The world’s new teen superhero duo of Cosmosis and Amina is ready to rescue their kidnapped parents from the Foresight Corporation, unaware that a new superpowered resistance force is in the works. How will secrets from their past affect the mission? Is there more to their inventor ally, Abbie, than meets the eye?
Alright so I couldn’t like this book any more right now if I had wanted to. Alright aside from the fact that takes place in some place like Youngstown Ohio which is kind of the middle of nowhere straddling the border to Pennsylvania if features Jonah or Cosmosis who has Down Syndrome. Jonah is one of the books lead characters and that it would feature someone so handi-capable is freakin awesome! I’m going to go out on a limb here and say from the opening this issue his symptoms are delayed motor skills which actually makes him somewhat high functioning. Now what the enhancement gave as well is anyone’s guess.
With Kayla and Abbie fighting like they are I am so totally engrossed. Both girls have this stubborn streak in them and are used to be right and the centre of attention in their worlds that together they are fighting for dominance here. The real sign of who should be on top is going to be which one is going to concede and be the bigger person.
Meanwhile back at the Legion of Doom, no seriously Foresight Headquarters where mister I'm a massive asshat who doesn’t bother using his name and interrogates the parents like he’s god is someone I wanna smack into orbit. Alright I know that the world needs villains and they come in all shapes and sizes and within and outside of the government or corporations as the case may be. After all we’ve seen another corporation trying to cash in on their superheroes as well. Still the characterisation is strong with him and it causes us to extremely dislike him, not even in a villain we love to hate kind of way.
The interior artwork here is pretty good. There are a lot of folks involved though and I don’t know how it all breaks down though I have a feeling the flashback is one group and everything else the other. I say this because in the flashback the utilisation of backgrounds is phenomenal, in the present not so much. Also the past has a lot more attention to detail and the present is much more comic book-ish in that its nicely done but is too familiar. The use of page layouts is well done with the way we see angles and perspective. Also seeing Jonah’s eyes let us know that he’s got Down Syndrome so it’s very nice to see that as accurate.
Well the girl the kids were trying to save shows up again here. She’s been training with Foresight and her team is going out to capture our wayward teens. Okay that’s all subjective and I feel a conflict of interest coming up for Corinna. I say that just because of the focus on her we’ve seen already and that she knows Jonah and Kayla from school. I’d like to see that play out so the threesome make a quartet but we’ll see if that’s in the cards for her.
I’m not sure where in the grand scheme of things this one is going to find itself but it feels like something that will end up clashing with Lorena Payan at some point if the corporations hold true to how they are seen. While I’m all for kids with super-powers teaming up to save the world how many are too many teams of them? This one feels like the kids could end up going underground as it were and that avenue hasn’t been explored yet so if options are still open that’s the route I’d prefer seeing them go.
This is an all-around solid book whose potential hasn’t even been scratched at yet.
