Nathan Bright had it all: an awesome girlfriend, a kick-arse dog, and a job as the number one weatherman on terraformed Mars. But when he's accused of carrying out the worst terrorist attack in human history—an event that wiped out nearly the entire population of Earth—Nathan becomes the most wanted man alive and a target of a manhunt that spans the galaxy. But is Nathan truly responsible for such a horrific crime? And why can't he remember?

Alright so I rather enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I might. Though let’s face it Jody did Shirtless Bear Fighter and I loved that. Still the way that this book comes at you is what really got to me as we are introduced to a myriad of different characters, get some idea of what happened though not entirely and then there’s Nathan. There is this great sense of hope that goes alongside a sense of loss and the two are balanced so incredibly well. I think the uplifting side of things far outweighs the sadness and that’s how it’s supposed to be.

I adore the way that this book is structured. There is this natural grace to the way the story flows through the pages and little nuggets of information are released. I think the opening is brilliant and Mrs. Morgan steals whatever panel she’s in and Amanda is slightly taken aback by what she says and that was extremely impressive. Young folks think they know more than they do and think they know more than we do and that makes them look like children in our eyes. We all need friends even if it’s only a handful of them to count on, lean on and make the bad days brighter.

Also that two-page spread yeah damn you all for that.

I am thoroughly impressed with the level of characterisation that we get here. Amanda’s is stunning and we see a few different sides to her and most importantly that lost little girl that is in there who is ready to grow up and question how the universe really works. While Nathan is another story altogether he’s more simple to understand, live in the moment it’s all we have and make people forget for a moment and give them a reason to smile. Something he does exceptionally well as a Weatherman on Mars.

I am almost in love with the interior artwork here. That two-page spread and Mrs. Morgan were delightful. When we see panels that utilise the city or the backgrounds like the top panel on page five it’s a wow factor. Too bad Nathan got out of bed with shorts on heh but that we see him get ready and taking care of Sadie, his dog, this imagery tells the reader so much about him that words just couldn’t do. The utilisation of the page layouts is spectacular and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a stellar eye for storytelling.

I am already in love with Nathan, he’s got that slacker stoner persona and uses his platform as the Weatherman to bring people happiness. He’s somewhat altruistic, a deep thinker and incredibly socially awkward yet he doesn’t give up and that we see how he can love and take of Sadie well yeah he’s pretty much that geeky loner catch of a guy. Since there are no coincidences in life the events that we see unfold in this opening chapter show us just enough to make us wonder and imply a few things of which I will not go into now.

With a great premise, incredibly strong writing and characterisation surrounded by equally talented interior artwork it’s really no wonder it’s already fast tracked for a second printing!

p.s. If I find out whose responsible for Sadie............

The Magic Order #1
Image Comics 2018
Written by Mark Millar
Illustrated by Olivier Coipel
Coloured by Dave Stewart
Lettered by Peter Doherty

We live in a world where we've never seen a monster, and The Magic Order is the reason we sleep safely in our beds. Magic meets the mob in THE MAGIC ORDER, as five families of magicians—sworn to protect our world for generations—must battle an enemy who's picking them off one by one. By day, they live among us as our neighbors, friends, and co-workers, but by night, they are the sorcerers, magicians, and wizards that protect us from the forces of darkness…unless the darkness gets them first.

The opening here is one that makes me want to know more. It is dark and mysterious and it captures the readers attention immediately which is exactly what it is supposed to do. God that was one hell of a creepy way to start things off too and while the imagery may be disturbing we understand that this was a hit, that someone wanted him dead and this was just the opening salvo.

Then we get to meet Cordelia Moonstone and she’s something. I can’t’ decide if she’s just an angry young woman or a total train-wreck. Her introduction is brief and yet telling and the way that Mark has structured the book and is introducing us to the Moonstone family has one of the best feels to it that I have ever seen. When Mark throws himself into something new and fresh and is something he is passionate about there is are few who can match his skill in writing. It isn’t just the Moonstone clan that we meet as we also get a glimpse of the others in the order as well and someone who at this time for reasons only known to herself is the epitome of evil.

Madame Albany and her motley crew arrive at the funeral of the man from the opening. Now while I am not sure why she needs to wear that leather S&M headpiece she nonetheless knows how to make an entrance. Personally I am waiting for the day that a villainess arrives and is as sweet looking as Doris Day because that would scare much more than something so cliché. Kudos however to the shape-shifter for aping the dead guy uncut penis and all as that was a surprise and pretty damn sacrilege if you ask me but then again it’s great for giving readers that sense of how these people don’t give one iota of a damn about anyone other than themselves.

