Charmed Season 10 #8

Zenescope Entertainment 2014

Written by Pat Shand

Illustrated by Dimat

Together, the Halliwell sisters have access to the greatest source of pure magic the world has known: the Power of Three. But now that their eldest sister Prue has been resurrected, a strange magic threatens to tear them apart.

Knox is back. Leo’s life is on the line. Prue’s getting all sorts of creepy. And a new, horrible, decidedly Old villain rises…

There’s always a good time for a one and done story especially when it ties in to what has been going on previously.  Before Cole’s death he and Leo went to see Knox and they struck a deal and now Knox is here to call in the favour of the Charmed Ones for Leo’s soul.  Sometimes a character like Knox comes along and he’s piece of work alright but he’s also not really the bad guy or the good guy just an opportunist whose personality of being out for himself rubs people the wrong way and yet whenever he shows up you are kind of glad because something is going to happen.

So the revelation of what Leo and Cole negotiated with Knox comes to life.   Only now Knox needs the girls help becuase he himself has a soul agreement only his is with a foe the girls have vanquished before Gaxageal.  We learn the circumstances of Knox soul agreement as well as his background the son of a witch and a warlock and how when things at home went sour whom he turned to for magical guidance.

After a long absence Aldar Kose returned and wanted to resurrect the old ones and was going to use his school to do it.  Knox runs his school for all students of a magical nature, good bad or in between doesn’t matter in his own way he cherishes life and the differences we all possess and Kose is a threat to that and the students at Knox Academy.   Knox needs their help or with the return of the old ones things will descend into chaos.

I have to admit I rather enjoy seeing them all going off to do what they do best and try to reconoiter the scene and get in touch with contacts looking for answers.  The only hiccup comes from Prue whose isolation and abandonment at the hands of her sisters looks likes it is coming to a boil.  It’s a story that will have to be told sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile Piper goes to talk to Kose and things go from bad to worse.   The fight at Knox Academy doesn’t go as planned but the end result is the same.   Knox saves his students and while seemingly dies Leo doesn’t so there’s that little bit of conundrum but the girls have a habit of not looking too deeply into things.

This is a fun issue it feels like a classic television episode complete with a roundabout win and then not thinking about why.  Knox isn’t gone or Leo would be as well so that means we haven’t seen the last of him and i’m kind of excited about that but then there’s the whole what did Kose do to him and how much will he have changed?

Convergence Justice League of America #1 (of 2)

DC Comics 2015

Written by Fabian Nicieza

Illustrated by Crisscross

Coloured by Snakebyte

I am one of the minority that loved the Detroit iteration of the League I thought by taking these unknown characters with not so groundbreaking powers is what a team book is all about, teamwork makes them stronger than their individual selves could be.  Plus the change was at the time fresh and new and exciting and they were young and Gypsy quickly became one of my absolute favorite characters.   So when I saw this on the shelf I had to have it.

I’ll tell you what I noticed about this issue that I haven’t seen in other books i’ve read and that is this one doesn’t waste the reader’s time.  Fabian decided to just get into it they’ve been depowered for a year the dome is down they have their powers back so let’s get to business.  None of that whiny stuff happening and by using Sue to narrate what’s happening and describe her husband and his teammates well it brought back the love I had for this time in comics history.

Don’t care why the team isn’t in Detroit but in Gotham doesn’t matter to me.  Sue working with Commissioner Gordon is utterly fantastic!  Seeing the characters actions upon regaining their powers is done smartly and with the expedience of the upcoming threat in mind, that they will have to battle to survive.  So Ralph takes the kids, sans Gypsy, to a gym to train, Sue’s narration tells us what each character did while depowered so there really is no need for backtracking, while the rest try to scope out the city and assess where the threat may come from.

It doesn’t take long for the opposing team to make itself known and they started by bringing the building Ralph, Vibe, Vixen and Steel were training in down on their heads.   The Tangent Universes Secret Six have come to town to win, but not at the cost of innocent lives.  The end of the issue is what you dream of the Secret Six thought they’d taken the League out but the rise agian is stellar fashion and once the big three, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and Zatanna join them we’ll see one heck of a battle.  This is the kind of stuff that this League was great for beating the odds and proving there was more to them than met the eye.

