Somewhere in the world, a smuggler is trying to deliver a mysterious briefcase to the world’s most deadly terrorists. 007 must get this case and is licensed to kill anyone that gets in his way. This is the story of the man who gets in his way.

Hello Kitty this is something that everyone needs to be aware of. The story that Greg is bringing us is brilliant and how he’s structured it is exciting! The characters old and new are being fleshed out in ways that intrigue the reader, pique the curiosity and the reader will instantly find those they like and those they don’t as the characterisation is that strong. I have no idea why more people are talking about the James Bond books coming out of Dynamite because they really do feel as if they are in the vein of Ian Fleming’s vision of the characters.

The opening is sensational as the narration for the visuals that we see is exceptionally well done. The past is never something to forget or ignore and when someone else can talk of an experience that you’ve had you need to listen and learn. Though with Bond it’s more that’s you not me and he’s a little too arrogant for his own good and that’s why we love him. Still how the opening ties the first issue in and how it is important to what is to come is amazing to see in play.

The characterisation here really is stellar stuff. So this version of M is someone I could never really like but that’s okay, at least the female version could be harsh and critical of James without it coming across like a cliché but this one is a cliché in so many ways and none of them good in my eyes. Still that I feel so profoundly about a fictional character is because Greg has written him this way. It is amazing how we can interpret the same thing different ways but each truth is our own and none of them are wrong. It isn’t just how we see M either because every character within these pages is incredibly well fleshed out to make them as human as possible which is a feat unto itself.

The interior artwork here is stupendous! Marc is probably one of the most underrated artists in the industry what this man can do with the varying weights of the linework is amazing. The attention to detail that be brings to this whether it is in the faces and facial expressions, Armourer for instance I mean wtf, or our Asian friend getting out of the shower, sweet Jesus, Mary and Josephine is he one fine specimen of a man I almost drooled seeing that. Though some armpit hair and a happy trail would’ve sent me over the edge. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off one of the best eyes for storytelling period. That backgrounds are utilised as they are to expand the moment or bring us the size and scope of the story is absolutely perfect. With the colours, that blue shirt with the trees—good golly miss molly, and the shading, highlight and use of light sources these interiors are the top of heap in this business.

The pacing is incredible and the ebb & flow of the story and how information is revealed and how we see James getting into and out of these situations feels ordinary. Do not undersell ordinary either because what James does is anything but and to make it feel like it’s everyday life that’s something noteworthy.

If you re a James Bond fan this is already on your radar, if you aren’t don’t fret this will make you one or at least make you a fan of this level and quality of storytelling.

Image Comics 2018
Written by Skottie Young

Stowaways! As Abel and Fox tumble out of Farmington they must quickly land on their feet. The protections of home are gone and they find themselves in a hungry, wild new world.

Last issue I wasn’t sure what this was going to be like and I expressed that last time around. I was more than pleasantly surprised and I continue to be with this issue as well. There is definitely a sense of awe and wonder that comes with this and a feeling that mixes how I felt seeing the Wizard of Oz for the first time but there’s also this harshness that I saw in Watership Down and finally there’s this sense of I get from Howl’s Moving Castle. If you can’t the combination of what I just put together then pick up the first two issues, read them and get back to me to tell me how right or wrong I am, yes I am daring you.

The way that this is structured is very nicely done. I love the opening not only does this give us a chance to see more of the inhabitants of this world but we also get to see how much mettle our daring duo on the run have. Skottie has really impressed me with his writing ability here we all know him primarily for his kiddie covers but the fact he’s this multifaceted and gosh darn good at all of it. I am totally into how we are watching the world expand and seeing Abel realise just how big and different the world is from he imagined.

So the timely introduction of Jeb is well executed. He is definitely one of those characters that could provide that mentor aspect that Abel needs but Abel really needs to accept that. Fox is Fox right he’s primarily a trickster sort and he’ll do what he needs to do to survive and with his cunning and roundabout way of revealing information well I think Skottie nails him as a character and that he’s of no help to Abel when it comes to making decisions it really is a great dynamic. Also we are beginning to see more characterisation coming from Abel and it really reminds me of a kid trying to be a grown-up while scared out of his mind. Plus not having any kind of reference on how to behave, accept help and friendship or facing adversity.

