Special NINE INCH NAILS Kickstarter Bonus Edition!

5/15/2018

Hey all!
This is a "bonus edition" of my monthly newsletter, so I'm going to keep it quick: The new NINE INCH NAILS comic anthology that features a story written by me and illustrated by Marianna Pescosta and Alessandro de Fornasari is now live on Kickstarter, as is the second volume of TOUCHING EVIL by Dan Dougherty, which features a Stretch Goal bonus story written by me and illustrated by Seth Damoose! Details and links are below!

NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW: More Stories Inspired by the Songs of Nine Inch NailsHere's the Cliff Notes: NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW: More Stories Inspired by the Songs of Nine Inch Nails features a new story titled "Help Me I Am in Hell"written by me and illustrated by Marianna and Alessandro -- and it's not only the darkest and heaviest (no pun intended) story I've done to date, but there's also a Variant Edition of the book featuring a cover illustrated by Marianna and based on our story... and if I may be so bold, this is the one you'll want to get, as it's going to be super-limited edition. ;)

Furthermore, if you pledge now you can get the Marianna Pescosta VariantHardcover Edition of the anthology at the "Early Bird" prince of only $35!

IMPORTANT: If you want to get the variant cover that is based on our story, make sure you pledge at the "Marianna Pescosta Variant" level. Here's the link: http://bit.ly/NIN-Mari-Variant

Now, if you want more details -- on both this book and Touching Evil Volume 2 -- read on, friends!
Why you will want to pledge for this book now...
Marianna Pescosta Variant Cover! So much blood... heh.

Several years ago I contributed a story to the first NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW: Stories Inspired by the Songs of Nine Inch Nails. The book is now completely sold-out and goes on Amazon for between $70 to over $1,000 depending on the week.

Yes... seriously.
I'm even long sold-out of copies of the book myself, and there's some covers of the first volume that you simply can't get your hands on anymore... and I suspect this cover is going to become the same way shortly after the end of the campaign and the books are delivered.

I've talked to the publisher and there is NOT going to be an excessive amount of copies of our cover available, and I cannot promise I'll have any copies to sell on the road after the Kickstarter backers all get theirs... so if you want one -- especially without having a pay A LOT more for it -- pledge now to get one, lest you not be able to get one later.

Seriously, folks... I'm not one to hard sell anything, but if you (r someone you know) will want one, I'm just giving you all fair warning that there's a good chance you may not be able to get one -- and DEFINITELY not for only $35 -- after the campaign ends.

So how does this Kickstarter thing work, anyway?

Picture
Page One of "Help Me I Am in Hell"

Here's the skinny on Kicskstarter: Think of it like an online pre-order website (like Amazon -- and yes, just as safe) that allows creators (in this case, me) to "treat" those of you who pre-order the book before the campaign ends -- in this case, in about 30 days.

Also, Kickstarter is a TOTALLY safe website which is used by creators all over the world to generate the funds/sales necessary to offer their most dedicated friends/readers/fans advance -- and oftentimes deluxe -- copies of their work.
How safe is safe?

I've backed 181projects (and counting) on Kickstarter and never had a safety concern.
Take that as you will.

If you want to get a copy of the the Marianna Pescosta Variant Cover of Nothing Can Stop Me Now: More Stories Inspired by the Songs of Nine Inch Nails" just click HERE to go to the campaign page and click on the tier level that you want. (If you've never used Kickstarter before, you may have to create an account, but it's simple -- and free -- to do.)
This last part is important, so I'm going to put in all caps and bold and italics:

YOUR PLEDGE WILL NOT BE COLLECTED UNLESS THE BOOK IS FULLY FUNDED... AND EVEN THEN IT WILL NOT BE COLLECTED UNTIL AFTER THE END OF THE CAMPAIGN.

My point? Pledge to get the Marianna Pescosta Variant Cover now while it's still cheaper via the "Early Bird" special while it's still available, friends!

Picture
Want to make it a daily double? Dan Dougherty's TOUCHING EVIL Volume 2 is now on Kickstarter, too!

TOUCHING EVIL is genuinely one of my favorite comics currently being published... and one of the Stretch Goals is a TE story written by me and illustrated by Seth Damoose! Let's unlock it, friends!

My dear friend, colleague, karaoke partner in crime, and brother-from-another-mother Dan Doughertyjust launched the Kickstarter campaign for TOUCHING EVIL Volume 2: "The Phantom Limb.