Aside from a writer like Fabian’s contributions, which are immense here, Crisscross does some incredibly good work on the interiors.  It takes more than getting the costumes right to really give them their Vibe back, see what I did there, and the atmosphere, mood, look and feel of the characters really brings you back to better times.  I never thought this team got the credit they deserved and here Fabian and Crisscross showcase that they indeed are team to be reckoned with.

Forget Convergence for a moment because honestly I don’t understand it, the whole super-hero fight club thing going on in a Pre-Crisis time period, if you will.  This is what longtime readers want to see the old long forgotten past being brought back to prominence and significance again.  Instead of this swept under the carpet it’s here once again and done in a really respectful and delightful way.

Ivar, Time Walker #4

Valiant Entertainment 2015

Written by Fred Van Lente

Illustrated by Clayton Henry

Coloured by Brian Reber

Last issue Neela left Ivar stranded in prehistoric times after blowing up at him for his keeping of secrets.   This issue we see when Neela decided to show up in time, Feb 9, 2001 she was still wearing the Nazi uniform and had the Welrod which she promptly found a buyer for and went about her business.   Now decked out in camouflage and with a new car Neela heads for the place where she is going to try to do what she wanted to do in the first place save her father.

Before she can get underway however she’s grab and pulled into a bar that is filled with well herself.  The place is packed with time displaced versions of herself and boy none of them seem to be able to get along.   It’s interesting because we’ve all heard so many times that a person cannot exist simultaneously in the space time continuum without possibly destroying the world but here Fred rewrites the rules and stresses the fact that Ivar was right.  Regardless of how much you want to do something the Universe really won’t let you, what is meant to be is meant to be.

Understandably Neela is angry at Ivar but what we see here aside from determination is that her anger seems to be blinding her and causing her to rush her actions.  The more she becomes frustrated the more things go awry.  She needs to be level headed now more than ever but she can’t handle that.  Fred’s characterization here is phenomenal you can feel and see, thanks to Clayton, her pain and agony of this time period.  The loss of a parent through something that could have been prevented by future knowledge but at the time is unknown is just gut wrenching.

Something unexpected does happen in this issue though and the fact Fred does it without warning or that we don’t see the planning or thinking behind it makes it all the more spectacular.   Then seeing how the Universe decides to take action and how everthing this issue is self contained and in one issue amazes me.  Fred went there and takes you to a most unexpected place and you sit and think damn.

We see Ivar if only for a bit but he knows what he has to do and that’s gather his brothers and take the fight Oblivi-1.  Which thanks to the last few pages isn’t going to be as easy as he thinks.  Though the bartender where all the Neela’s are yeah he’s kept his cool throughout all this pretty nicely and he’s kind of funny to boot his reactions and dialogue makes ya chuckle among all the madness.

Clayton’s interior artwork with colours by Brian really does some great stuff.  There are so many shades of Orphan Black happening among the Neela’s but everything is done so well here.  The emotion he coaxes out of readers from his work here is a testament to what is possible by an artist.

Valiant should really be proud of the talent they have and the quality of the put out in the world and they’ve quickly come back and have become a real powerful voice in the market.

Convergence Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes #1 (of 2)

DC Comics 2015

Written by Stuart Moore

I am a longtime Legion fan, it’s the second comic book I ever purchased on my own so this was one of the books I was very excited about when the whole convergence thing was announced.  So i’ll start right off by saying what I am not happy about and that’s the interior artwork.  Nothing about it makes think of DC in general or the Legion it’s very much childish and generic something a high school student can easily do.  So that this was what DC approved of for this tells me that this franchise is something that Dan Didio cares absolutely nothing about.

I’m not even sure that Stuart understands the characters either.  While I really loved seeing Ayla and Clark’s conversation and her calling him out for being selfish what I didn’t understand is why she was thinking of Timber Wolf.  This is after Darkseid and after Karate Kid died meaning Ayla regained her Lightning powers and then took up with Violet so why was she pining after Brin?  Is their relationship being written out of history as well?   I know this is pre-Crisis but seriously what happened to what’s been established?  I do think that the time this group of Legionnaires having been trapped under the dome having changed their relationship with one another as Ayla and Clark seem to demonstrate is an interesting development but we’ll leave that alone for now.