With every panel that I see I am falling more and more in love with the work that Jorge and Jean-Francois are doing here. The linework is gorgeous and how they are used with their varying weights to create this attention is mesmerising. The lines in the leaves or how the colour is used to ignite the symbol on Abel’s chest oh and Jeb’s home the creativity and imagination that we see is so sensational. I don’t normally want comics pages in my collection but I want the two-page spread where Jeb welcomes them to his home it’s just that damn good. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a magnificent eye for storytelling. That backgrounds are utilised as they are to expand the moment and bring us a great sense of size and scope. Jean-Francois’s colour work really does bring this to life in ways that just shine.

This is just an utterly spectacular series and it’s only at issue two. The potential for what’s to come is something we can see and almost hold in our hands. The writing is outstanding and the story & plot development, pacing and characterisation along with this mesmerising and gorgeous interior artwork make this one that will make the new year more interesting.

Eddie Endino, Baltimore's crappiest magic-using hustler, is having the worst day! He's been beaten, hunted, and turned into a dog by fascist space wizards. Now, in order to turn human again, Eddie must navigate a magical underground city, make nice with his rat-controlling witch ex-girlfriend, and keep from being killed by the bounty hunters after him and his teenage demon sidekick. Get ready for more magical mayhem from your new favourite comic!

This really is my favourite comic! The way that Rafer writes this is amazing and absolutely love and cannot get over the level of characterisation that we see. I am having so much fun reading this and then there is overall story and the how and why they got together and without us knowing anything really about why Tala has this obscene bounty on her head, which by extension includes Eddie now. Honestly the way that this has been written is such that I want to learn about everything the same time that Tala does. For me anyway this is half the fun now learning about it before the characters do and it keeps that interest factor ramped up.

So the pair have to walk the streets of Baltimore to figure out where they are going next and well Eddie may a dog but that doesn’t he doesn’t wanna be dressed. Oh sweet man behind the curtain that reveal was amazing and this is a big part of the charm of the book. The unexpected moments alongside those that are somewhat expected together make this the kind of series that you look forward to since you never know what’s going to happen or when. The way this is structured and the overall ebb and flow of the book is as smooth silk and you get swept up in this with a sense of excitement which is rare.

I love the way that new characters are introduced to us. I like that Tala looks so much like her mother that at first glance she can be mistaken for her. Also that her mum was so well known, for better or for worse, is an interesting part of the story and one that Tala has no idea about. That she really is so lost in this new world she finds herself in and her innocence really is refreshing in ways you have to experience to understand.

The interior artwork is amazing and Mike’s ability to bring this kind of attention to detail through manipulating the varying weights of the linework is awe inspiring. The way we see these individuals and then Eddie or the bounty hunter with a mask reminiscent of the old time Death Doctor’s is some great emotion evoking work. Having all that balanced with the humour that comes from Eddie and Mike showcases why I think he’s one of today’s top illustrators. The utilisation of page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows us a masters eye for storytelling. I also like the way that we see backgrounds being utilised as well they really help expand the moments and give us this great size and scope of the story to us.

We live in a time where people leave where they were and create companies or outlets for their work and the work of others to be seen. Albatross is a great place to see the Goon and now Grumble adds another element to their line. This is why I keep telling you folks that you need to start looking outside the usual 2 or 3 companies you are afraid to leave because the better told, higher quality stories are being told all around, not to mention right freakin here!

With some stellar writing and stunning interior artwork Grumble will become your new Magnificent Obsession.

Bloodshot Rising Spirit #2
Valiant Entertainment 2018
Written by Kevin Grevioux
Breakdowns by Ken Lashley
Finishes by Ryan Winn & Oliver Borges

Lettered by Simon Bowland

Before there was salvation, before he was reborn, there was Rising Spirit…A paramilitary corporation on the forefront of death and destruction, Project Rising Spirit was a pioneer in advanced weaponry and scientific innovation. Their crowning achievement was Bloodshot, a nanite-enhanced super soldier who could heal from any wound, overpower any threat, and execute any mission. But the same nanites that gave him his incredible abilities also allowed Project Rising Spirit to rewrite his memories – turning him into the perfect soldier at the cost of erasing his past. The only problem? The memory engram's won’t take. Bloodshot’s system keeps rejecting them, causing the brilliant scientists of The Bloodshot Program to grow more and more desperate…

I love that we open up with a scientific approach complete with all the jargon. Actually throughout the whole issue we see that science is utilised and how that comes across and how at least one character needs it translated to gorilla so that to me is utterly delightful. It lends that air of credence that this is first and foremost a project and that the man whomever he is pre and post memory alteration isn’t a man but a weapon to be pointed and unleashed. It is cold, cruel and quite honestly one of the most fascinating looks that we’re getting in the franchise thus far.

