Well folks this is the one we’ve been waiting for as the story unfolds during his interrogation we finally get the origin of the Elasticator! Well that among other somewhat shocking revelations. We haven’t gotten to the events of the “big war” that have shaken things in the Borough up yet but we’re rocketing towards that. A.C.’s pacing remains a strong point throughout this issue, and series, and as we keep learning more about these characters and what motivates them things have become more intense.
We open with Alvarez responding to what happened to her partner, which by the way we see in all its glory. It’s kind of important for a number of reasons as not only does it demonstrate the boldness of those who did it, but the behind the scenes manipulation to keep her off the streets and those guilty free as well as the beginning of the end as in leading up to that war. As the Chief listens in you know he’s busted for the role he’s been playing in all this. It’ll be interesting to see if anything comes of it though.
I think we get more information this issue on a whole than we have in the first two. That’s not to say there hasn’t been great characterization and superb story setup it’s just this is where the meat of the arc lays so far. This is the issue where we start to see why, when and how things really started to change and that’s a major thing to start happening. As more players are on the board and we see just what some of them can do well it explains much. Though I have to say the interaction between the Elasticator and the Detectives is a much welcome addition this issue. Questions and answers that’s what it’s all about right and A.C. really does this right.
Tig is his friend and while he may be leading his peeps he’s always had higher hopes for Mazerati and by kicking him out and forcing him to college, complete with payment options, you see how things could have gone. So why did they go down so he’s the Elasticator and angry as get out and not afraid to kill? Well the answers are here but you need to read them to fully understand the impact of them.
I’ve been a fan of Kevin’s art in this series though I do have one question, is there a legitimate reason for that woman in the undies with heal’s on being topless? If so why not one guy in that group in just as little? I will say otherwise the flow of this story has been wonderful and even the violence as extreme as it gets is done well. Trajectory and the way bullets and such affect a person well done indeed. Personally i’m a big fan of backgrounds and more use of them would’ve been nice but i’ll live. Also the creativity in seeing him in action for the first time acting solely on instinct and rage well that came across better than you could’ve hoped for.
This is what happens when you’ve a character with powers that are usually seen as silly being used as a deadly weapon. Most assuredly for mature readers this is among the rank of file of books that redefine what it means to have powers and the responsibility that goes with them for a new generation. Gone is altruism and in it’s place is protecting those you care about any way you can.
