In 2016 Vinny Malave decided to start The Cryptic Closet, an apparel company that encompasses his love for all things horror. Now he runs the company with his brother, Moses Gibson, and it has become a staple of horror convention scene. Vinny and Julio Guerra have been friends for a while and about two years ago started kicking around the idea of doing a comic. In 2018 Julio, along with his friend Ben Miller, they formed Guerrilla Publishing, an indie comic company that cares about making enjoyable books above all else. The marriage of the two companies made the timing perfect to launch Tales of The Cryptic Closet. The book is an homage to the Creepy, Tales from the Crypt, and EC comics of the past. It contains six stories with ten creators involved. We have creators from fashion, film, and comics involved. Some of our creators have worked for Marvel, Aftershock, Devil's Due, Alterna, and Archaia.

The First Order Strikes in IDW Publishing’s Ongoing Star Wars Comic Book Series for Middle Grade Readers SAN DIEGO, CA (July 16, 2019) – IDW Publishing proudly announces that October’s Star Wars Adventures #27 will debut a three-part storyline telling an untold chapter set between The Last Jedi and the thrilling conclusion to the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker! Issue #27 will debut a three-part monthly storyline by writer John Barber and artist Derek Charm, featuring the mighty Wookiees. With the New Republic devastated, the First Order launches an attack on the planet Kashyyyk, and Chewbacca takes up arms to defend his people! “It's a thrill and an honor to get to tell this story with the amazing Derek Charm,” says Barber. “Chewie's one of my favorite characters ever, for as long as I can remember. Having the opportunity to tell his story to a new generation of Star Wars fans – and all this leading up to the conclusion to the Skywalker saga — is one of the biggest thrills of my career.” Charm says, “I’ve been lucky enough to work within a lot of Star Wars eras in this series, but doing something in the current, post-Last Jedilandscape is really exciting. The fact that it focuses on Chewbacca and what he’s been up to between these movies is more so.” A backup tale by writer Michael Moreci and artist Tony Fleecs will see a team-up between the beloved droids of the Star Wars series – R2-D2, C-3PO, and BB-8 – as they embark on a desperate recruiting campaign for the Resistance. “What I love so much about this story is that it gives the droids a mission that's specific to who they are as characters and not just droids,” says Moreci. “This is a fun, fun adventure, but I also think it's important to these characters as they, like everyone else, find their way in the galaxy.” Fleecs says, “I probably don't love anything more than I love Star Wars – and in particular, the 1985 Droids cartoon and the accompanying comic book featuring art by the great John Romita Sr. That's the energy I'm bringing to this project – vibes from 1985, Star Comics, John Romita, Nelvana Animation, and Marie Severin, with a healthy dollop of Tony Fleecs thrown in for good measure.” Star Wars Adventures #27 will feature regular covers by Derek Charm and Tony Fleecs, with a special retailer incentive variant available by Manuel Bracchi. For information on how to secure copies of Star Wars Adventures, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you. About IDW

Comic Book Adaptation Visualizes the Dreams and Nightmarish Realities of #1 New York Times Bestselling NovelSAN DIEGO, CA (July 16, 2019) – IDW Publishing is proud to announce the early 2020 launch of Sleeping Beauties, a captivating comic book series based on the bestselling novel by Stephen King and Owen King. Author Rio Youers (The Forgotten Girl) and artist Alison Sampson (Winnebago Graveyard) will adapt the rich narrative of Sleeping Beauties to a ten-issue limited series under the watchful gaze of Stephen and Owen. “We are so excited about Rio and Alison’s vision for Sleeping Beauties,” says Owen King. “We’ve been fans of Rio’s for years and Alison’s artwork is simply extraordinary. IDW couldn’t have found a better pairing.” To which co-author Stephen King adds, “We’re looking forward to seeing our work in this exciting format.” Sleeping Beauties explores a world where women have sunken into a deep, cocooned slumber, their dreams taking them to an idyllic other place. They can only wake if disturbed, which results in violent, feral behavior. Meanwhile, the men have inherited the Earth, their society devolving into barbarism. Provocative and absorbing, Sleeping Beauties is a gripping dark fantasy of gender dynamics, individuality, and toxic masculinity. “To work on anything with the King name attached is surreal, dizzying, and somewhat terrifying,” says Youers. “As soon as my feet touch terra firma, I will focus on my goal: to stay true to the novel’s spirit, and to deliver a page-turning, visually impacting experience that will appeal to readers of both Stephen and Owen King’s fiction, and to comics fans the world over.” “I'm thrilled to be able to work on Sleeping Beauties,” says Sampson. “The story is very suggestive for interesting art, with magical themes interwoven through a very real place setting in Appalachia, and the opportunity to draw some truly diverse people. Places, spaces, gender, bodies, character, relationships, political themes, emotions, a challenging (and almost certainly innovative) design job, and a great story – it’s all here. I cannot wait to share what we are making.” “There was something magical about the combination of Stephen King’s and Owen King’s specific skills on the pages of the Sleeping Beauties novel, an alchemy that resulted in a story so of the moment and yet so timeless,” says IDW President & Publisher, Chris Ryall. “Rio and Allison are fashioning a graphic retelling that synthesizes that same sense of wonder while very much making the comic its own thing entirely. We’re ecstatic to be doing this with all involved.” For information on how to secure copies of Sleeping Beauties, please contact your local comic shop or visit www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you. Megg & Mogg reach new highs—and lows