The way that the book is structured is stupendous, there is no way that this could have been done any better. The opening is one that grabs your attention and starts off the action, in terms of both physical and mental, that permeates throughout the issue. I was so engrossed from page one and that demonstrates to me the strength of what Kevin is capable of doing. He has a sharp mind, solid grasp of what he wants to convey and the skill and talent to bring that to life. I really am extremely impressed with what the level of talent and the quality of work that I see here.

Now alongside all that there is some absolutely dynamite characterisation going on here too. It doesn’t matter how long the character is going to be “on screen” they are still completely fleshed out and some you are sad you don’t get to learn more about. Of course then there are those you so want to see destroyed in every way possible yet somehow you know they are going to be around seemingly forever. It is the trade off though because we need these so-called villains for the antagonist if the story is going to work.

The interiors here are really nice. I like the way that the characters are shown to us. They have a consistency in their faces and regardless of angles we see they look “right” and that’s amazing to me. The level and quality of the artwork here matches that of the story and that sensational. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a very strong eye for storytelling. I love when we see backgrounds being utilised because it does so much to expand the moments, the science of it and the overall size and scope of the book.

This is a thrilling, exciting and dark look at Project Rising Sun and how they took control of the Bloodshot program. To see how all this is at this stage, so far not counting the ones that we met who were those early attempts, and the ruthlessness of the staff makes it even more impressive that Ray is who his today. Valiant knows how to get the creators who can tell these stories about their characters and keep them familiar and yet comes across in band new ways and it’s effin awesome!

Sharksquatch #1
Handwritten Entertainment 2018
Written & Lettered by Shawn Gabborin
Illustrated by Sergio Rios

A pair of amateur film makers and a grizzled hunter find themselves face-to-face with a seldom seen water-based branch of humanity’s family tree… the aquatic ape, the Sharksquatch!

That comics can be fun and for no other reason has been coming back. My grandmother used to call them funnybooks regardless of whether or not they were. This however really the definition of a funnybook and I might be in love with it. For those of who are wondering yes this really is in the vein of a made for SyFy film which let’s face it is a guilty pleasure of everyone so don’t pretend like it’s not. Also we are all fans of Grizzlyshark vs. Seabear so this fits right on in and it’s extremely well done so let’s take a closer look at why.

The concept here is great and the fact that our film makers are in the area to find a Sasquatch until they meet Chief. Right off the bat we are getting some amazing characterisation on Chief and he’s that big game hunter type who we would see as the town eccentric. You wouldn’t say that to him since he’s looking like Crocodile Dundee complete with a big knife. His dialogue here is actually more intelligent than I was expecting and that his Aquatic Ape Theory is legit is even better. That Shawn goes the extra mile and inserts something most of us probably haven’t heard of but is a theory that is out there and it is supported is fantastic! Yes I went it looked it up and now that you’ve heard it you will too, it’s what we do. Guess what if you checked it out then the book taught you something you didn’t know and it’s gotten you to go beyond what’s written and made it resonate with you that much more.

The way the book is structured is great there is a very cinematic flow to the book that makes it seem like the pacing is faster than it actually is. I love the way that characters are introduced and the rate that information and personality traits, faking stuff so they could get “the shot” kind of thing, as well as when the time comes the realisation of the truth. All of those things that we see here is done in such a way that makes sense and feels natural, well as natural as a story like this can be. In a sense it also reminds me of Scooby-Doo animated film which I am sorry but it’s another aspect that I adore beyond belief.

Sergio and Rosa do some absolutely amazing work on the interiors here. The linework is sensational there is a very fine strong hand at work here and it shows in how we see it. Then there are those more delicate lines that show off a softer touch which helps when fleshing out the hair, with the beard on the arms of Chief, and folds of the clothings. Yeah it looks like the clothes they wear are lived in and accurate. The attention to detail is fabulous and the creativity and imagination is utterly delightful. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a stellar eye for storytelling. The colouring is great and really does set that great overall tone, mood and feel of the book.

I am super impressed with this issue. I love Shawn and I love his work so coming into this I expected nothing but to be entertained and he did that and so much more. The story is camp but that’s okay and by being able to infuse legitimate ideas and aspect into it has turned into something more than just mere camp. This is my definition of a funnybook, it’s extremely well written and has delightful interiors there is no way you can wrong with this!

