Bobby tried to reconnect with his parents over dinner, but Purifiers tracked down the Drakes and attacked! In the aftermath Bobby’s mother admitted that while Bobby’s powers scare them, it’s their own fault they don’t know their son anymore. With promises of renewed efforts to reconnect, Bobby left his parents knowing that acceptance is a process--one he must actively participate in as well….
So we’ve seen Bobby and ex-girlfriend and current Headmaster Kitty Pryde sort of reconcile and become more than just ex’s ro friends. This is Sina trying to establish not only a pattern with Bobby but build him a legitimate supporting cast as well. So it should come as no surprise that she’s the one we see opening up this issue and leads Bobby to the discovery that Zach isn’t at the school.
So i’m not up on all the students currently enrolled at Xavier’s so i’m not really sure who Zach is but you don’t really have to. It’s clear that Bobby feels some sort of responsibility for the kid and goes off to find him. Gotta hand it to him too his idea to get into one of the most exclusive clubs in the city is kind of Scooby genius. Oh yeah modern writing and social media and a couple other students let us know how to find Zach. Great use of social media and it reminds me why i’m glad i’m so not glued to my phone. I will say that Sina has his pulse firmly on what’s now and knows how to make it work as well teach the old guard the new tricks.
Now at the club Bobby runs into Daken. Now here’s the problem I have, I was under the impression Daken was dead. It’s hard enough to know who’s dead and been resurrected these days and Marvel is the guiltiest out there at killing off characters then immediately bringing them back to life making the death of said character meaningless. That having been said I love the way Daken makes Bobby uncomfortable and the tense flirting that ensues between them.
Have to say really enjoying the interior artwork here. The attention to detail is amazingly well done and the attention given to the background scenes in play are wonderful. Though let’s use more of that in the future shall we? Page layouts are done nicely and the people look fantastic so it’s very solid work. Someone needs to watch things though because the foul in Daken’s claws not being the same throughout the story is extremely noticeable.
So another thing that Sina is doing is showing us that Bobby’s troubles are as much self-centered as anything else in his life. His own insecurities about being him get in the way of him being able to move forward. His younger self doesn’t have that problem and he let’s it all get into his head too much. Daken of all people to show him exactly his faults while ironic is the best route to have it done. I mean here’s a guy who’s pretty much at peace with who he is telling him exactly what he sees in Bobby and Bobby doesn’t wanna hear it. This is as close to real life as you can get within established comics.
