I’m such a fan of what Cullen has been doing with this franchise.  It’s another case of where it’s Hasbro property that has appeared at other companies before but this is my first time reading it.  IDW did merge all the Hasbro properties into one universe which is fantastic in my opinion, see animated movies please.  Usually i’m a fan of the Annual as a kind of stand alone adventure that’s too big to be told in one issue in the run.  Cullen has decided that the annual while being that big oversized adventure should tie into the series and i’m more than okay with that.

We open up here with a recap so if you want a great story that can introduce you to the series go ahead it’s worth it here.  The recap brings us to where they are currently, which happens to be on Earth and their priority is to find a way back to the Microverse.  The Entropy Cloud is threatening to destroy their home but it’s been that way for a long time and that isn’t going to stop anytime soon.  However on Earth a sentient time chamber has convinced them to go back to the Microverse and has a way to get there.

This is the story about whether or not they go home or if Earth is going to become their new home for the time being.  Cullen uses an old play in doing that here and while I should feel that’s kind of tired it’s very well done.  While the premise is strong here I really like the continuing characterisation and the wildly different looks that we get in this issue.  I like the way we see them from very different angles one where they are currently and one that could be from a possible future.  It does however showcase one thing they have in common throughout and that’s that they do have a tendency to fight first and ask questions later.

Marcelo and David do some very nice work on the interiors here.  The blend of humanoid and mechanical work really well in the design.  The use of page layouts through angles, perspective and use of backgrounds really work well to bring the reader into the story.  The way they manage to slightly tweak the looks of the characters is pretty impressive and makes them just different enough to show what they’ve been through and familiar enough to know who they are.

The one thing that worries me with this whole story is that there will be two versions of Micronaut teams running around on Earth.  With already learning that there are colonies of residents from the Microverse on Earth having given them the potential to find both refuge and enemies I think that’s enough.  To have another adventuring team so close to these characters would be overcrowding in my opinion.  So here’s hoping that we are only left with only one main adventuring team.

Fun, adventurous and daring Cullen tales the tale of how the decision is made.  The Microverse or Earth either way they will continue to find ways to help their people and a way to stop the Entropy Cloud.