There’s no set-up here for what’s happening it’s more like a 90210 soap opera episode where kids on the verge of adulthood struggle to find their way with one another.  There’s a flash of hope when Invisible Kid and Shadow Lass want to do some Legion Espionage Squad stuff but that’s snuffed out quickly when they are called to see who has arrived in the city.

I do wish we’d had have some kind of explanation as to why so few Legionnaires were in Metropolis when this happened not that this isn’t a great grouping because it is but still more information would’ve been nice for background information and confirmation as to when in the Legion’s timeline this has supposedly happened.   I love that we are getting the Legion again for a story where most of the team is missing but Superboy is the one they turn to for leadership and guidance and even Brainy is accepting this decision and that’s nice to see.

I really don’t know what to make of this as a longtime Legion lover having them back in any form is wonderful but to be honest i’m lost.  I have no real idea what convergence is about other than super-hero fight club winner gets a future.  This whole thing for DC is in my humble opinion one of the biggest busts and acts of idiocy the company has done under Didio’s guidance and with his track record that’s really saying something.

The Positives

There’s a Legion book on the shelves and there’s decent characterization.

The Negatives

The interior artwork, characters outfits change page to page, some look like they are wearing diapers and there’s no anatomical accuracy.

Overall

A piss poor showing that doesn’t do much to explain anything and artwork I regret paying for i’d pass on this unless you must have all Legion appearances to date.

Drones #1

IDW Publishing 2015

Written by Chris Lewis

Illustrated by Bruno Oliveira

Coloured by Anderson Cabral

I guess it was only a matter of time before a book like this came out.  Drones have gone from a curiosity to an everyday part of life and while most are used for military purposes many are civilian owned.  This book focuses on the Military aspect of using drones instead of manned pilots to carry out surveillance pinpointing where IED’s and possible terrorists are located so a strike may occur with the most effectiveness.  What I found interesting here is the fact that in the news we never hear of the people who operate the drones but in this book right off the bat that’s the main focus here.

I have to give credit here too because the interior artwork is rather impressive.  I mean going from a regular view to one that is all in green as if through a mechanical lens or night vision it’s pretty powerful.  It’s like using a dark paper and using white and green to create a negative where the dark parts are used instead of the light it’s great stuff.

Well what would any story be without a prohibited love affair?  Enlisted personnel and officers shall not fraternize and all that jazz, not that I think that’s ever really been followed.   Actually the whole time you see them together it’s interesting the characterization is really good and comes in unexpected ways it’s not straightforward and not quite pillow talk and well filming it well that used to be kinky but isn’t anymore.   Still it’s interesting to see the behind the drones and see them from different points of view.

Then there’s the usual portrayal of a madman at some undisclosed location.  Cool name Swords of Doom training camp where they will learn how destroy the infidels but seriously I would’ve like to see him smarter and more with it than getting all angry right off the bat in front of his people.   Not all of the should be portrayed like this organizations like Isis have incredibly level headed people in charge to pull off what they have been.   It’s easy to fall back on a religious mad man to showcase the enemy but let’s be smarter than that shall we.

When we turn our attention back to our lovebirds.  Where a big man with a big beard is spotted by Lani and things get well weird after that.  These folks are government workers, military personnel and the Big Beard from her reaction is some sort terrorist or person of interest as it were and when she tries to follow him she gets kidnapped.   They try to kidnap Stinger as well but that goes awry since he’s military, breaking faa regulations and has a plane in the air but what happens next kind of get my goat.   Now I understand that people do a lot of things for kicks but now we aren’t even sure if this is a legitimate kidnapping or some kind of game and i’m a little perplexed.  I suppose that’s a good thing considering I now want to see what happens next issue and have what I just saw explained.  Perhaps it’s just me but I don’t understand the fake kidnapping appeal but with these characters can it really be fake?

This isn’t your normal story, yet.  So i’m here for a bit and we’ll see where it goes and how the book focuses on drones and their military importance against terrorist organizations and if those organizations have managed to gain a foothold in the U.S..   Took a roundabout manner to get me really hooked into this but it did for now.

Solar Man of the Atom #11

Dynamite Entertainment 2015

Written by Frank J. Barbiere

Illustrated by Jonathan Lau

I have no idea why more people aren’t talking about this series.   Frank has been telling one of the best legacy books on the market period.  Not only that but Erica embodies everything a strong female lead character should be and yet it seems she’s largely passed over in women in comics discussions and that needs to change.  She has made this revival what it is today and that’s one of the most interesting books available.   Frank and Jonathan have made Erica my favorite heroine with her indominate will, moments of wavering faith and unbridled determination not to mention the most realistic depiction of a woman in a suit.

