The zombie virus has hit Earth and wiped out most of the population with terrifying speed. As a team of alien scientists races to stop the spreading plague, their ship is struck and plummets to the chaos below. They must quickly reorganize and find the broken pieces of their ship containing vital equipment in order to save the planet before they’re overwhelmed by hordes of human zombies.

I’m a fan of this book right now.  I do like the whole premise behind the story with a zombie virus coming to Earth from outer space and a group of intergalactic hunters hot on it’s trail trying to stop it.  What’s not to love about the mixing of science fiction with a good old fashioned zombie story?  Vincenzo and Grostieta have a wonderful opportunity to flex their creative muscles here with depictions of alien landscapes, worlds and beings alongside some iconic zombie looks.

Last issue the aliens arrived too late to stop the start of the zombie virus and when they attempted to stop it something went horribly wrong and the cure is still viable but currently out their reach.  Now they are stuck on the streets surrounded by a zombie horde.  Nova leaps into action spurred on by the memory we see that opens this book and then follows woman and her little girl.

So it’s time to spotlight the folks the woman and child have gone to see, and hide with from all that’s happening.  Actually it makes a lot of sense for these guys to be who they are, not military or police but quite adept at planning and violence.  There’s one guy in the crew who has that classic Hollywood bad boy look to him complete with stubble.  He’s smart, savvy and has these people pretty much under control and when the alien force comes a callin it doesn’t seem to really phase him and he instantly sees the benefits in working with them.  Taking over leadership easily enough he has that kind of personality about him.

I’m actually really impressed with the way Joe’s telling this story.  There’s plenty of yes this is happening and more hinted at or behind the scenes possibilities making this interesting.  This looks like it’s the beginning of a human/alien alliance that could possibly end the zombie virus if they can work together and get it done before most of them succumb to the infected populace.  There’s really nice characterization going on in this issue and in the story advancement as well.

The combination of the story telling along with the really strong well detailed interior artwork make this a decidedly unique fun look at the zombie story.  This really is a great melding of two genres into a new one that hasn’t been told before.