Simon Hanselmann’s previous three Megg & Mogg books—2014’s Megahex, 2016’s Megg & Mogg in Amsterdam, and 2017’s One More Year—have all been international best sellers that have cemented Hanselmann as one of the most exciting graphic novelists of his generation. Bad Gateway is the magnum opus that those three books have been building towards, as Megg and Mogg’s fraught relationship careens into psychological depths that Hanselmann has previously only hinted at. Perpetually drunk and high, lovable degenerates Megg and Mogg have drifted through a life full of raucous antics and free of consequences. But their heavy drug use, once a gateway to adventure, has begun to take a grim psychological toll. As her unstable lifestyle finally catches up to her, Megg must turn to her past to uncover the roots of her self-destructive habits that have led her down this dark path. We are excited to welcome Simon Hanselmann to Floating World on Thursday August 1st, for an art exhibit and book signing for Bad Gateway. WHO: Simon Hanselmann WHAT: Bad Gateway art exhibit and book release party WHEN: Thursday August 1, 7-9pm WHERE: Floating World Comics, 400 NW Couch St. “In a surprising turn, Hanselmann’s trademark raunchy dark humor is only rarely on display in this collection, making room instead for a stark, unblinking gaze into the heart of self-harm, mental illness, and addiction.” — Publishers Weekly “Astoundingly well-crafted and punishingly heartfelt.” — Vulture “Hanselmann is one of the most gifted cartoonists alive.” — The A.V. Club “These are simultaneously some of the meanest and most tender comics you will ever read.” — Seattle Weekly Simon Hanselmann was born in 1981 in Launceston, Tasmania. His New York Times best-selling Megg & Mogg series has been translated into thirteen languages, nominated for multiple Ignatz and Eisner awards, and won “Best Series” at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2018. He currently lives in Seattle, WA, with his wife and a rotating cast of small animals. SDCC 2019: BOB BURDEN Changes Direction With Supernatural Crime Thriller ‘HITMAN FOR THE DEAD’7/15/2019 MILWAUKIE, Ore., (July 12, 2019)-- “You know how people say ‘Someone should do something about that’?...Well, I’m that someone,” says Anthony Harken, the wandering assassin in Burden’s new series. After losing his soul in a card game, a wayward, young Anthony Harken takes up with a crew of vagabond serial killers roaming America, administering one of the last surviving rituals of the Spanish Inquisition: avenging the wrongfully slain, and freeing their souls to pass on and find peace. He is the Hitman For The Dead! Hitman For The Dead is a radically different new series, not only for writer and artist, Bob Burden (Flaming Carrot, MysteryMen), but as a new departure for the comic world. “Comics are about heroes and villains. My protagonist is a more ordinary person – and more complex, with character flaws and occasional flashes of exceptional endeavor. He is thrown into a grim fate by his own poor life choices but mans up, without getting bitter or whiney about it.” An all text, limited “beta” version of the first Hitman For The Dead episode, has been printed in time for SAN DIEGO COMIC CON and will be for sale in a vintage paperback format at the Dark Horse Comics booth. On the inception of the supernatural detective story, Bob Burden had this to say: “This paperback project started out as a strategy to promote the new 400-page Flaming Carrot Omnibus that we have coming out in September from Dark Horse. Unlike Flaming Carrot, people instantly get what Hitman For The Dead is about, and I feel it has a very viral potential. Doing a text story was an experiment as was the path I took with the story’s tone. I wanted to change directions, blow out the pipes so to speak, and do a down-and-dirty hardcore thriller/horror/detective thing that would diverge from my humor stuff. “I wrote it quick. I had a completed comic book script from a few years back – a good, solid story – but could I turn that script into a novel in the few weeks I had left in June and have it ready for SDCC? I had to go for it. Originally called Silence Of Night, Hitman For The Dead was an idea that I had been kicking around for a while. Will it work as collateral promotion for the now obscure and seemingly forgotten Flaming Carrot and get FC on people’s radar screens? It’s an experiment, and we’ll see how it goes.” Stop by the Dark Horse Comics booth at SDCC 2019 (#2615) to pick up a limited copy of the convention exclusive Hitman For The Dead paperback novella for $10 and get it signed by Bob Burden during his signing. For those fans who won’t make it to SDCC this year, (and for reviewers) Bob Burden will temporarily host a digital version of the book on www.hitmanforthedead.com where it can be downloaded for free. Studios today announced SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS, an all-new original graphic novel in partnership with Peanuts Worldwide, that launches the world’s most beloved beagle on his grandest adventure yet! From Flying Ace to Astronaut in Space, Snoopy embarks on an exploratory mission to Mars in this original graphic novel written by Jason Cooper, illustrated by Robert Pope