Amon investigates an ancient cemetery of mythical giants that lies under the San Andreas Fault and discovers that someone has awakened the giants with the intention to unleash them against mankind. While in battle with the giants, Anon is ambushed and left for dead.
I am quite fascinated by this series. I love the idea behind it that under the California land there lies not just the San Andreas Fault but an underground graveyard belonging to Giants only everyone is mistaken because the Giants weren’t dead just dormant and now they are awake and the world is beginning to understand how deadly that mistake is. How can you not love the idea that a civilisation of giants lies beneath the American continent? Personally as soon as I was done reading this I went on Netflix to look for a movie that was similar in content. Some kind of bad sci-fi flick or disaster one would’ve been perfect.
Massimo has a great sense of how a story should flow. It is issue three and we’re finally getting a good look inside what is supposed to be that graveyard. That and we are seeing progress in dealing with them and Amon’s plan being enacted, which by the way his plan starts out like a boss and I dunno what the whole thing but if this is how he thinks and what he’s capable of then I’m all in for whatever is coming with him. The pacing has been excellent and the way information is given, or discovered by not just the characters but the readers as well is done in such a way to draw you in and keep your attention rapt to the page.
Then there’s Gabriel and what he’s doing on the interiors here. I mean Jesus Cristo holy moly and whatever other amazing adjectives can come flying out of your mouth this is that good! The attention to detail that we see is utterly mind boggling in how much there is and depth of it. Regardless what part of the panel it is that detail extends I could spend hours absorbing what is here. His eye for storytelling through the page layouts with their angles and perspective is something special indeed. Now since I don’t know if he’s doing the entire thing but if he is then the colouring is just as impressive as it’s able to show so much range.
There is a creativity and imagination on display here that goes beyond the visual because it takes quite the mind to not envision the story itself but to bring it to life as well from those words. I mean the sheer amount of creativity in this storytelling that w are seeing here is beyond what I could’ve or should’ve been expecting but having read a lot more of his writing lately Massimo continues to impress me with his talent, skill and ability.
So when just a man attacks Amon after he deals with a group of Giants things escalate and he’s taken down. By a man in a mask who he considers a raving lunatic but one who also awakened the giants for his own purpose. What that purpose is who knows but by destroying America at lease is something he really wants to do if not just it’s government. Heh I do like it and no Amon doesn’t get a look at him so he doesn’t know who it is just yet. Does he suspect who it is, only in the broadest of terms and that means what’s coming is going to be even more glorious.
I cannot recommend this highly enough, Scout Comics should be on your lips, in your reading piles and on your local shoppes shelves.
