IDW Publishing’s New Comic Book Miniseries
Explores Spock’s Past with Michael Burnham

SAN DIEGO, CA (April 22, 2019) – Following the shocking events of the Season Two finale, the thrills of CBS’s wildly popular Star Trek: Discovery continue in a new three-issue comic book miniseries from IDW Publishing, Star Trek: Discovery – Aftermath!

This riveting new comic book, under license by CBS Consumer Products, reunites co-writers Kirsten Beyer, Mike Johnson, and artist Tony Shasteen (who previously worked together on 2018’s Star Trek: Discovery – The Light of Kahless) for a storyline focused prominently on Spock. In the aftermath of the 2019 finale, everything in Discovery has changed, and as L’Rell and Pike try to negotiate a fragile peace, Spock finds himself grappling with the fallout from what happened with Michael Burnham – and the mysteries about her still left to unravel.

“The new series shows how Pike, Spock, L’Rell, and the rest of the cast deal with the fallout from the mind-blowing events of Season Two,” says Johnson. “And we couldn’t be happier that Tony Shasteen is beaming back onboard for this story!”

“To be able to follow up on the huge status-quo shift presented in that finale is a dream come true, especially with a team as talented as Kirsten, Mike, and Tony,” says editor Chase Marotz. “In terms of fitting into the broader universe presented in Discovery, this new series is perhaps our most essential yet, and I can't wait for everybody to see what we've got in store for them.”

This epic, fully authorized graphic novel chronicles the birth of RUSH’s classic album A Farewell to Kings. Discover Your First Look At The Cover And Story For The Hottest New Launch Of The Year!

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 20, 2019) – BOOM! Studios in partnership with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products today revealed cover art and story details for ANGEL #1, written by Bryan Hill (Detective Comics, Killmonger) with art from Gleb Melnikov  (Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers), along with visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Marvel’s The Avengers), available in stores May 29, 2019.

Meet Angel – a vampire cursed with a soul who has spent centuries protecting humanity from the monsters that lurk in the dark in an attempt to redeem himself for the crimes committed by the monster he was when he was first turned. But now, when the trail of the most recent demonic uprising takes him to Sunnydale, he realizes that the restoration of his humanity can only come if he takes one more life: a certain Slayer from Sunnydale who he’s never met…but may now be his greatest enemy. The brooding, dark vampire with a soul has just left the city of lights after marking another death on the never-ending list of debts he owes against his soul. Is he ready for one last sacrifice if it brings his long sought after peace?

ANGEL #1 features a main cover by artist Dan Panosian (Slots, Batman: Arkham Knight) and a monster-themed variant cover by illustrator Scott Buoncristiano (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) depicting the terrifying Der Kindestod, from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer season two episode “Killed By Death.”

Created by visionary writer and director Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers film franchise), Angel premiered on the WB Network on October 5th, 1999 and was a spin-off from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The series ran for five seasons from 1999-2004, starring David Boreanaz as “Angel,” the tortured vampire destined to walk the earth with a soul who moved to LA to set up shop as a supernatural private investigator. Despite Angel’s best efforts to deal with the sins of his past all by himself, Angel Investigations soon became home to other lost souls searching for redemption and willing to fight by his side.

“We got our first taste of Angel in yesterday’s game-changing BUFFY #4 and surprise release of ANGEL #0, but that’s only the start of the newly reimagined vampire’s story in this modern Buffyverse.” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “The questions weighing on Angel -- the possibility of redemption, whether or not we own our own mistakes, and how we weigh the value of the lives around us versus our own -- remain extremely relevant today.  Bryan and Gleb are tackling that head on, set against the centuries long backdrop of the horrors Angel has seen and committed, revealing aspects of Angel’s history that are sure to shock longtime fans.”

ANGEL is the newest release from BOOM! Studios’ eponymous imprint, home to critically acclaimed original series, including Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora;Faithless by Brian Azzarello and Maria Llovet; Abbott from Saladin Ahmed and Sami Kivelä; Bury The Lede from Gaby Dunn and Claire Roe; Grass Kings from Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins; and Klaus from Grant Morrison and Dan Mora. The imprint also publishes popular licensed properties including Joss Whedon’s Firefly from Greg Pak and Dan McDaid; Buffy The Vampire Slayer from Jordie Bellaire and David Lopez; and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from Ryan Parrott and Danielle Di Nicuolo.

Bernie Sanders Portrayed As Superhero In Follow-Up To Headline-Grabbing AOC Comic Book

4/20/2019

Picture

(WASHINGTON, DC — April 20, 2019) After making international headlines with its superhero comic about Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Chicago's Devil's Due Comics has announced a sequel is now available for pre-order. Talk Bernie To Me!: The Bernie Sanders Special and AOC Surprise is a one-off commemorative comic celebrating two-time Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, featuring contributions from several acclaimed and award-winning writers/artists. (Variant covers are also available.)

