After losing the Twelve Colonies, is there anything left for humanity to lose? Plenty — and as a trap is sprung, Commander Adama faces his worst nightmare since taking the lead of the fleet. Can Apollo and Starbuck discover their mysterious foes’ secrets in time?
So having grown up with this franchise in it’s original run along with Space 1999 and having seen reruns of Star Trek with my Pop my love for the genre started very early in my life. There are some things that people will try to reimagine for a new generation and that’s fine the homage is nice and as we’ve seen it was incredibly well done but nothing, nothing can replace the original in my heart so to see this group of creators bringing this to life as they are makes me incredibly happy.
So the writing for this has been sensational. I love the way this is structured and how John Jackson (not to be confused with John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt) has been using the story & plot advancement here to get us from point A. to where we are. Also perhaps (perhaps perhaps and if don’t know the song well…) because of the way the writing is and how strong the words and ideas that here are I think we can see those clues that have been planted coming to fruition here. I knew that something along these lines was going to occur there were certain things that didn’t sit well with me and maybe that’s because I listen to what is being said, on the page or between the lines who knows for sure.
The characterisation in these pages with these characters old and new is so phenomenal. Being able to connect with these characters in the way we do brings a more personal touch to the story and I have to say that it makes the reader feel more a part of the story when you feel as if it’s your friends you are reading about. It is quite the feat to be able to write a story in that manner and I love that I can both feel like a kid again marvellous at the wonders of the universe and what it may hold while also seeing them as equals now.
Daniel’s an amazing artist and illustrator and to see him be able to bring this to life with this beautiful linework is sensational. The attention to detail that he’s able to create with these varying weights is stunning to me. I am always in awe how he is able to bring such wonderful size and scope to his work and how it expands the story. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a stupendous eye for storytelling. That we get to see the backgrounds utilised as they are is effective in bringing space to life and showing off the size and scope to the story, though let’s see more inside the ship shall we? God the colours here are stunning and gosh darnnit the way space looks is completely wow stuff.
Whether you grew up with this version or not this is a sensational series to get into it. The writing here is strong and powerful with some sensational characterisation. The story & plot development with the pacing make this a fast paced, fun, interesting take on seeing the Galactica experiencing new things as they traverse the universe. Dynamite really has a knack for finding the right talent for bringing these franchises to light.