Those of you who backed my TALES OF MR. RHEE Volume 3campaign were treated to a TALES OF MR. RHEE/TOUCHING EVIL crossover comic written by me and drawn by Dan, and now you have a chance to get caught-up on the whole TOUCHING EVILseries to date!

For the uninitiated, TOUCHING EVIL is about a woman who inherits a curse that causes anyone she touches who is "evil" to die. What makes a person evil? And where do the souls of her victims go? To say anything more would be to spoil the story of what's one of my favorite comic series currently being published, and I can't recommend backing this series enough.

The link to the campaign is HERE, and Dan's offering a number of great pledge levels and Stretch Goals (including one where I'll write an original TOUCHING EVILstory illustrated by Seth Damoose (TALES OF MR. RHEE, NIGHTMARE WORLD, SAVANTS).

Check it out, everyone! It's great stuff and I really want to see this book get funded with several stretch goals unlocked too!

Eisner Award-Nominated Matt Kindt & Tyler Jenkins Announce BLACK BADGE

Discover The Action & Espionage From BOOM! Studios in August 2018

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 8, 2018) – BOOM! Studios is proud to announce BLACK BADGE #1, beginning a new monthly series reuniting Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins, the Eisner Award-nominated dream team behind Grass Kings, in August 2018. Meet the Black Badges, a top-secret, elite branch of boy scouts tasked by the government to take on covert missions that no adult ever could.

Among their organization, the Black Badges are the elite; the best of the best. The missions they take are dangerous, and they will only get worse as their leader’s attention is split between their mission and tracking down a lost team member. A member who disappeared years ago, presumed dead.

BLACK BADGE is a haunting look at foreign policy, culture wars and isolationism through the lens of kids who know they must fix the world that adults have broken. The debut issue features a main cover by Matt Kindt, along with variants by Tyler Jenkins and the Eisner Award-nominated Jeff Lemire (Black Hammer).

“I'm super excited to be teaming with Tyler and Hilary on a new project after the amazing run we had on Grass Kings,” said Matt Kindt. “BLACK BADGE is an idea I'd had for a long time -- ‘Boy Scouts -- but for real.’ Sending them on real scouting missions and into danger. It's an idea that started out as a joke with me complaining about how the scouts never really scout. But now that I'm writing the series -- I'm realizing the deeper and (sometimes) horrible consequences of sending these kids out on missions. It's going to be funny, emotional, and horrific -- sometimes all on one page."

“Well, truthfully, I can’t even find words to express my happiness at working with Matt again,” said Tyler Jenkins. “And this new series, BLACK BADGE, is another vehicle for us to tackle subjects and ideas that mean something to us. After the unrelenting darkness of Grass Kings, I am very excited to explore a completely different world...a world with a tad more levity. This is going to be an adventure. A wild adventure. But it’s gonna get real, so hang on!”

BLACK BADGE is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to a world-class group of licensed comic book series and ambitious original series, including Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Planet of the Apes, Abbott, Victor LaValle’s Destroyer, Mech Cadet Yu, Grass Kings, and Klaus.

“With Grass Kings, Matt and Tyler established themselves as one of the preeminent creative teams in comics, completely in sync on every page. And with BLACK BADGE, they’re taking things to an entirely new level,” said Eric Harburn, Senior Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Exploring the chaos and conflict of the modern world through the lens of these young operatives, this new series is provocative, engaging, and jaw-droppingly illustrated.”

Print copies of BLACK BADGE will be available for sale in August 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

Valiant is proud to announce X-O MANOWAR COMPENDIUM ONE – a MASSIVE, 800+ PAGE COLLECTION of the chart-topping, award-winning series that relaunched the Valiant Universe, released for the very first time in a value-priced softcover format!

On August 22nd, go back to where the war began with this first, gigantic volume in a value-priced paperback series that collects the complete adventures of Valiant's armored Visigoth, starting with the first two years of Aric of Dacia’s journey from barbarian prince to superpowered protector in X-O MANOWAR (2012) #1–29, UNITY (2013) #1–4, and ARMOR HUNTERS #1–4!