Olivier and Dave do some absolutely stunning and hauntingly gorgeous work on the interiors here. I love the way Olivier is able to manipulate the varying weights of the linework to create such beautiful work. From the subtle to the bold what we see is simply fantastic and the attention to detail that we see just makes this stand out. The way that page layouts are utilised and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels showcases what an incredible eye for storytelling he has. Just as is the linework so are Dave’s colours here and he really understands the shading and use of light sources and the consistency needed not to mention the muted form of astral projection.

From Harry Potter to the Magicians our love of magic never seems to wane and when something like this can come along and stand alone because of not only the way it’s presented but the nature of what we see is something that makes Mark’s mind, creativity and imagination something we constantly gravitate towards. This has a very good strong premise is written perfectly and has the exact right interior artwork to complete the mood, tone and feeling. Prepare yourself because magic never looks so good and deadly

Plastic Man #1
DC Comics 2018
Written by Gail Simone
Illustrated by Adriana Melo

Lettered by Simon Bowland

Meet Eel O’Brian: a petty thug, thief and con artist who runs a strip club. Hey, he’s also dead, at least according to the gang that tossed him out like last week’s garbage. Literally. Don’t worry, though-he bounced back from all that, and now he’s trying to make a new life for himself, but the effort is stretching him pretty thin. How can he get revenge on his old boss, keep a street kid out of trouble, make a dancer fall in love with him and stop a mysterious society from taking over the world? Eel has no idea!

Not to poo poo anything but when is this story supposed to take place? I mean Metal establishes that Eel has been around a while, long time comics readers know he was created in World War II era of comics but if we are forgoing all that in favour of new reader friendly then okay. I am just a little confused as to when this is supposed to be unless Eel is back after the events in Metal before being a part of the Teriffics and he’s trying to settle old business then okay. I’m just a little lost as to the when this is supposed to be.

Now from here out I am going to approach this as a band new entity and from that regard Gail hits home run with this. I mean I like that Eel goes back to the group of men who were responsible for his “death.” it is everything you could want in a story and it’s only just beginning I love that Gail is able to show us some burgeoning detective skills to go alongside his career as a stooge and mix that with all the over the top humour that he uses as a defence mechanism when he’s Plastic Man. How it all manages to come together is only something I think Gail is capable of doing to this much success.

The way that this is structured is brilliant and how the book flows throughout and ties it to the mainstream DCU is somewhat surprising. The opening is strong and powerful as we get to see Eel’s reunion with his best friends. Though it is also the moment he meets Pado and learns a new word which will apparently become a thing, hearing it used and Eel asking if it still meant what he knew was the kind of funny that isn’t intentional but is and it’s brilliantly done. So if that becomes a thing and means something other than what it has Gail should get credit heh.

Adriana’s work here is utterly delightful and let’s be honest how many people thought Plastic Man was cute? Eel’s face is handsome take off those white goggle things and there’s a good looking man so that we see this is great. The utilisation of page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off her amazing eye for storytelling. Also the backgrounds we see being utilised just make me happy and it’s too bad this is DC for everyone because I would like to see what Obscura did to make her change her mind. Adriana has found the right work to blend the humour and seriousness behind the character and his world and it’s so much fun to see.

I like that Eel wants to figure out his past and how exactly things went down. Why his former friends would so casually discard him? So I don’t know if the exposure to what made Plastic Man changed his brain too or if this is his way of coping with his pretty recent past doesn’t really matter he’s here and he’s in way over his head. The cliffhanger style ending leads us to believe he’s been set up but we’ll see.

This is the DC I remember and want to see again. This is fun, interesting and full of what makes comics so damn entertaining

Mazscara #1
Red Anvil Comics 2018
By Gary T. Becks
Lettered by Nilda Santiago Ryan

After committing suicide, Victoria Starfield is saved by her animal spirit only to be resurrected as code name Mazscara, to protect her fans and any child in Los Angeles targeted by the evil Tung. With every life she saves, she brings herself closer to her own salvation.

