One universe is dead. Another is dying. Nekron has resurrected the destroyed planet Vulcan and its inhabitants. With this unliving army he begins his march of death across the stars. Standing in his way: the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise and the last surviving members of the various Lantern Corps...
This my friends is probably the most intense and fun Crossover Event of 2015! Not only does it accurately depict the characters of both universes but it sets a new standard for future ones. Plus it kind of creates a brand new universe that could be revisited again. This was probably the best blending of two companies, two universes and two franchises that i’ve ever seen done before.
So in this Star Trek Universe the Planet Vulcan was destroyed and we saw Nekron use his power to resurrect it and it’s inhabitants and his new army of Black Lanterns. The Green, Violet and Blue Lanterns all arrived in time to start the fight to stop Nekron. That’s where pick up though it’s fun to see Spock’s mother there to talk to him trying to reach his human and take him off the playing field. Seriously that whole exchange and how he’s well saved from it is truly remarkable and it plays on such classic stories that we’ve had when it Leonard Nimoy’s Spock.
Seeing just strong and powerful Nekron is even against the combined might of the assembled Lantern’s and the Enterprise and her crew is mind blowing. It really does showcase that sheer dumb luck is what’s really needed to defeat him. Plus think about he’s kind of death personified so his threat is never truly over. One of the highlights here was when Sinestro shows up and takes the fight to Nekron. Wow love or hate him you can’t deny that Sinestro is one of the all time greatest characters ever made and Mike does that idea justice beyond compare.
It’s kind of fun when the talk about the only time they’ve been able to beat Nekron gives our beloved Captain an idea. Also while all this is happening let us not forget that out in space we’ve got three Trek Universe characters and two Lantern leaders still about but what happens when the rings leave those who’ve been chosen to combine and fight Nekron well you gotta see it. It’s not surprising but on some level it is a little. The only ring not being wielded is the green one but there’s a solution for that as well.
Seriously i’m in complete shock and awe at what Mike has brought to the table for the final issue of this story. The idea’s, creativity and execution here is literally the stuff that legends are made of. Even the epilogue is something that you won’t expect but applaud.
Angel and Alejandro should definitely be lauded for their talents here as well. This wouldn’t be as legendary as it is without their efforts. I mean I really expand on what I’ve said about them in the past they have done as perfect a job on the interiors as you can possibly do it couldn’t have been done any better.
Next year this should have Limited Series of the Year tied up!
