Cold world war! Welcome to the year 2017?where the Soviet Union has spent decades as the world's reigning superpower and the Iron Curtain now encircles a planet riddled with war, strife, and oppression. Freedom is a thing of the past in the Stalinverse? So why can't Russian intelligence officer Colin King shake the feeling that something has gone terribly wrong? He'll put his freedom and life on the line to uncover the truth? Even if that means finding out whatever happened to the long-missing cosmonaut Abram Adams - the one man who just might hold the key to unraveling the dystopian world of today? This is no alternate reality?
With the first issue and the side stories I’ve been wondering where Myshka has been and now we’re seeing her again. While the pieces of the puzzle continue to show themselves Matt continues to play things close to the vest. We know someone has altered the timeline, again, though this time we don’t know who but we’re seeing that it affects even Myshka after she and Abram already did this dance once before.
Now if there’s any question as to why Ninjak is among my all-time favourite characters they should look no further. Matt’s love of him and showing us what he’s capable of here should answer any of those questions and more. Also seeing him this issue take on Bloodshot and then gain an very unexpected ally well it just goes to show Matt’s writing ability. The whole way this is crafted is beyond any kind of expectations I could possibly have had.
Trevor’s laying down the pencils and showing off his eye for storytelling here is wonderful to see. The use of page layouts through angles, perspective and use of backgrounds are phenomenal to see. The attention to detail throughout is beautiful to see. Plus the action sequence is well pretty smokin awesome.
As Colin and his new ally work toward getting Abram to not only remember the way the world was but to wake up and help them it would seem Putin is putting his own plans into action.
This is strong, fun and interesting storytelling that we gravitate towards.
