero Foundation, Air Force Assistance Fund, the USO, Armed Services Arts Partnership, and Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

SAVAGE DRAGON #254-256 COVERS WILL FEATURE RETRO STYLE VARIANTS

10/21/2020

Picture
PORTLAND, Ore. 10/21/2020 — Image Comics partner and CFO Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon series will feature three 70s style retro variants for the upcoming issues #254-256 hitting shelves in November, December, and January respectively.

“When I was growing up—this is what comic books looked like. A few years back I did a long run on Savage Dragon with the ‘70s style trade dress and it really felt like I was making real comics at last,” said Larsen. “I’ve always loved that aesthetic. I like the balance of the banner and the circle. It just looks like comics to me. But then—I like the standard Image trade dress as well, so the thought was—why not both? Why not give readers a choice? So, yeah—it’s somewhat self-indulgent but when you can do comics your own way you can do that sort of thing.”

In Savage Dragon #254, Malcolm Dragon is overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the newly assembled and fully operational Vicious Circle, and a dark cloud falls over the city of Toronto. Meanwhile, Paul Dragon tries to put together the pieces of his shattered past. Comes with our highest possible recommendation.
Savage Dragon #254 Cover A by Larsen (Diamond Code SEP200222) and Savage Dragon #254 Cover B retro 70s trade dress (Diamond Code SEP208500) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, November 18.

Savage Dragon #255 Cover A by Larsen (Diamond Code OCT200219) and Savage Dragon #255 Cover B retro 70s trade dress (Diamond Code SEP208501) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, December 16.

Savage Dragon #256 Cover A by Larsen (Diamond Code NOV200164) and Savage Dragon #256 Cover B retro 70s trade dress (Diamond Code SEP208502) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, January 13.

Savage Dragon is also available for purchase across many digital platforms, including Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.

Punchline & the Vaude-Villains is launching directly to readers through Kickstarter (Oct 13-Nov 12).

Hero Tomorrow Comics (Tap Dance Killer and Apama The Undiscovered Animal) has traditionally distributed through Diamond Comics. Additionally, an equally large portion of our business model came from sales at comic conventions. With the convention industry shut down I had to make the difficult decision to halt all new releases and wait for shows to re-open.

And we waited... and waited...

It's time for a new path.
While I look very forward to continuing our relationship with Diamond Comics and our beloved retailers, Punchline & the Vaude-Villains is launching directly to readers through Kickstarter (Oct 13-Nov 12). We've had terrific success with the platform for our previous trade collections, but this is the first time we're launching a single issue series through it.
The character Punchline debuted in Tap Dance Killer #1 back in April of 2018. He was an instant fan favorite, and I have long promised a battle between him and the main superhero in our universe, Apama. Punchline was originally conceived as a villain for the Apama series before getting snapped up by TDK.

I speak with my peers in the indie comics field daily, and it's hard to find a sector that has been hit harder by the shutdowns than ours. I hope whether you support our book or someone else's, you spend some time on that Kickstarter convention floor. There's hundreds of talented creators waiting to give you a solid pitch and a great deal.
Thanks for supporting indie comics in all flavors. I look forward to seeing everyone again on those physical convention show floors that we love and miss so dearly.

Stay safe, and healthy :)

Ted Sikora, President Hero Tomorrow Comics

Synopsis:
Drayton Hayes was a heavyweight boxer when his career was abruptly sabotaged. He was kidnapped by a bizarre troupe of scoundrels calling themselves the Vaude-Villains. The mysterious mobster troupe convinced Drayton to join them, and he underwent a transformation which turned him into a super-powered murderous clown named Punchline!
Punchline is about to meet the main superhero of the Hero Tomorrow Comics universe, Apama, for the ultimate throwdown. Then he'll be introduced to a new nemesis from beyond the grave in a match for his very soul.

Eisner Nom Takes the Stage with Phobos on Macroverse

New “TapStory” Format Breaks the Mold, Giving Cinematic Respect to the Comics Medium

Oct. 9, 2020, (EUGENE, OR) — Macroverse is proud to announce the release Phobos,
the beautiful atmospheric tale of horror and nostalgia from 2019 Best Web Comic Eisner-nominated creator,
Jason Brubaker (reMIND, Sithrah)! Think ambience and vast gray landscapes of PlayDead’s Inside or Limbo, with the lighthearted humor of The Addams Family.   Knocked unconscious 700 years ago,
the vampire Phobos is stuck at the bottom of his toxic mote in mid-transformation between bat and human. Upon waking, Phobos learns his castle has been taken over by a mad scientist and a patchwork Frankenstein, along with a mysterious but beautiful new assistant, Eninac, who nurses him back to health. Once they learn who Phobos really is and the power he possesses, they wish they never saved him in the first place.

Macroverse stands apart from other digital comics platforms not only because of its highly curated comics, but also its TapStory format. TapStory holds steadfast to comics as an art form, not constrained by a physical page or endless scroll, by creating a more “cinematic experience” as a key part of the storytelling. This format is the first of its kind, a true re-imagining of the comics medium that’s sure to capture the imagination of the next generation of comics creators and readers alike.

“As a long time fan of Hayao Miyazaki, I was instantly drawn to Jason's work on Sithra and reMIND, and Phobos is the next evolution of his storytelling,” said Macroverse Co-Founder, Adam Martin. “We have always felt that Macroverse provides an almost cinematic experience for readers, so getting to bring Jason's incredible art and characters onto the platform again for this brand new story is incredibly rewarding.”

“Jason Brubaker has been (and continues to be) one of my favorite creators. His art and storytelling employs masterful use of genre and tone,” said Macroverse Co-Founder, Eben Matthews. “Our collaboration on reMIND was recognized with an Eisner Nomination, and now, working together on Phobos, we've expanded that partnership where we are crafting the Macroverse series while he's drawing it, creating a seamless experience on the app which is really exciting to see as such fantastic work comes to life.”

“I have been looking for a digital home for
Phobos for the last five years, but was never satisfied with any reading experience online until Macroverse showed up! Phobos and I are proud to call Macroverse our new digital home,” said Jason Brubaker. “In my experience flipping a book’s page has always been the most enjoyable reading experience. I've hosted webcomics and used infinite canvases, but with Macroverse, reading a comic still has that ‘page turn’ feel but with even more dimension. You're almost able to see between the panels now. It's one step closer to an actual movie without sacrificing the comic reading experience.”