Goliath Girls #01
Comixology Originals 2018
Written by Sam Humphries
Illustrated by Alti Firmansyah
Coloured by Brittany Peer
Lettered by Jodi Wynne

Zelda, Eunice, and Juliet are three best friends: orphans of the Kaiju Generation, and adoptive mothers to their own baby Goliath! For years they've searched for the elusive King of All Goliaths, the one fabled to bring the Forever War to an end. But they're not the only ones on his trail. The fate of the world lies in the hands of three teenaged girls and their pet kaiju, as they fight to save us from the goliaths, and save the goliaths from us.

Okay so sometimes these can be too cutesy for me and I was thinking that maybe this might be as well but then suddenly something happens and I was surprised, interested and intrigued in what was happening. I should have known better though because when does Sam create and do anything that is normal, standard or what you think it’s going to be? I found the way this was structured to be extremely well done and the overall flow of how we see the story unfold with information, twists and turns is so nice to see.

There is something about the premise that we’re seeing here where Kaiju roam the world and it while it doesn’t feel post apocalyptic it also doesn’t feel like the world we know. So that alone is something I find curious and as the book opens and we see the King of All Goliaths I got excited. So the girls base of operations is aboard an abandoned warship in the ice which is in what appears to be a graveyard for abandoned ships. It is little things like that that happen throughout the issue that make the reader sit up and take notice and wonder what kind of world they live in.

I like the characterisation that we see here as well. Even the animals, Kaiju or what have you as well as all the human characters that are introduced all have personalities that emerge in the best or most strange ways and all of it collectively is a thing of joy. Also there are a trio of girls who we see and kind of meet that I cannot wait to see more of as they represent the antithesis of our main trio of shall we say heroes. If this issue is able to introduce characters seemingly at random then I look forward to see what who else is to come. For I cannot believe that we are finished meeting new characters, good and evil.

The interiors here are nice. Yes there are times the anime/manga looks is here and that’s a little mmhmm for me but this isn’t done for me. I love the imagination and creativity that we see in these pages. Mango or Ginger it doesn’t matter who or what they are they are magnificent creatures and they come across as both powerful and gorgeous. The linework is really nice and to see how the varying weights are utilised here to create the attention to detail. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a solid eye for storytelling. Then there is the colour work here and that is sensational as we see the light source and the ways that objects or ice are seen it is completely wow stuff.

Alright so Sam not only manages to write a story that is fun, entertaining and a new take on the Kaiju genre but he also infuses this with his usual spirit and infectious nature. The story is strong, well written with great pacing and characterisation alongside some delightful interior artwork show off the fact that great stories can now be found everywhere.

Geralt is summoned by an old friend to help solve a mystery involving his daughter. Upon arriving to investigate however, Geralt is surprised by another friend from the past and he soon finds himself transported to regions beyond his original expectations.

This is a series that I absolutely adore and the fact that it started as short stories and novels then found it’s way to video games, films, television shows and final graphic novels, see comics, is stupendous! All of this from a nice Polish man. This is such a hit in Poland and Russia and fantasy writers in that region of the world have made this what it is. That it hasn’t hit the United States with that kind of intensity is a tad disappointing but I am here to help spread the word. Well Dark Horse really is but hey semantics right.

If you have never read one of these arcs that’s okay this is an excellent jumping on point. Though if you do join us, which you really should, you’ll want to go back and read the previous arcs. I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed in the slightest! The way this is structured is extremely well done and the opening is superbly done. That we get to see some of the creatures that live in this world that can be akin to cherubs or faerie is great to see and really does grab the readers attention. Seeing this makes you want to see and know more and that is exactly what it should do. It is beautifully creepy and piques the interest and curiosity.

The way the story unfolds is great to see and the introduction of characters, old friends and the reason by Geralt is here come together in a smooth and natural feeling way. There is no feeling of the story feeling forced or people and places, or things, put into this to make it work. To be able to do that is rather impressive to me considering the fantasy aspect of this world. Also the characterisation here is bloody brilliant as well. This extends not only to those that are in the spotlight but also those little characters that we meet along the way. That so many people can be understood, their nature and the kind of folk they are, through words and visuals is very high quality stuff.

