The last few Lantern Rings in existence are dying. Without a Power Battery to recharge the rings, the various Lantern Corps will be no more. Responding to a distress call from the Blue Lantern Saint Walker,Hal Jordan and the U.S.S. Enterprise arrived at a remote planet to find the remains of a Manhunter...And Sinestro and the Klingons waiting for them.
Oh Hell to the Yea! I am all for these folks putting out one six issue arc a year for the foreseeable future. The blending of the two universes has been perfectly done by Mike and it has so much potential. With the rings running low on charges and a new galaxy to explore and conquer and the discovery of a Manhunter it’s like i’m kid in a candy store with an all you can eat pass.
One of the aspects that I’m really enjoying in all this is how Mike mixes the happenings of the two universes. Atrocitus for instance he opens and closes this issue and how and what happens with him is fantastic! It really does add another dimension to what’s going on here and then reminds us that the Star Trek universe has some interesting powerful villains of it’s own.
The characterisation here is utterly fantastic. Aside from Hal’s penchant to act without thinking, much like Kirk, there’s the way the DC characters are shown acclimating to this new universe. With Carol’s new role, boyfriend and outfit a perfect example as is Hal’s reaction to seeing it. Guy’s not really wanting to be an adventurer that’s a little suspect but then there’s more there than meets the eye and I cannot wait to see what Mike’s doing with that. Otherwise having them fly around checking on things out of Starfleet’s realm of expertise is a great move.
Angel’s interiors here never cease to amaze me. I love the attention to detail here in the characters and the backgrounds it all has this great look and feel to it. The use of page layouts through angles and perspective keep the adventure exciting and the mundane interesting. I’m still impressed with how the Lanterns look one style and Enterprise crew their own so that they mesh but come across differently.
With last issue’s find of a Manhunter the idea that OA might exist in this universe takes on new meaning. It would be rather interesting to see the Borg and the Manhunters go at it but somehow I doubt that’s in the cards. Still with Sinestro vs Hal for possession of the Manhunter what happens here is pretty great. Plus we see what happened to Larfleeze and Saint Walker now i’m just waiting for the bearer of the Indigo Ring to see where she is in this new universe.
If there was any question that this was going to be as awesome as the first arc then that’s been put to rest. This is an amazing amalgamation of the two universes into something that should never end.