Okay so I like Red Anvil Comics and the fact that they think outside the box to bring us stories we aren’t going to find elsewhere. To be frank and honest at first glance I was kind of thinking what the hell is this? As I kept reading it I felt it got stronger, more interesting and the style behind the artwork became more familiar and the story was like a crescendo the just keeps building and I found myself loving this. Sometimes when you think that a book or a style of art may be for you that’s the exact moment you need to give that book a shot. Surprise yourself open yourself to something outside your norm and see what happens you may end saying yeah no or wow what have I been missing. To me this is the what have I been missing category.

There is something extremely interesting about how he book opens. I mean let’s face it when the first thing we see is a wedding in progress this is either going to be something incredibly sweet and romantic or it’s a Dynasty moment. What we got is not what I was expecting to see at all and I think there was one panel where the moment hit me and I kind of understood what the scene I was seeing was when I knew I was going to see something the likes of which I had never seen before. Also I couldn’t see the connect with that and the wedding which is exciting to me. Suddenly as a reader I had to sit up and take notice because it’s not often you can take us by surprise.

I found that the way this is structured is utterly fantastic! The flow of how we learn what’s going on and how information is revealed is nice to see. Also this is a giant sized issue and in being such the story has time to merge with the reader in a way that it’s over before you know it and with that happening in 64 issue book shows involved you get. I was both surprised and inspired by the story and how fast and easy it seemed to fly by. What Gary does with the characterisation and introduction of the characters feels fresh, interesting and fascinating.

The interiors here took a bit for me to warm up to. Yes I like that this is black and white with shades of grey and that is where it’s hard to hide mistakes. There really aren’t any mistakes though and when you see that Chinese Cheongsam style outfit with it’s subtlety and design I was blown away. The eyes took me to a Nightmare Before Christmas place and overall that felt merged with a form of Manga and it creates this fusion that feels familiar and yet not at the same time. The utilisation of page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a strong, interesting eye for storytelling. When backgrounds are utilised it lets us feel like being a part of this story and I'd like to see more used.

That Gary also uses a very strong good versus evil take on the story was also interesting as well learning about Mazscara’s origin. While not the first time this idea has reared it’s head the fact that it feels like The Ring on steroids with a religious slant. There is something incredibly fresh about the whole look, tone and feel of this book and this is what they use Fashion Forward as a descriptive for.

Zinnober #1
Scout Comics 2018
Written by Ralf Singh & Thorsten Brochhaus
Pencilled by Ralf Singh
Inked by Cristian Docolomansky
Coloured by Ilaria Fella
Lettered by Taylor Esposito

Twenty years ago dragons returned to Earth and laid waste to human civilization. In the event the surviving humans named "Zinnober," Claire, then a young girl, lost her parents to the devastating force of these primeval creatures. Today, she's hell-bent on avenging the death of her family. But will the skills she was taught by her foster-father, the troubled ex-Marine James, be enough to fight an unstoppable enemy older than the Earth itself? Will the knowledge of her newest ally, the young scientist Andrew, bring her even closer to her goal? And what role will the mysterious Followers, a cult of mad dragon worshippers, play in all of this?

First thing that I noticed is that this is set in London and I absolutely adore that because all too often something like this will be set in NYC or L.A. and that it’s Europe just enhances my enjoyment here. I went into this blind, without having read anything about it so when I saw the first page I knew we were in for something special. I mean London has fallen it’s nothing more than a wasteland and this image alone is enough to ensure that the reader is going to stick around wanting to know more. This is how you are supposed to feel when you open up a book and see the first page, that rush, that thrill that engulfs you is palpably felt.

I like the way that this book is structured. It has a very distinct ebb & flow that is both familiar and yet uniquely it’s own. The World has been all but destroyed people are nothing more than groupings trying to stay alive at any cost and those factions are just dangerous to one another as the return the great majestic beasts once considered myth. I like that our main characters here are a pair of pseudo father and daughter who seem to have no allegiance to anyone but each other. There is something inherently interesting about loners navigating the world this way that piques the interest and curiosity.

I am pretty darn impressed with the interiors here as well. The attention to detail is gorgeous and that first page follows throughout the entire book in how we see things come to life. The creativity and imagination on display here is stunning in how fully it has been realised. The characters have this life of their own in how distinct and different that they are makes it fantastic to use sight to read without worry of words. The utilisation of the page layouts here is superb and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows of a phenomenal eye for storytelling. I am not going to lie the only thing that keeps from being perfect is the fact we don’t see so every panels filled with backgrounds. This is a post civilised world showcase let it be as much of a character in this book as the people are.