Speaking of high quality work the interiors here are mind blowingly good. The strength of the linework that we see is sensational and how it’s manipulated through it’s varying weights to bring this to life looks like it’s done by a strong steady hand. The attention to detail is crazy good and it nearly mesmerises the reader as the eye moves through the panels searching out everything there is to see. Mixing in the colour work, Geralt’s eyes are a perfect example, in and what we see becomes extraordinary. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels demonstrates a superior eye for storytelling. The way that backgrounds are utilised here is stunning and it works to expand the moments and show us the size and scope of the story. Even without the words you could get the gist of what is happening and that should tell you the strength of the interiors here.

The way that this combines story & plot development, uses it’s pacing and has this level of characterisation alongside this beautiful interior artwork and you can see why this franchise is in so much demand in various media. This is a superb example of how a comic series can stand on it’s own and you’d never know it was part of a larger franchise.

Feast or Famine #1
Alterna Comics 2018
Written & Coloured by Dave Swartz
Illustrated by Joseph Cooper
Lettered by Wes Locher

In a dimension parallel to our own, world-renowned inventors Nicholas Teska and Dr. Albalien Stein have discovered a mysterious signal from deep within the cosmos. Believing it to be from an advanced alien race, the two embark on a journey that will change the very fabric of space and time!

I am always a fan of alternate history stories, they are creative, inventive and just all around fun. The chance to take these characters, based on their real life counterparts, and let them unleash their potential in ways that boggles the mind. It is the best way to engage the mind, imagination and creativity while also answering those pesky What If?’s that we all wonder about. So that Dave dove feet first into the deep end without looking back is utterly sensational to see. This is the kind of book that is totally all-ages friendly though some younger members of the audience might need a grown up to explain a thing or two it’s well worth it.

I think the way that this is structured is extremely well done. The opening page is dramatic, interesting and grabs the readers attention and it made me want to see and know more. Then turning to see that two-page spread I was hooked! The way that Dave and Joseph work together and bring us that mad scientist feeling for the age in which it’s set is utterly brilliant to me. This is the kind of stuff that makes an opening to a story as well as a series seem textbook in nature, see perfect example. Also that the names are the same yet different allows that alternate reality or parallel dimension aspect to say yes it’s them but it’s not so I have more artistic licence.

The introduction of characters here is extremely well done. That Teska wants nothing more than to be known throughout history for his inventions gladly works for Edison to start the series. Now as the story moves forward and we see the characterisation begin to take shape, grow bolder and evolve then the relationships between the characters becomes sensational. There are no real good guys or bad guys here it’s not that kind of story for which I am thankful. No it’s about the science, the inventions and the respect wanted in recognition for what they’ve done.

Kaze no Yō ni Hayaku "inuk chuk" and any other phrase you can come up with in exclamation because the interior artwork here is out of this world. The way that we see the varying weights of the linework being manipulated to create this world, these characters and the attention to detail throughout is stunning! There is a confidence in what we see here that is inspiring and instils an immediate liking for the work Joseph is doing here. Plus the faces and how familiar they are is amazing and as a reader I got caught up in this beautifully. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a superb eye for storytelling. That we see backgrounds being utilised to such a degree really expands the moments and brings us a great sense of size and scope to the book. The colours too are completely perfect. The way that light sources are used and the highlights and gradation of colour is very effectively done.

This is only a three issue run and yet the pacing is great even though it feels almost like things move at a frantic pace. So the glossing over of Teska contacting and getting Stein into the picture is unnecessary so in the end what we see is a story that introduces the characters, what they are after and how they are going to go about getting it. With such strong writing, characterisation and plot & story development alongside some beautiful interior artwork I am reminded once again that these are the books that you need to be aware of, have your store ordering them and revelling in the pure unadulterated fun that comics can bring!

The 7 Deadly Sins #1
TKO Studios 2018
Written by Tze Chun
Illustrated by Artyom Trakhanov
Coloured by Giulia Brusco
Lettered & Designed by Jared K. Fletcher

1867. Texas. A group of death row criminals is recruited by a Mexican priest for a suicide mission into Comancheria.

I am not altogether sure when I discovered that Westerns were cool but I think I transitioned to them after reading Warlord and then finding Jonah Hex and of course I couldn’t get enough. Since them I have watched television shows and films in the genre so now it really is something I love. The potential for storytelling and for the characterisation and the situations are seriously unlimited in the size and scope of what’s possible. While Tze doesn’t exactly break new ground here he does understand how to tell a story.

