Fira’s quest to save her homelands has met with terrible hardship. With her latest victory ending in her own harrowing demise, now our champion awakes alone, her companion lost and her humanity waning...
I know this was a game before it was a comic but I have to say as one who doesn’t play video games i’m extremely enamoured with this world. After seeing what Fira has and is going through I want to learn as much as I can about this place and what she is now. I mean she’s not your typical warrior, mother or well undead creature she’s so much more and how she’s still there wanting to complete her task with that unwavering conviction is something I want to see more about.
Add into all that is Alan and Sean’s work on the interiors. I mean c’mon the sheer amount of attention to detail here is astonishing. The armour alone is magnificent to behold then to see the runes in the dirt or the way the backgrounds enhance the larger picture just give the reader such a sense of the scope and scale this story is set in. Also there are the angles and perspective we see throughout the pages and panels that help the story flow in such a great way. I’m truly impressed with the quality of artwork that adorns the pages.
When Fria enters this menacing castle and has to fight her way to the scryer there’s such a feel of majesty and menace. The sentry’s have this almost clockwork feel to them in places as she has to go against them. Mixing that quality with a more traditional D&D style undead makes them even more unique and formidable. Though for one such as she is now what does that mean?
As the journey to possess all the necessary talisman’s for their mission continues we see more than perhaps we bargained for when it comes to this pairing. The Scryer has no idea what to make of his companion now and perhaps the rot will take her mind as we’ve seen it trying to do or perhaps now her mind is more lucid and focused since recent events either way he needs her now more than ever.
I’m beginning to wonder what happens next though. If they succeed and gather all the necessary parts will they save the world as they hope or doom it? No nothing is easy and everything comes at a price, we’ve seen that first hand here, but if it were capable of being done what happened to those who came before and tried? I can’t believe no one would have tried to this before or has the rot erased all the memory of those who tried? Then there’s Fria and what happens to her should they be successful. Will she receive a warrior's funeral and advance to this world’s equivalent of Valhalla or be fully resurrected?
I don’t know how many more trials they must face before they try their hand at reigniting the flame but i’m looking forward to seeing just what indeed happens to this world if they can or cannot complete their quest.