In addition to depicting the Vermont Senator as a full-fledged  superhero, Talk Bernie To Me! will be chock full of short-form Bernie comics, Trump and GOP skewering, plus satirical games and puzzles. The comic is slated for a July 3, 2019 release (in both physical and digital form), and by popular demand will include additional AOC content. Pre-orders can be made at BernieComic.com, with a portion of all sales going to the ACLU and RaicesTexas.org, which provides free and low-cost legal services to under-served immigrant children, families, and refugees.

The surprise announcement comes mere weeks after Devil's Due announced its Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez And The Freshman Force comic (available here as of May 15), and ten years after the debut of its wildly-popular Barack the Barbarian graphic novel series. All three titles are the brainchild of artist and Devil’s Due Publisher Josh Blaylock, working in tandem with an all-star group of talent.

When Devil's Due opted to follow up its now-infamous AOC comic book, there was no hesitation in choosing the next political figure to spotlight. "I've been increasingly impressed with Sanders' ingenuity and ability to be on the right side of history -- even when it’s not the popular thing to do -- from his fights for civil rights and healthcare many decades ago, to the introduction of the recent Stop BEZOS Act and Stop WALMART Act," says Blaylock. "I'm excited to see him leading this new movement as a frontrunner for the Democratic Party."

(Deluxe Edition)                                                               (Standard Edition)

With the recent success of partnerships with BabyMetal, Andy Black and Skillet, Z2 Comics continues to solidify their place as the premier creator of music-affiliated graphic novels. The company has entered in to their largest partnership to date creating a graphic novel for the iconic Grateful Dead. Grateful Dead Origins takes an in depth and personal look at the formation of one of the most important American rock bands of all time, exploring the early days of Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Pigpen, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart. The story of the band’s transformation from a bar band performing as the Warlocks to becoming the creators of their own sound and forefathers for the jamband culture is depicted in the original story written by Chris Miskiewicz and illustrated by Noah Van Sciver. The graphic novel will be scheduled for release in early 2020.

Grateful Dead Origins will be available in a standard edition and a limited run collectors deluxe edition. The standard edition will come in a softcover version that will feature an exclusive download of Grateful Dead music from their early years to serve as a companion to the graphic novel. The limited run collector’s deluxe edition will come in a hardcover, oversized, individually-numbered coffee table edition featuring prints and autographed by the comic creators. It will also come with a selection of unreleased Grateful Dead music from the era on vinyl. The deluxe edition will be available for pre-order at www.z2comics.com/shop/grateful-dead. Pre-orders are now available for all configurations of Grateful Dead Origins.

“We've seen many archival releases that offer magnificent audio representations of the Grateful Dead's history, and several filmed interpretations of the Dead's story. To these, we're thrilled to add to the Dead's narrative canon this beautiful portrayal of the Dead's origin story in the form of this wonderful new comic,” says Grateful Dead audiovisual archivist and legacy manager David Lemieux. “Chris and Noah have captured the Dead's sensibility in their words and images that bring to life on the page the earliest days of the Grateful Dead, from the band's founding in 1965 through to Woodstock. We couldn't be happier to be partnering with such talented artists who have delved so deeply into the Dead's history and origin.”

“Jerry Garcia was an avid comic book enthusiast so it is incredibly fitting to have the Grateful Dead’s origin story told in graphic novel form,” says Mark Pinkus, President of Rhino Entertainment. “Z2’s passion for the band’s music and mythology make them the perfect partner to bring the story to life. This will undoubtedly be a ‘must have’ item for Grateful Dead and graphic novel fans alike.”

About Grateful Dead:
Grateful Dead is a social and musical phenomenon that grew into a genuine American treasure. In 1965, an entire generation was linked together by common ideals, gathering by the hundreds and thousands. This movement created a seamless connection between the band and its fans. As the band toured, Dead Heads would follow. Not because it was a part of popular culture, but because it is a true counterculture that exists to this very day-one that earnestly believes in the value of its beliefs. By 1995, Grateful Dead had attracted the most concert goers in the history of the music business, and today remain one of the all-time leaders in concert ticket sales. Eventually, the caravan evolved into a community with various artists, craftsmen and entrepreneurs supplying a growing demand for merchandise that connected them to the music. Today, the connection is as strong as ever. The band was inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1994 and received a Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Their final tally of 2,318 total concerts remains a world record.

About Z2 Comics:
Z2 Comics have made a name for themselves releasing quality graphic novels in to the marketplace since 2012. In 2016, Z2 began collaborating with musicians to create graphic novels centered on unique stories and exclusive music. That ideal led them to work with the likes of Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys), DJ Paul Oakenfold, jazz trumpeter Dave Chisholm and others. 2018 marked another landmark year as Z2 partnered with Japanese metal band BABYMETAL on Apocrypha: The Legend Of BabyMetal, which is one of the biggest selling graphic novels Z2 has released. With the upcoming release of Andy Biersack’s The Ghost Of Ohio in 2019 and other soon-to-be- named partnerships, Z2 Comics continues to push the envelope with their music and comics integrations.