This issue starts off with a young Erica wanting her mommy to help her go to speak but instead has her dad and you see the relationship they have.   A father and daughter’s bond is a special thing but it doesn’t always stay that way.  As she grew he was gone more and more and wrapped up in not only his work but his alter ego as Solar Man of the Atom and now we see them at odds with one another as Erica struggles to figure out how to stop a cadre of nuclear missiles from destroying the world.  What an utterly fantastic transition as these two very headstrong individuals find common ground and reignite that former bond.

Meanwhile Spektor and Colin find themselves in something of a situation themselves.  Turns out Dave, Erica’s husband has some seriously bad juju with him and he’s there not for answers but to wreck havoc.  Colin of course knows his opponent as Nuroi but we see him take on a very different visage one that looks like Erica’s outfit only all black.  While i’m not entirely thrilled that this all looks like the Shazam family it does make telling the players apart incredibly easy.

He does serve another purpose though and it seems that either of his children could inherit the power of the atom it was only Erica at that time since she was there.  Still the way Frank is able to tell this story and Spektor’s help with temporarily defeating Dark man of the Atom is done in such a way that you see there will a huge story reveal that will take time to uncover.  We’re getting bits and pieces yes and his desire to claim all the power Erica possess for himself and why will hopefully not be done too quickly because it gives us a better chance of not only learning about him but about how her powers work as well.

The fight between them is kind of epic and is a huge learning curve for her and it really does become evident she needs to learn to fight more and should she focus on that she could end up being one of the most feared opponents ever.  The final page reveal well that’s going to have some repercussions and I look forward to seeing how that plays out.

I’ve rarely seen a book with this much unlimited potential in not only it’s characters and their development but power wise as well.  The power is as much unexplored as is Erica’s character and the endless possibilities here are so exciting and fresh that as a reader I hunger for more information and look forward each month to seeing what’s going to happen.

Jonathan is an unheralded master of his craft.  What he can do here on paper really is so spectacular with the look and feel of the characters and the emotions they exude to the use backgrounds and page layouts and panel progression it all just synch’s the story to the words so expertly.

People need to remember when it comes to superheroes the so called big two aren’t the only ones out there because Dynamite has struck gold with this series!

Clive Barker’s Nightbreed #12

Boom-Studios 2014

Written by Marc Andreyko

Illustrated by Emmanuel Xerx Javier

What a rollercoaster ride this story has been but the maxi-series is finally at an end and that makes me happy and sad at the same time.   Over the past year we’ve gotten to see Boone’s journey unfold before our eyes from a man lost, running and searching for where he belongs in the world.  He’s faced trials and tribulations aplenty to get to where he is now and it appears not even death was ready to claim him.   Marc’s interpretation of Clive Barker’s classic story has laid the groundwork and opened up a whole new world ready to be explored.

I really rather enjoyed seeing Boone’s re-emergence into the world.  As a part of the Nightbreed it seems those wounds are forever etched into his body and that’s interesting to me.  Though really I guess this is Boom and penis shots are out of the question because seeing him in the void naked as he was escaping death as his body was finally healed so he could rejoin his people was great stuff.  Still in this day and age i’m a little surprised at the hesitation to show a man’s penis I mean c’mon now.

One of the great things about this series is the Breed the different people who we’ve meet and have only seen peripherally.  The imagination that we see here from Emmanuel bringing them to life has been extraordinary some downright frightening others beautifully creepy but all of them full of life showing us that looks don’t define a person it’s what inside that does.  I do hope we see more of these characters now in mini-series detailing more of their origins for certain individuals by Emmanuel and Marc.

You just can’t keep a good villain down can you and Ashberry has plagued them for far too long.  His grit and determination to end his own suffering by ending the Breed has reached a fevered pitch.   It really is full of irony what his ultimate fate is, Hey Alanis this what Ironic means!  So I have to say he’ll forever be a testament to Boone and the fact that he is meant to be Cabal and his rule of the Breed hopefully starts with a long peaceful run.  Though let’s hope not because I want to see more of these characters and the next chapter in their lives as people come to seek them out to either destroy, praise or join them.  Maybe we’ll get another person whose journey needs to bring him/her to Boone and his people.

