I’m already a fan after last issue that’s not a secret and this issue just keeps things moving along so very well. From the death in the first issues opening to the amazing opening here this horrifically beautiful diseases side effect can’t remain covered up for long.
With Beauty being the disease du jour that most everyone wants the side effects are suddenly popping up with deadly results. This issue’s opening is a prime example as on Wake Up America an on air talent explodes on live television. Ironically right after saying that the woman’s death on the train aired. Yeah the way the boys are writing this is fantastic! How can you spin something that people saw live on air into something that doesn’t relate it to the woman who died on the subway both of whom were infected by Beauty well that’s the million dollar question.
I have to admit that finding out your wife infected you with Beauty and the realization that she cheated on you well it’s all a bit much for the cops. Foster well he loves his wife and thought she was already beautiful beyond belief so he never noticed any changes in her. It’s clearly evident now though as it was at the end of last issue. Not only did it make him like uber handsome but it deaged him as well. Too bad for the side effect otherwise i want it. Still being a cop on the case dealing with the very thing that’s infected you well that’s a mind you know what if ever there was one!
So aside from all the drama happening in the precinct there’s some major revelations going on as well. Including the woman who took over the crime scene on the Subway train. We see who she’s working for and how much they know. Though they both answer to someone else who apparently is one scary individual. Still she thinks she can control Foster and Vaughn but I love that she has no idea what it is they are up to.
I have a very good appreciation for what the way the story is intertwining and unfolding before us. We’re getting plenty of good stuff here story wise along with characterization to match it. We’ve got multiple factions at odds with each other with one having the illusion of control. While the other well they are doing their jobs extremely well and without regard for chain of command. I gotta say it’s a hugely different, unique and fascinating take on a story.
Oh and the ending yeah that’s the start of some great action that will switch the flip on story driven to a mix of action/adventure turning this into a true thriller.
Jeremy and John on the interiors can’t be beat either. I love that the focus is on the people and the backgrounds minimal to emphasize that. Not to mention Jeremy has a very good eye on how to make the characters even more handsome/beautiful than before.
This has all the hallmarks of a spectacular series in the making with only two issues out I mean this is already shaping up to be the one to watch.
