Lost in another dimension, the Power Rangers must face a team unlike any they’ve ever encountered! In a world teeming with god-like heroes and villains as monstrous as Lord Zedd, it will take more than superpowers to survive. Can the Power Rangers work with the Justice League to find a way back home?
Once again DC and Boom! Bring us a team-up that we never thought we’d see or that would work! It’s only the second issue of the crossover and after the obligatory confrontation between the two teams it’s time to settle down and get to the business at hand. Before that can happen though these two teams aren’t the only team-up happening and the world is about to face a threat they’ve never had before!
Honestly I almost passed on this but curiosity got the better of me. I love the fact that after finding themselves on a different Earth the Power Rangers attacked Batman. I mean if you came from another dimension and the first hero you encountered was Batman you’d attack to he’s kind of scary as all get out. That this wasn’t a case of simply meet and attack it was an honest mistake was a nice twist in the storytelling and the continued assertion that Batman is scary to them well it made me smile!
I think Tom is doing some spectacular things with this story. Aside from the phenomenal characterisation of both teams the way this is structured so that this could even happen is extremely well done. I’m thoroughly impressed with how both teams see and react to what they find themselves facing. Kim being in her Pterodactyl and Superman asking her nicely to land it well it was one of those moments that you can’t help but just marvel at. For him it’s almost nonplussed just another day at the office but for her well this is unprecedented.
I also like that we see the inherent difference in the way the two companies approach their teams. The Justice League is capture then talk and Stewart didn’t need to restrain them to talk but jumped the gun anyway escalating events. The Power Rangers response was just that a response to what John did and that we see who is really the aggressor well it’s just an interesting point of view.
Stephen’s more animated approach to the interiors does an excellent job in making both teams feel like they are on an even playing field. Even though the Justice League are considered Superheroes and have the bodies to match the Power Rangers look and feel as if they belong alongside them. His use of page layouts with their angles, perspective and use of backgrounds here really do give off a great feel and allow us into the action nicely.
So now that the two teams have semi-properly been introduced it’s time for the team-up part of the adventure to begin before the Power Rangers can head home.
DC and Boom! Continue their partnership in bringing us crossovers that we never knew we needed and make some of the best reading around!