Actually this issue has a lot going on and while it wraps up the current story very nicely it does leave itself wide open for more stories down the road.  Boone was in a coma for eight months in a caccoon healing, so his hair got longer but he didn’t grow any facial hair which seems to odd to me but i’ll roll with it.  Also that he ran around looking for Lori completely naked and all we get is one nice butt shot yeah that’s disappointing as well.  Still we rarely get such a happy ending as this one brought to us.  Family isn’t who you are born into it is who you surround yourself with, those who accept you flaws and all and will go to the four corners for you, won’t sugar coat things and when you find those people you fight to keep them in your life.  It’s a wonderful message and in this day and age one more important than ever before.

Shahrazad vol.1 #2

Big Dog Ink/Aspen Comics 2015

Written by Kim Hutchison & Kari Castor

Illustrated by Mike Krome

Coloured by Nei Ruffino

Volume one is once again available and hopefully to more readers than ever before thanks to Big Dog Ink becoming a part of Aspen Comics because while this series is definitely something different it’s also contains some of the most beautiful artwork around.   I fully admit that while I read pretty much everything else Big Dog put out this one escaped me and I’m glad I now have the opportunity to get to know this remarkable woman and see her story.

There’s something magical about a world where giant bats are used as a mode of transportation for the crew launched from a metal carrier ship, a place where mermaids are on the loose living up to their horrific reputation of luring sailor’s to their deaths and the surprise of whom else is on this world, a God long forgotten by many but once upon a time worshiped.

I will be the first to admit that i’m something of an art snob I like it clean, detailed and breathtaking.  Mike’s linework, page layout and use of not only backgrounds but the little details such as a bookmark or a the feather plume used to write and draw all coloured in such a dynamic way by Nei that you can’t help but look at this and think holy crap this some good stuff.  The colourist is sometimes underrated in comics but here Nei’s blending of light to dark and use of high and low lighting just really make the difference to enhance the incredible line work done by Mike.

The mermaid they captured killed the captain, a position now held by Shahrazad, and someone wants to seemingly eliminate this creature and it isn’t one of the crew, though would love to see her destroyed.   Two headed vultures with nose rings yeah these are creature you don’t see every day that’s for sure they have to be someones, nose rings after all aren’t just found in birds in the wild.   We do learn that whomever controls the voices of the sirens three, controls the road to infinity.  Now the big question is who controls them?

As the story unfolds we see the emergence of a great threat to Shahrazad and her way of life and the lives of her crew.  Also in an attempt to get off the island they are stranded on we see the girl has plenty of smarts to her which is why she was second in command and now Captain.   I have to admit the island looks like a paradise and not a bad place to be stranded but they take flight on the bats and go off in search of where those vultures were headed.  They need to perch somewhere and more than likely this will lead them to their master.

If things were to go as planned they wouldn’t be as fun now would they?   I’m incredibly impressed with all the mixing of items from different era’s and the magical aspect of what goes on as well as seeing the fantasy, think giant flying bats, put together in such a way that it all seems just so natural.  The characterization is delightful, the way the story unfolds is excellent pacing and what we see keeps things fresh and new because you aren’t sure why anything is happening yet.  So the surprise element here is a huge draw for me.

With some of the most beautiful artwork, including on both the men and women, with a great premise and some mystery thrown in this is why we look towards smaller press companies to find the truly exceptional reads.

Divinity #3

Valiant Entertainment 2015

Written by Matt Kindt

Penciled by Trevor Hairsine

Inked by Ryan Winn

Coloured by David Baron

Abram Adams was sent by the Soviets to the farthest reaches of space where he was transformed from what he was, a man, into something else someone with the power of a god and he’s returned to Earth where in the Australian Outback he’s made a small section of paradise.  When a being of unknown origin and power arrives the powers that be become scared of his intentions and send Unity to investigate the being known as Divinity.

There really is something just incredibly unique and rare about this story.   Granted there is the same old aspect of fear from the unknown coming from the governments but really the focus is Abram and his journey and what he endured while out in space.  Matt gives bits and pieces of his journey while we see him on Earth creating a small paradise and remembering his life.   Very carefully Matt balances the remembering the man he was and still wishes to be with his new reality.   I’m still on the fence on whether or not he’s truly benevolent but I’m waiting as the story to unfold to really decide because there’s still something inside him that’s human and that could be either disastrous or his saving grace.

