By Maria Llovet
* As Lux and Teresa unite their bodies, her consciousness is transported somewhere else... and she discovers something -- and someone -- of a divine nature.
* But this journey across realities will reveal unexpected truths to Teresa about the Family of the Sun... and herself.
Oh my stars and garters Maria is the queen of erotic storytelling right now. I mean this issue is one that is so filled with double entendre and misdirection and deception that it is only while in throes of love making that she’s able to see who’s who and what is what and is able to enjoy herself dually with the imposter and the real thing. What I am really appreciating out of what we see is that it’s mostly implied and there isn’t anything that gets too graphic, though not going to lie I would like to see some hard penis on occasion since we do tend to see more of the female form in various positions and angles. Just a thought of what I would like to see and considering the nature of the story well….
The way that this is being told is incredibly well done. The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well. Maria is amazing she has this innate ability to get into the subject, in this case Luna, in such a way that even they don’t know as much about themselves as she presents to the reader. Watching Luna learn about herself as the story moves forward is the kind of characterisation that you will not ever see anywhere else and its almost kind of her signature stamp if you will. The pacing that we see here is incredibly well rendered and as it takes us through the pages and reveals these nuggets of information it really creates this amazing experience.
How we see this being structured and how the layers within the story are able to weave through each other, stand separate and yet be part of the exact same and it’s almost mind boggling in how it’s achieved. How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is beautifully done. The overall effect of the storytelling creates its own kind of magic and it suits this book to a “T.”
The interiors here a modern interpretation of the sixties kind of psychedelic phase. There is some absolutely stunning imagery that’s incredibly tasteful and yet evocative to the point of no return at the same time. Normally I would be talking about backgrounds and how they are needed but not here, there’s a way that we see the composition within the panels that make it feel filled up when the reality is there is plenty of open space. I cannot rave enough about Maria’s talent, skill and her uniqueness in being able to do what she does. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show such a remarkably talented eye for storytelling. The colour work is divine. How we se the various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work is breathtaking. The choices of colour we see can range from the mundane to the extraordinary and how it mixes and matches throughout is mind numbing.
Take a walk on the wild side as it were and let the feelings and emotions including all this sensuality take you on that yellow submarine ride through its pages. It’s a modern day throwback to a time when free love and drugs were what got us through the day and let us explore every option no matter how out there it was. No more being confined or towing the line as it were, we are all individuals and choosing to take the path least travelled should be something we all do.