and coloured by Hannah White, and available in stores December 2019. NASA has shared a proud association with Charles M. Schulz and his American icon Snoopy since Apollo missions began in the 1960s. In May 1969, Apollo 10 astronauts travelled to the Moon with the aid of a lunar module named Snoopy and a command module named Charlie Brown. That was also the year of the first Silver Snoopy Award — given by NASA astronauts to employees and contractors for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success. Fifty years after their first collaboration, Peanuts Worldwide and NASA entered into a multiyear Space Act Agreement in 2018, engineered to inspire a passion for space exploration and STEM education among students. In SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS, Snoopy, the world-famous astronaut, heads to the stars in his most out-of-this-world adventure yet! What mysteries does the red planet hold? Will he find water? Will he find life? Will he find the time to get in a quick nine holes? Snoopy grabs his golf clubs and blasts off for Mars in this original graphic novel from the world of Charles M. Schulz and Peanuts! “Sharing a love of STEM and space exploration through the beloved Astronaut Snoopy is a great honor for us.” said Craig Herman, Senior Director, Category Management, Peanuts Worldwide. “Charles Schulz inspired generations through his comic strip and characters, and I hope this graphic novel will spark the imagination of many future scientists and space travelers.” Charles M. Schulz once described himself as “born to draw comic strips.” Born in Minneapolis, at just two days old, an uncle nicknamed him “Sparky” after the horse Spark Plug from the Barney Google comic strip, and throughout his youth, he and his father shared a Sunday morning ritual reading the funnies. After serving in the Army during World War II, Schulz’s first big break came in 1947 when he sold a cartoon feature called Li’l Folks to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. In 1950, Schulz met with United Feature Syndicate, and on October 2nd of that year, PEANUTS, named by the syndicate, debuted in seven newspapers. Charles Schulz died in Santa Rosa, California, in February 2000 — just hours before his last original strip was to appear in the Sunday papers. Jason Cooper is head writer at Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates where he has written storybooks, comic books, and graphic novels for PEANUTS. He relates to Charlie Brown much more than a person should. Cartoonist and animator Robert W. Pope has the greatest of fun drawing the PEANUTS gang for BOOM! Studios. Over the years he’s also drawn the adventures of the Looney Tunes gang, Scooby-Doo, the Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, and many more for DC, IDW, Disney Publishing and more. Hannah White is a colorist and artist for Charles M. Schulz Creative Associates; a 2016 graduate of SCAD Savannah, Hannah enjoys her two cats, making comics, and playing video games. "All systems are go in a Snoopy adventure unlike anything you've ever read before, introducing everyone's favorite beagle to the wonders of outer space as he journeys to Mars." said Chris Rosa, Editor, BOOM! Studios. "The Schulz Studio team has crafted a wonderfully fun and humorous tale so whether you're a kid or just a kid at heart, this is the kind of story that reminds you why Peanuts has such an unparalleled place in pop culture." SNOOPY: A BEAGLE OF MARS is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning KaBOOM! imprint, home to comics for middle grade and younger readers including licensed series such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Regular Show, Ben 10, and Over The Garden Wall, along with original series like Just Beyond: The Scare School by R.L. In this all-new, five-part miniseries from Dark Horse Comics, Sir Edward Grey, occult adviser to the queen, takes on London’s most famous serial killer: Jack the Ripper. “It’s been long-established that Sir Edward Grey was involved in some capacity in the investigation into the Ripper killings in 1888, and that shortly afterward he left government service for good,” said Roberson. “But we’ve never known just what Sir Edward discovered during his investigation, or who was behind the Ripper murders in the world of Hellboy, or what happened that caused the royal Witchfinder to having a falling-out with Queen Victoria…until now, at least. In the pages of WITCHFINDER: REIGN OF DARKNESS, we’ll be exploring all of those questions, and more, as Sir Edward’s investigation into a string of grisly murders leads him in directions he couldn’t have guessed, encountering new enemies and new allies along the way.” In WITCHFINDER: REIGN OF DARKNESS, Sir Edward Grey is the only one who thinks Jack the Ripper’s murders have an occult purpose. When Scotland Yard turns its back on him, Grey finds an ally in American occult adventurer Sara Jewell. But the forces aligned against their investigation are more powerful than either one of them imagines. The series is illustrated by acclaimed Mignolaverse artist Christopher Mitten. “It’s not hard to have a blast illustrating a Witchfinder story for the first time, particularly since in this story Sir Edward is dealing with the notorious Ripper murders and resulting fallout,” said Mitten. “It's an interesting time to be wandering around inside this world, playing with the styles and the architecture, the mood of time and place as seen through the Mignolaverse lens. We revisit some wonderful set pieces from Victorian London, while finding a few new ones. The terrific characters are just the icing on the cake.” WITCHFINDER: REIGN OF DARKNESS will debut on November 27, 2019.