Trevor, Ryan and David do some absolutely incredible work here.  I mean from the space suits, like we’ve never seen before, to the swirling colours of space to the intense detail we see in the characters it’s just some of the most eye catching stuff we see today.  I love the use of page layouts and backgrounds here too they work in ways that help keep the focus of the story moving right along.

Aside from the background information about Abram himself this issue focuses on Ninjak too.  Now it seems that there is some kind of time displacement powers in play as the meeting with Unity and Divinity goes south very quickly as the group attacks they are sent off on their own away from each other.  While we see them in action poses as they attack we also see them going on solo adventures as if they’ve been displaced to wander and survive alone.  This could be real time displacement or it could just be mental and that’s the focus of Ninjak’s discovery.

It seems that at some point in his training by undead monk he is able to focus his mind so that he can break free of Divinity’s manipulations.  This is just another reason why Ninjak remains one of the most popular characters in the Valiant Universe, his ever growing character development.  Even better however is the fact that while we see this we see the moment of transformation when Abram became Divinity.  This dual storytelling keeps the information flowing and make us look at what’s going on and try to figure out for ourselves just what kind of powers he now possesses.

The revelation that Abram didn’t go into space alone is huge and the ramifications of what happened to them will be a game changer down the road but in the meantime it’s more of his desire to come home to the pregnant girlfriend he left behind.  Pay attention to the story here because the time he’s been in space is told so when we see his family on the last page more questions arise and they too could have a dramatic impact on Abram.

There is such smart storytelling going on here and you have to pay attention to what you are reading or you’ll miss the small clues throughout.  This is the kind we love about Matt’s writing too it’s so complex and involved and the characters have sweeping tales that don’t follow a set pattern.  Making this another reason why Valiant is on the forefront of great stories.

Manifest Destiny #14

Skybound/Image Comics 2014

As crazy as this sounds I want to be exploring this wilderness with Lewis & Clark because this world is utterly crazy, fascinating and terrifying.   Well I don’t want the blue bear bird creature to take a bite outta my arm like it does Mister Etten but for the opportunity to see a world like this i’d jump at the chance.    The imagination runs wild here and even though some it is incredibly alien in nature it’s all so vivid and alive.

Alright there are moments that are humorous and they are meant to be and teh dialogue here is utterly fantastic.  As the guys don’t want the bird harmed if possible no one really wants to go near it but they do end up bagging it and getting it off him.  It’s the little things that make or break a book and here they all work together to create something special.   The interior artwork and facial expressions with the wounds we see as well as the trees, the colours all of it together help complete the story.

Meanwhile there’s something serious wrong with Sacajawea.   Yes she’s pregnant but there’s something more going on here and whether that’s due to the land of the wildlife we don’t know but it adds something darker to the story that is unexpected.   While the Doctor wants to keep an eye on her it’s Clark that well seems more concerned than Sacajawea.  The way these characters are written and the dialogue is so done so that we get a sense of who they are and while they might not all get along their interaction is just so superbly written.   You get a sense of family, dysfunctional to say the least or just because they’ve spent this much time together in life threatening situations that there’s a real familiarity between them.

Also Lewis narration through his journal really goes a long way fleshing out characters, situations and predicaments they all find themselves in.  It’s wonderful tool really and the way Chris does it because you see it’s his words, Lewis’, and his unique viewpoint.   While he dozes he really hope that none of the crew kill the little creature and it’s Sheets who is on guard and well he disappears during his shift.  If you need to see what takes him get the book but if this is what the little guy grows up to be then oh snap!   Yeah uhm Matthew and Owen if I dream about this tonight i’m blaming you two!

Oh Pryor is the man who thinks he should be in charge of this expedition and well here he gets his chance to challenge the pair for control.   He has his own faction behind him, the soldiers they were forced to take on and there’s one Finn Fricke who is well a brute of a man and very much a woah daddy type.  So how this confrontation will play out we’ll have to wait till next issue.   Maybe this series restarted a trend to tell historical fiction using real characters and putting them in situations they could never have.

This is very much to me groundbreaking material.  It’s gorgeously rendered and expertly told and it’s high on my list of all time favorite series.
