KRANG IS SET TO GO ON TRIAL IN DIMENSION X. HE HAS HIRED THE CYBERNETIC ASSASSIN HAKK-R TO ELIMINATE THE WITNESSES SET TO TESTIFY AGAINST HIM. MEANWHILE, THE TURTLES RACE TO DIFFERENT PLANETS IN
DIMENSION X TO ESCORT THE WITNESSES TO SAFETY BEFORE HAKK-R GETS TO THEM FIRST!
Not gonna lie I was hoping that Paul and Pablo would be doing the entire run. Though it makes sense that each issue has a different creator if they are going to come out each week. With a solid theme and direction each stand alone issue has the boys gathering up witnesses to testify against Krang. So it makes sense to divvy up the work and make sure it’s all done and can be shipped on time.
I am such a fan of these issues because of the immense science fiction feel that is the core of the series is so on display. Traveling to different dimensions interacting with strange alien races and getting the opportunity to fight along the way what could possibly be better? Well through in the kind of characterisation we’re getting and that pretty tops it all off. I mean i’ll fully admit that I have no idea who Anemon was until reading this story but after reading this issue I have to say i’m kind of a fan of his bad guy or not.
The interiors are great here as well. With the creativity and imagination on display here with the contribution of some amazing shades of colour really make this stand out. The way page layouts are done with their angles, perspective and even the utilisation of backgrounds help the flow of the story and still manage to keep its alien nature fully intact. I like it, i’m getting lost in the worlds and the imagination that we are seeing here.
I like the way that things which are familiar can be turned into something horrific and more alien than they already are. These fish creatures, like our own deep sea Anglers, are as creepy, unusual and look as dangerous as they are supposed to. By contrast Amenon’s new friend, ally and new eye and mouthpiece is right cute little bugger. Heck even combined they make an interesting pair.
There’s a nice mix here of the use of brains and muscle in getting these folks to agree to testify. I mean it isn’t like Krang doesn’t deserve what he’s getting but he’s Dimension X’s biggest bad guy and that scares folks. While we never saw how and why the Turtles have gotten involved in all this i’m not really that even matters. Besides the Assassin on their trail trying to find a way to stop them it really feels more like an exploratory story that gives readers one of two things, either a reminder of these characters or the introduction of it for folks like me. This is how you get people interesting in the Turtles who haven’t been in the past, by bringing us something new, different and kind of unique.