One of the things I appreciated about this issue is that we don’t get background information here, we don’t flashback right away to the first appearance of the Dragons no it’s now and we move forward and I like that. We also meet all the different factions that we need to establishing not only the rules of the street but the hierarchy of it as well. It is everything that a first issue could and should be when it comes to establishing a brand new book.

With an interesting premise and some excellent pacing, characterisation and story development surrounded by fresh clean interior artwork means that this is the one you need to keep your eye on.

Awaken Skies #0
Aspen Comics 2018
Written by Frank Mastromauro
Pencilled by Marco Lorenzana
Inked by Mark Roslan
Coloured by Justice
Lettered by Taylor Esposito

A new world of flight prepares to take the Aspen Universe by storm! In the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, Spain, a covert scientist discovers that possessing valuable data that could change the world comes with a dangerous price. However, it may be far too late for him to escape before the powers that be come to collect! Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, a loving suburban family makes a similar discovery, that the world is indeed much smaller than it seems, and no one is safe! Don’t miss the thrilling opening chapter to Aspen’s newest action-adventure series.

This was a great introduction to the series. It doesn’t give us much and I'm completely fine with that as I don’t want to be spoiled what I want is something that is going to get me excited to read the series that follows. I mean the opening here bloody brilliant and with so few words but a lot of intrigue I want to know what is so important and why this man was so paranoid that he did what he did.

With the introduction of a few folks following our mystery man raise more than my eyebrow here. First impression is always important now and what I see before me is something akin to a secret police style force, ya know that kind that are paid handsomely to protect someone or some organisations interests. Interesting, intriguing, dangerous and in my humble opinion pretty much those that keep the villains safe. These guys don’t even honour the sanctity of the church in pursuit of this man so yeah I want to know more including why the team leader is different.

Speaking of that Marco does an amazing job laying down the pencils while Mark and Justice finish them off beautifully. The utilisation of the page layouts here is sensational and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a very good eye for storytelling. The colours are pretty damn amazing here as well, the way they can make items pop is exceptionally well done not to mention the way they bring the night sky to life. The way backgrounds are utilised is nice to see, though please try to use them in all panels because I like the way that they expand the scene, the moment and the world they live in.

This does what it really needs to do. Introduce us the that which is going to become the main character although she doesn’t know that and is going to be thrust into a world she isn’t prepared for all thanks to her old man. I want to see how she finds out, I want to see what her old man does and claims to do for a living. It already has this feel to it of shows we’d find on Freeform like Stitchers or Shadow Hunters, which makes it feel now.

So a nice introduction at 20 pages of story to give the reader a glimpse of what is and what is to come. There is some interesting characterisation going on as well which makes me wonder how the characters are going to feel, react and cope with what’s coming. All in all this is precisely what I wanted this to be and it’s a shame more books don’t do something like it. No spoilers here folks just a something to wet the appetite so your asking questions before anything’s really been done.

Battlecats #4
Mad Cave Studios 2018
Written by Mark London
Illustrated by Andy King
Coloured by Julian Gonzalez
Lettered by Miguel Zapata & Christian Ospina

      Previously in Battlecats…..
The Battlecats have finally arrived in La Marque and come face to face with their prey, the Dire Beast. An intense battle ensued and our heroes appeared to have been bested until Kelthan, empowered by Zaphyra’s moonlight, was able to confront and subdue the creature. However, right before Kelthan delivers the final blow, he has a glimpse of the past…..

This is an origin story and it’s not just one origin that we get as Mark takes us on a journey though the world of Valderia and how it came into being. The history of the planet, the rise of the feline as the dominate race how the Lion God had a hand in all of this. Then to see how different races among them were so warlike reminding me of the way mankind rose and formed nations of our own. That Mark took the time to tweak an origin for this world based on what we know and believe regarding our own and then the supposition of how a feline species would adapt is spectacular. This my friends is how complicated and wonderful it is to see someone create a world that is not only viable, see believable, but one that sparks the imagination.

Mark does an excellent job with structuring the book and how we see Kelthan learn the origins of all. There is some mystery to the beginning of this and I like that but it isn’t the kind that lingers long though it is an odd time in the run here for us to learn this. There is a reason for I know, there has to be or we wouldn’t be getting the tale. So that mystery will have to wait a while to unravel. Still what the issue does for me is make me wonder, not only about what is presented to us but what isn’t.

