The siege of Winslow House continues! Devil is up against the thugs trying to invade and possibly the house itself. What makes this seemingly rundown building so special and will its tenants survive to find out?
I really like this book so far. The Winslow House is an interesting thing or entity of whatever it is because it is alive. If this issue is any indication of it what we can expect then the House is much more powerful than I could have imagined, and trust me with my imagination and how I equate this the original haunted house that sparked all the rest, I have a very active imagination. Bart falls asleep and we see what he experience and I think that is as much about him needing to learn or be reminded of something as much as it is something that will help the residents. I would like to think that the house of is a place of refuge, somewhere people can go, feel safe and get their lives together though with how long these folks have lived together there much be other external forces at play even through the whole beneficial face.
The story & plot development that we see with how the information and how we see the evolution within the characters is extremely well done. Plus the addition of another character more mysterious than all the rest well that's brilliantly done. The character development that we see there is superb! The way everything flows and how we see the characters themselves adapt and change in the situations they find themselves in is remarkably well executed. When we factor in the pacing for this the twists and turns are revealed and the ebb & flow of the story takes on a life of it's own. This is some of the weirdest and most interesting work that Gail has ever done and I have to say seeing her grow and change here is a stunning thing of beauty.
The interiors here are marvellous! I am sorry but whomever is responsible for the wallpaper here deserves more than a simple award because holy shite! It's so damn good, the subtlety and the nuances with the work are so well done that you can lose yourself searching them for god knows what. I rather am enamoured with the way Walter is able to manipulate the linework through it's varying weights and how that brings out the attention to detail. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a strong and talented eye for storytelling. The colour work that we see, aside from that mesmerising wallpaper, is done in such a way that the way we seeing shading, highlights and the utilisation of shadows is extremely nice to see.
There is a lot going on this issue and much if not all of it seems to be completely and utterly outside the norm. The things that are said to Bart here inside these pages make me excited, not really for the rest of this arc because I already am, for what is to come with the character. If someone is planning to bring this into the spotlight then I am all for it, after all we've seen many of these time-tossed heroes unsure of life in this new time so maybe just maybe it's time to explore that more. I'd love to see Gail do more work with these characters as it is my humble opinion she's one of the strongest writers working today