"The response to the new Transformers series has been amazing," says editor David Mariotte. Discover One Token To Rule All the Babies in Their Very First Graphic Novel Adventure

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 18, 2019) – BOOM! Studios today announced the first-ever Rugrats original graphic novel RUGRATS: THE LAST TOKEN, about the babies’ journey to save the arcade from certain doom with the treasured last token, from writer Pranas T. Naujokaitis (Adventure Time) and artist Maurizia Rubino (Steven Universe) in stores November 2019. Join the Rugrats as they set off on a magical quest to battle monsters, hordes, and the pernicious influence of greed in the most epic adventure of all time!

Stu and Drew have taken the babies to the local arcade for a relaxing day of pizza and games but one does not simply walk into the Wizard Rat Pizza Parlor Fun Time. When the arcade’s token stock goes down to one, a frenzy breaks loose and darkness descends upon the arcade floor. Every child seeks the precious golden coin for their own game with no thought to the needs of all the children of Fun Time. It is up to Tommy, son of Stu, and his noble fellowship of Rugrats to guard the one token across the treacherous game room floor to the fabled volcano arcade machine, told to yield a stream of tokens if you win, in order to save the day.

Naujokaitis is an Ignatz Award-nominated writer who has worked for Boom! Studios on Adventure Time: Ice King and Uncle Grandpa in Uncle Grandpaland.

“One thing I always loved about Rugrats is how spot on they get it when showing how kids pretend when playing. I wanted to do a story that honored those playtimes but through the eyes of Tommy and the gang,” said Naujokaitis. “I am honored to get to put my own small personal stamp and work with characters that I loved when I was young enough (and small enough) to still be allowed inside those plastic tubes of my youth.”

Rubino is an illustrator of children’s books and comic books based in Milan. She was an artist for Steven Universe: Fusion Frenzy #1 from BOOM! Studios.

“I’m very excited to work on RUGRATS: THE LAST TOKEN. The story is super fun and full of references to classic fantasy stories, so it’s been a really interesting book to illustrate,” said Rubino. “I'm very happy to be the artist who has accompanied the babies on this amazing adventure!”

RUGRATS: THE LAST TOKEN, featuring a cover by Chrystin Garland (Steven Universe), is the latest release from BOOM! Studios’ award-winning KaBOOM! imprint, home to comics for middle grade and younger readers, including licensed series such as Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Regular Show, Ben 10, and Over The Garden Wall, along with original series like Just Beyond: The Scare School by R.L. Stine and Kelly & Nichole Matthews, Hex Vet by Sam Davies, RuinWorld by Derek Laufman, and Pandora’s Legacy by Kara Leopard, Kelly & Nichole Matthews.

“This uproarious Rugrats adventure is a tip of the hat to one of my favorite genres, fantasy,” said Matthew Levine, Editor, BOOM! Studios. “Pranas and Maurizia have crafted a tale that weaves humor and action as the babies dream up some big fantasy and challenge themselves in a quest to rid the arcade of unhealthy competition. This is an epic Rugrats story unlike any we’ve done before! ”

Print copies of RUGRATS: THE LAST TOKEN will be available in November 2019 at local comic book shops (use comicshoplocator.com to find the nearest one) , or at the BOOM! Studios webstore. Digital copies can be purchased from content providers like comiXology, iBooks, Google Play, and the BOOM! Studios app.

PORTLAND, OR 04/17/2019 — Dan Watters (Sandman Universe: Lucifer, Limbo) teams with artist Dani (2000AD, Girl with No Name) for an all-new action series full of grindhouse nightmares and high-octane chills in Coffin Bound. The ongoing series will launch from Image Comics this August.

Chased by an unstoppable killer, Izzy Tyburn has decided that if the world won’t have her in it, it can have nothing of her at all. She’s retreading her life, leaving nothing but burned rubber, ash… and the sun-scorched bones of those who get in her way.

"This is a book all about the inevitability of death, and the choice each of us faces between coming to terms with it, or trying to deny it,” said Watters. “This is a book drawn beautifully by Dani, with Brad Simpsons' filthy bright colors. This is a book about cars, guns, and sex—and how each of those things does little to stave off the bottomless void waiting just beyond the veil of our known existence. What was the question again?"

Scribe Dennis "Hopeless" Hallum (Star Wars: Vader - Dark Visions) proclaims, “The Valiant universe is full of intensely human characters with wild origins and interesting flaws.” With X-O MANOWAR Hallum is excited to explore new territory, “We always give the cool robot suits to billionaires and scientists. I love how Aric flips that on its head. He didn't build the suit. He can't explain the suit. And he could kick your butt up and down the road without the suit. The anachronism is fascinating and I can't wait to play around with it.”