For example we learn the origin of the world and the place of these Battlecats within it so my mind is going into overdrive to figure out why. What is happening in the world that Kelthan would recall this memory I the midst of battle? A good story will take you to the brink and then you allow you to jump off in your own direction. It not only lets us have great ideas running through our heads but it ensures that we will be back if for nothing to see if we’re even remotely right. Though the quality of this book, the writing, the story development and characterisation do a fine job of wanting to come back on our own.

God the interiors here are beautifully done. The vibrancy of the colours here is amazing and just solid. The utilisation of the linework here is phenomenal and as we see the varying weights manipulated to create those soft and subtle moments to big and bold ones is mesmerising. How we see the page layouts and the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a wonderful eye for storytelling here. How the pages are filled makes me so very happy as it isn’t often we don’t see the panels full of work, so no blank backgrounds really, and then the creativity and imagination on display here is stunning that page with regions named after the moons, sigh. Those images made me want to learn more about them.

I keep saying that small/indie press books are ones that you need to be reading and it’s for reasons like this one right here. The way this creative team works together to bring this story to life has an intensity and passion that we can see and feel.

Wasted Space #2
Vault Comics 2018
Written by Michael Moreci
Illustrated by Hayden Sherman
Coloured by Jason Wordie
Lettered by Jim Campbell

Mayhem, cyborgs of destiny, and boozed out prophets. It's all here in Wasted Space, so strap in and hold on tight for the wildest sci-fi ride of 2018. Never has a more ragtag, unwilling group of heroes—"heroes"—been assembled, but if they don't pull their sh*t together, it just might spell the apocalypse. Which would be bad. Right?

The more I read of this the more I am falling in love with it! Billy feeling guilt over his role in duping people by being a preacher and getting the scumbag in office has been overwhelming for too long now. So being on the run like he is with his trusty sidekick Fuq-Bot has allowed a bond between them form and last issue the met with Molly Sue. Now whether Billy likes it or not she’s a part of the group oh and she gets visions from the creator, Billy used to see him and take orders from him, and her visions say the two will work together to set the universe right again.

Science Fiction covers a lot of territory and religion while mentioned either in allegory or outright has never been seen like this before, at least not by me. To see this kind of being so relevant to today’s world with leaders who have no right to be in their positions and religion thinking they have the right to dictate how people live and should live well it’s eerie. Also the fact that Michael manages to make the backdrop of what is going on is utterly amazing and when I think about it it’s really Billy’s story and how he has to overcome his fears, his past and his self pity to rise up and become who he was to be well I am thoroughly impressed.

The way this book is structured is so delightful to me. There is just this seemingly effortless flow to how the story is being told and the movement between one segment to the next doesn’t feel like a transition to me it just has that right feel to it. Also while there seems to be a lot of talking going on it doesn’t seem to have that long winded effect. I like the story Molly Sue is telling and how it is significant and how it is never exactly what it seems, seriously I thought something else was going on there and that I was fooled so well is something I want see happen more.

Hayden and Jason do some really cool, interesting and dynamic work on the interiors. The fusion of styles to create something more unique is just so damn cool. Once upon a time I would’ve this simplistic and not worthy but they way that it fits the storytelling and makes the world comes alive is exceptional. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a very good eye for storytelling. There is something about the bold linework that goes with the more subtle area and creates this wonderful effect.

As we see Molly’s past come to life and how being on this world is the beginning of their journey together as well as possibly the end of it if things don’t a crackin is so much fun. Crazy is what crazy is and while there seems to be more here than is usually seen per quota it also makes this absolute weird kind of sense. There is so much to like and enjoy here and it is so great that Vault Comics can home to such stories as this one.

With smart intelligent writing, superb characterisation and some awfully well conceived interiors there really is no wasted space here.

Tinseltown #2
Alterna Comics 2018
Written by David Lucarelli
Illustrated by Henry Ponciano
Lettered by HDE

Abigail's first day proves to be a matter of life and death as she finds out that a movie studio after dark can be filled with real danger! Tinseltown is perfect for fans of crime noir stories filled with action and mystery!

When we left last issue Abigail saw a man standing on top of the water tower and the bystanders asked if she was going to do anything. That is where we pick things up here. So going into action on her first day and doing what she’s doing well it’s nice to see her getting her feet wet in a trial by fire kind of way. Though we don’t see the higher ups noting her actions we get to see them and somehow that’s enough.

I really like what David is doing here and while this is a five issue limited series the pacing for it is utterly amazing to see. It has a wonderful flow to the events we see and how they relate to Abigail and the attempts she has at furthering her career. In this era wanting to be a copper isn’t exactly typical and while she’s able to be something of a rent-a-cop for the studio it isn’t quite the same as being a part of the L.A.P.D.. Yet all of her experiences seem to be geared towards her goal and that is kind of nice to see.