Beginning with award-winning and critically beloved runs by New York Times best-selling writers Robert Venditti (Green Lantern, The Flash) and Matt Kindt (UNITY, Grass Kings), and featuring incredible art by Eisner Award winner Cary Nord (Conan, Star Wars), Doug Braithwaite (BLOODSHOT U.S.A.), Lee Garbett (Lucifer), Diego Bernard (NINJAK), Trevor Hairsine (DIVINITY), and more, a celebrated, star-studded cast of Valiant’s biggest talents comes together right here for one of the best-selling and longest-running superhero series of the modern era!

Born under the oppressive thumb of the Roman Empire, Aric of Dacia learned warfare at an early age. It was amid such violence that he was abducted by an alien race known as The Vine. Forced into slavery, he survived where others perished. His escape would come from bonding with a weapon of immeasurable power: the X-O Manowar armor. With it, he returned to Earth…only to find himself stranded in the modern day. The Vine destroyed Aric’s world. Now he will give them war.

As Aric of Dacia makes his long-awaited voyage back to Earth within the pages of Matt Kindt’s best-selling 2017 series, discover why the first two years of X-O Manowar’s unrelenting return to comic store shelves everywhere has been hailed by fans and critics alike as a vibrant and vital introduction to the Valiant Universe:

“A stunning debut… [and] a great start for a hero: sacrifice, discovery, vengeance.” – The A.V. Club

On August 22nd, get the powerful opening salvos of X-O MANOWAR (2012), UNITY, and ARMOR HUNTERS in one oversized collection!

But first: the blockbuster creative team behind Valiant’s visionary sci-fi epic DIVINITY take the helm for an ALL-NEW ARC and FEROCIOUS NEW JUMPING-ON POINT in X-O MANOWAR (2017) #15! On May 23rd, master storytellers Matt Kindt (HARBINGER WARS 2) and Trevor Hairsine (ETERNITY) reunite to reveal a battle-scarred mission from Aric of Dacia’s youth… prepare to witness the landmark episode that forged the heir to the Visigoth nation into the world-smashing, interstellar champion now known as X-O Manowar!

As HARBINGER WARS 2 besieges the Valiant Universe – and X-O Manowar along with it – Aric of Dacia cannot escape the flames that now threaten his future…or the shadows that cloud his past. Before space… Before the armor… Return to the apex of Visigoth conquest as a younger, brasher Aric and a sword-wielding grifter set off on a continent-spanning quest for fortune, glory, and power! From the bloodstained sands of the gladiatorial arena to the dunes of the Arabian Desert, meet the man who would become the warrior-king of an alien civilization – and our own world’s most powerful hero – as he sets out to seize his destiny once upon a time in a land of faraway kings and unrepentant conquerors!

Discover The Magic Behind The Medicine a BOOM! Studios in December 2018

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 1, 2018) – BOOM! Studios is proud to announce HEX VET, an all-new hardcover original graphic novel from cartoonist Sam Davies (Stutterhug). In a world where magic is a part of daily life, Nan and Clarion are determined to be the best veterinarian witches of all time. Between life, animals, and magic, these two witches will soon realize that they have a lot to learn—and not just about how to help a ghost cat have kittens. This story will take Nan and Clarion on fun adventures where they will get to learn more about each other, their strengths as veterinarians, and their equal passion for magical animals. Hopefully they’ll be up to the challenge of running a clinic, saving lives, and staying on their boss’ good side!

“HEX VET is centered around a magical veterinary practice which means I get to draw as many strange animals I can think of AND include a lot of witchy nonsense,” said Sam Davies. “I'm in heaven. Unusual pets are a running theme in my webcomics work, so it’s exciting to expand that into a full story with characters who are totally unprepared to deal with all the creature troubles I'm going to throw at them.”

HEX VET is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ critically acclaimed KaBOOM! imprint, publisher of world-class licensed series such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Over the Garden Wall, Peanuts, and Rugrats along with original series like Ruinworld by Derek Laufman, Brave Chef Brianna by Sam Sykes and Selina Espiritu and The Deep by Tom Taylor and James Brouwer.

“HEX VET is the perfect comic for anyone who’s wondered where witches take their cats when they snag a tooth or who takes care of a magical girl’s familiar,” said Whitney Leopard, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Sam brings an incredible amount of heart, compassion and thrills to the story of what it means to truly care for the life surrounding us, especially when there’s magical surprises around every corner!”

Print copies of HEX VET will be available for sale in December 2018 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one), bookstores or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers, including comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.
