Cammy risks everything as she dives into the twisted mind of the Shadaloo Doll Decapre. But what she finds there may fracture the Delta Blue team even more...
Plus, in a special bonus story, it's a battle of the beasts as Blanka encounters a strange and furry fighter!
I really like the way that Jim’s writing this story. I mean I haven’t had to follow any of the previous series to understand what’s happening here. Everything we need to know is explained as the story unfolds and it’s great stuff. It really fleshes out the background of Cammy and her team and presents a plausible story that involves more than a simple assignment for government agents. The science fiction aspect here is great and it fits in with the whole concept of F.A.N.G. and what they are after, reuniting Bison’s Doll’s.
Yes we all know that Street Fighter is a fighting franchise but to see the level of technology in play here expands that into something much greater. That Cammy shares just over 99% of DNA with Decapre, cloning or something else(?) doesn’t make a difference, and this mind melding machine that they’ve created is a great example that there are more subtle avenues to explore that lead to the fight scenes which we love about this franchise. It also gives you that whole James Bond style writing and storytelling that can incorporate these folks beautifully into that Government Agent role.
The characterisation here has been great to see. Jim really shows us what Cammy is made of and her resolve and determination not to mention inner strength really help us see her for the woman and leader she is. Her teammates unwavering loyalty and their willingness to follow her to the end really speak volumes about her and them.
I do like the interiors here they’ve got that animated American Manga style going on here. The attention to detail and the use of backgrounds and technology all of make this exciting. The flow of the story through the page layouts with the use of angles and perspective create that intangible effect needed to really get the action to pop.
I love that Jim takes what the franchise and character are known for and expands her world and team into so much more. The story, it’s pacing and progression alongside the characterisation really have made want to see more of them and the missions they go on. They are among the world’s elite forces for good here and while this isn’t over yet i’m already hoping that this isn’t the last mini-series focusing on Cammy and Delta Blue!
