PREVIOUSLY IN:
After his violent death at the hands of Tera, Dellec miraculously appeared at the site of Father Strayer’s destroyed Church, unaware of how he returned. However, there was no time to figure it out, as a new foe emerged—armed with savage, bloodthirsty creatures. Meanwhile, his daughter Andy has been carrying on the fight for Dellec’s quest against The Creator, yet her method of violence has led Strayer to question her judgement…
So the end of last issue showed us that Dellec was back but where was he? Also while we got to see his daughter Andy carrying on the family tradition this really is his book and it’s time to focus on Dellec. The opening for this is utterly sensational and it’s the combination of what we read and what we see. Aspen is great at the cohesion between writers and artists and have this close knit feel to them so it is nice that that comes through their work as well. The way that this book is structured is extremely well done and the way information is released or revealed and add to that the action around it well it is just makes for a really good reading.
The introduction of the one who considers himself the “Hand of God” poses and interesting dilemma or addition to the series. Everyone is under the impression that the worst of the worst comes from Hell but even Lucifer was an Angel once. Also there are a lot of instances where those created before man of being jealous of their Father’s favourite creation. Oh and other just portray Angels and just being plain old dicks. It would seem the more popular belief is that even heaven sends those into war and their cruelty knows little bounds. So yeah I cannot wait to see his true motives revealed and to learn more about who his is and whom he claims to be.
Yeah this Bitch isn’t so much badass as she thinks she is and more just a delusional psych ward patient with unlimited power. I don’t know why villains tend to be shown as unhinged or psychotic in some way shape or form. Depending on your point of view no one believes they are the villain or are doing wrong and while she may think she’s cleaning up a mistake that was never her call to make. With the checks and balances now out of whack Earth really in a free-for-all so now that Dellec, gods chosen one, is back on Earth it’s time to make sure things get back to normal as humanly possible. Meaning nothing will get back to normal or even close but there will be an effort.
So the interiors are pretty darn good too and the creativity and imagination in places highlight the new state of Earth in ways that beg and scream for further exploration. The way that we see the linework used and how the colours highlight or low light something is se3riously strong stuff. It really does go hand in hand with the creativity and imagination. The utilisation of the of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a strong eye for storytelling. There is a noticeable difference in how clean the linework is between the two gentleman but it doesn’t feel disruptive to the story when one’s work ends and the others begins.
Strong, interesting and full of some incredibly good wow factor moments and some very solid interiors keep this as a unique and fascinating series.
