Meet Cheryl Blossom--she's got money, attitude and charm, and when she wants something, she gets it--even if that something is Archie Andrews himself!
What would n 80th Anniversary be without Riverdale's other infamous ginger fatale? With the Riverdale series an unequivocal success and with the talent, grace and beauty of Madelaine Petsch bringing her to life, Cheryl Blossom has become more popular and beloved than she's ever been before. Cheryl is the character we love to hate and yet in all honesty we don't hate her all, it's all love for the scheming self-centred ginger. She is always the centre of attention, of which she creates so she can be, and you know the moment you see here that the ensuing antics are going to be so much fun to see and read.
I am in love with the way that this is being told. The story & plot development we see through how the sequence of events unfold and how the reader learns information is presented perfectly. Each vignette we see has the same kind of tone, mood and feel to it and they each seem to represent a formulae that is unspoken to having. Still the way we see things occur and how we think they are going to unfold versus how the actually do well that's something else entirely. The character development we see here is phenomenal! Personalities never really change here, that being said we do see more and more aspects of their personalities.
This is the kind of book that regardless of my mood I am uplifted after reading this. I also love the face that Cheryl is one of those characters who was chosen to receive a spotlight. I wish Kevin Keller had one as well as he is THE groundbreaking character in comics. Still I wonder if she wasn't so popular thanks the television series if she'd have this one.
I love the interiors here! The Archie style of work just oozes comfort and joy and it has that instant familiarity to it that brings a smile to the face. I adore the fashions we see from all the different eras the stories take place in. Hairstyles to boot, th5ere aren't any of the slightest little details that aren't overlooked. The linework is gorgeous and the way it can remain so consistent and still show off all this amazing attention to detail. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show such masterful eyes for storytelling. The colour work and how it remains true to the original four colour imprint just really brings this to a whole new level of awesomeness.
These stories all focus on the typical life of Cheryl Blossom and how she goes about life thinking of herself. We all know someone who is like this whether or not we want to admit that or actually tell them so. Also once upon a time it was Veronica who stole the spotlight of being rich and gorgeous until a rival in Cheryl hit the scene. Now she's the bad girl we all wanna love or have as a best friend and this issue completely demonstrates why. She may just be the most complicated character in the Archie world.
