Gabby and the Doctor came to Wupatki, a giant network of human cities floating in the habitable zone of a gas giant. There, they met the Shan’Tee, a species of sentient songs – only to discover that the Shan’Tee have been infected by a mysterious memetic virus that is turning them into monstrous killers! The Doctor is headed into space to find the source of the infection, while Gabby remains behind to help find a solution – as the city crumbles around her!
I am such a huge fan of Nick’s his writing and his grasp of the Doctor and the companions he’s created really are spectacular! While looking at the pages I can see and hear David’s Doctor clearly in my head, the mannerisms, sayings you the nine yards and it makes reading this that much more pleasurable. A lot of that pleasure comes from Eleonora as well since the Doctor looks like a great animated version of Tennant making the words that come from him that much more believable.
I think one of the aspects of this series that I like so much is the introduction of worlds and species that haven’t been introduced yet. These creatures the Shan’Tee for instance have this ethereal quality to them and are more noticeable to some who are more intune with this world or the creatures and their symbiotic relationship is better portrayed here in comic book form than in either novel or television format. I wouldn’t mind however if at some point they appear again with another version of the Doctor keeping them in a kind of continuity.
Gabby’s growing on me and her steadfast devotion to the Doctor and willingness to stand by her new friends, quick thinking and loyalty are very admirable qualities. It’s just too bad that she wasn’t there to see the Doctor or lil Smokey in action because that was pure classic Doctor stuff happening! See Nick’s amazing ability to nail it all so perfectly and tell it from two points of view as the action unfolds well it’s delightful. Also his solution yeah that was pretty interesting and something again I want to see more of, the actual thing that happened cause I wanted to laugh out loud at that.
The ending was freakin awesome too! So glad that the way things ended with the previous season aren’t going to be forgotten and that Anubis is going to be keeping tabs on the Doctor. It’ll get annoying but it’s just another opportunity to hear him talk his way out of a situation with that mind of his which is always brings me joy. That Gabby makes friends with him and asks about Dorothy well it just further demonstrates the difference between the Doctor and his companion.
Titan has found their writers and artists to bring the world of Doctor Who to life better than i’ve seen anywhere else and that’s saying a lot!