The way the book is structured and how we see the whole ebb & flow is extremely well done. Also the fact that we get the characterisation here as good as we do is another factor in my enjoyment of this series. We see her as an innocent trying to become someone where that innocence is going to be lost and in any number of ways. From her social life to her professional one we are seeing her at her most innocent and working our way to a more experienced version that may or may not become jaded, time will tell on that one.

Also I do like the way that she’s an easy person to talk to and to like. She is approachable, likeable and comes across as something akin to the All-American girl. By the same token Frankie is in a mould like hers only his ambitions are much more obvious and coincide with why he’s at the studio in the first place. That she likes him, as a friend, but not that way well its very telling to say the least. A girl doesn’t like a good boy she likes a bad boy or a man depending on your point of view. She pretty much the exact opposite of Betty which is probably why they get along so well with each other. Also that contrast while not exactly Laverne and Shirley level still has all that promise of a finding a best friend.

There is something quite charming about the work done on the interiors here. It has that all-ages appeal to it and it represents the era well with the fashions and such that we see. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels is very well done and shows a solid eye for storytelling. While we don’t see backgrounds utilised as much as I would like them to be it does fit the all-ages category in that regard, still expanding the world, the moments and how we see things to draw us further in wouldn’t have been a bad thing to see. The look of Bronson Canyon and through the rest of the book is that example of what every panel should strive for.

So while Abigail works and goes out with her new beau and Betty hers things settle into a pretty nice routine. Until we start seeing some cracks and the fact that Betty hasn’t answered her door being chief among them means that there might be some tomfoolery happening here. This is one of those books that is utterly charming and holds something dark hiding in it’s shadows and that sense that this young lady is at the centre of things will test her mettle and then some. Strong writing, characterisation and lovely interiors make this a true treat.

The Lord of the Jungle and the She-Devil with a Sword find themselves up against an enemy who uses methods they cannot comprehend. In different times and places, our heroes must seek out the assistance they need to stop the evil Eson Duul before he destroys both of their worlds.

First off I want to say something about the cover here. I love what Aaron does here there is a clear and distinct feeling I get from it is classic. It feels more like an old school rendition and I absolutely adore that and in fact it’s covers like this one that make me pick up a book in the first place and flip through it.

I like the way that this book is structured, but then Gail always does a magnificent job with her her writing. I love how the past is woven into the present and that we are introduced to people who have a connection to one or the other, or both, that they’ve been completely unaware of. The how’s and why of that remain unclear and yet illuminating. What Gail manages to do here is bring forth information to move things forward in such a way that the subtlety shines through.

I love the characterisation here and if you need confirmation on just how gosh darn good it is then look at the scene where Sonja makes herself more comfortable and joins Tarzan and you’ll see exactly what I mean. Or the action that speaks louder than words like when Tarzan takes on the trained Aussie regiment. All of it combine to make the characterisation throughout incredibly strong regardless of who it is we’re seeing. Then there is Ahni and oh lord have mercy this is the character that we love and who drives us crazy all at the same time. He’s brilliant and his connection here and how he ties in their previous meetings into the story is extremely well done.

So while it feels like a lot of set-up going on it’s an important part of the story moving forward. These two have chased Eson Duul before it’s like a never ending cycle that somehow or another ends up happening over and over again. This idea is fascinating and while it easily ties in their history and why they cannot remember it, it also keeps things fresh, new and incredibly interesting. The history as twisted as it can be is one of the best things we learn this issue and it is going to be among the reasons I come back. I mean how does Eson remember if Ahni does?

Walter and Adriano do some stellar work on the interiors here. I like they make them seem so young and early in their lifetimes. Also the animals we see have such a realistic way about them even in comics form that they bring us all the right emotions and feeling we’re supposed to get form them. The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels shows off a spectacular eye for storytelling. How backgrounds are utilised is nicely done and expands the moment and gives us a sense of perspective when it comes the scope of things.

The introduction of this friend of Tarzan’s is something I wasn’t expecting and I have to say I love that. Surprises like this one are the reasons we love reading stories I mean who would’ve expected this to happen? What a way to not only close out this issue but give the them a way to get to Eson Duul. There is some pretty darn genius storytelling going on in these pages ad I wouldn’t expect anything less.