I think the way that this is structured is sensational. The opening here is dynamic, eye-catching and leaves you wonder just what the heck is going on. Yes it’s 1867 and the white and the Native American’s are at war and in such there are some truly heinous things that occurred. That we see some happen here was surprising and brutal however completely honest at the same time. It certainly is more than enough to make the reader want to see more and that is precisely what an opening is supposed to do.

I do like how we meet Father Threadgill and Antonio, not to mention his daughter Grace. Father Threadgill has gone off to a Mission in Cedar Creek leaving Antonio to man the fort as it were. Now I will be honest I have no idea how Father Threadgill manages to have so much money in his safe but I am sincerely hoping with the facts we learn about him he isn’t as crooked as appearances suggest. That however isn’t the story at hand here it something far different. As we soon learn and oh boy I have to give credit where it’s due the way the story unfolds for us is fantastic. The introduction of a key character and subsequently how he becomes a central figure is definitely not what what I was expecting but it’s fascinating nonetheless.

The characterisation here is wonderful to see. Not just in our main characters but pretty much in everyone we meet. It is great to see that such attention is given all around and not just on those who the story revolves around. Here we can see Tze’s influence in how writing television program’s has benefited him in these pages.

Artyom has a very distinct style of illustrating. I really like it too the way we see varying weights in the linework utilised to bring out the attention to detail in such unique ways. The mood he is able to invoke in the reader is extremely nice to see and the colours are just as wonderfully done to really gives that extra something to connect with. I am superbly impressed with how we see the page layouts being utilised here and page 9 with the Father’s departure, that panel was amazing. How we see angles and perspective being utilised in the panels shows us a very solid eye for storytelling. I am a huge fan of how we see the utilisation of backgrounds here as well.

By the end of the issue we see how the 7 Deadly Sins are brought together but aren’t quite yet privy to knowing exactly why. I have a clue but I can’t be sure which means hopefully I will be back for the next issue. You’ll have to visit TKO’s pages and website to find out when they are going to be offered in store or through digital, though the first ones are now free to download and read so take advantage of that if you can!

TKO is an exciting new company and we’ll see if they have what it takes to have staying power but with this being the second of their premiere line that I’ve read and that I thoroughly enjoyed I will say that the potential is definitely here and the talent is exciting to see.

The legend of Zorro is well-known in all corners of the world. Fans from every country have thrilled alongside the incredible adventures of the original masked hero. American Mythology is proud to present Zorro Legendary Adventures which presents an authentic approach to the heroic exploits of Zorro. These stories have never been seen in English and deliver unmatched action with beautiful illustration.

Why is this something you need to have in your life? Simple this is old school comic book storytelling and it’s what influenced creators until here we are. Granted this is from 1975 France, but hey it is an example of what these characters have meant to people and how it’s all been influential. I read this and actually geeked out because there is something about the way this was done that hits you in the feels deep in the soul. As comics continue to advance and grow and gain new readers as well as younger ones the history behind the industry gets lost. Old characters are recycled into something new and they change them for the times instead of truly honouring them. That the folks at American Mythology are bringing this to us to show the world that it’s books like this that paved the way to what we see now. Ironically enough it is really not different to what we see today.

That each story was in a different issue and is collected here the way they are is really well done as each chapter bleeds beautifully into the next and it feels like they were meant to be in a single issue. Surprisingly enough as I was reading this I kept thinking of James West, Wild Wild West fame, the outfits and the way the characters look has that tone and feel to them. Also in the way the adventures are being told as well since there is always some bad guy who needs to be dealt with so the people can live free, free from fear or a tyrant or something. So a plan is made and a deception unfolds then there’s a fight and it’s all over. A neat tidy story that is well told this is the picture of efficiency.

The interior artwork is delightful to me. Robert has a wonderful eye for storytelling as we see through the angles and perspective we see in the panels. I love that the panels tend to be filled (to Rim with Brim) up and backgrounds are so prolific. It feels like that the more that was shown the better and it really makes things feel a lot larger than they were. Oh and the colours here are sensational to see even if what we see and where doesn’t make any sense. The linework here is gorgeous and the faces are so expressive and overall the way it’s been done to bring it all to life should put a smile on your face with how fun and charming it is.

Maybe it’s just me but everyone should be reading this or at the very least aware of it. To see the French take on Zorro from 1975 to have it feel so vibrant and alive and as entertaining today as anything else you’ll read is sensational. It is also a testament to the timelessness of good, strong storytelling. So if your store isn’t stocking this tell them you want them to. Celebrate the past and see how that work is so prevalent in today’s new books.
