A New Era Dawns of Comics’ Most Diverse Universe of Heroes This Week!
Picture

PORTLAND, OR–Days before the doors open to the convention hall for this year’s pop culture spectacle of New York Comic Con, Lion Forge announces Gail Simone to attend the show to debut Catalyst Prime: Seven Days, the widely anticipated event which will determine the future of comics’ most diverse and and inclusive superhero universe!

In comic shops everywhere this week, legendary comic book scribe and Catalyst Prime Universe architect Gail Simone unleashes Catalyst Prime: Seven Days; a series that will unite the heroes of the CPU for seven issues that count down the days of a week that may be the final one in the history of humanity.

To celebrate, Gail Simone will attend New York Comic Con, where she will be signing daily in the Lion Forge/Oni booth (2028) at the below times:

Thursday, October 3: 3pm – 4pm
Friday, October 4: 1pm – 2pm
Saturday, October 5: 3pm – 4pm

Outside of those times, fans can catch her at her table in artist alley (J-34), where she will be signing copies of Seven Days throughout the show!

“This story is everything I love about superhero comics, thrilling conflict, horrible villains, great characters, terrific art by Jose Luis and Jonas Trindade, and twists and turns that feel like a knife in the guts” says Gail Simone. “I am so thrilled to be telling this story, that stands as not just the first huge Lion Forge event book, but also a powerful introduction for newer readers. If you loved VILLAINS UNITED or SWORDS OF SORROW, this has that feel, that anything could happen, and ALL the players are at risk.”

Lorena Payan was the first to realize a meteor was hurtling towards Earth two years ago. Now, she's the first to realize the Earth is in danger once more from something equally cosmic but far more sinister. As a mystery figure dubbed, the Obsidian Men, begin appearing silently all over the globe our heroes Noble, Summit, and Accell join together to investigate, kicking off this seven-issue series.

Simone concludes “It's beautifully drawn, it's fun, it's exciting, I could not be prouder to be part of this event. Come give us a try, no prior knowledge needed! Big things are coming from Lion Forge and it all starts HERE!”

Catalyst Prime: Seven Days is written by Gail Simone, with art by José Luís (Teen Titans), and will debut on shelves of finer comic book shops everywhere this Wednesday. Don’t miss her this week at New York Comic Con!

Cincinnati Comic Expo 2019

Picture
Picture
Cincinnati Comic Expo 2019
September 20-22
Duke Energy Convention Centre
525 Elm Street
Cincinnati, Oh 45202

This year my experience at the convention was better than I was expecting. Without a major con going on at the same time it seemed like this year was busier than the previous two years so that was very nice to see. With that I have to say the way that the convention was laid out in the space still left plenty of room to walk down the aisles without feeling like they weren't wide enough. There was one lone exception to that was the row 500 being where it was just wasn't conducive to easy navigation.

Now as a fan I would like to have seen more artists and more vendors, specifically those who sell comics, and far fewer of the craft people. I just don't understand why craft folks are there to begin with. I hear that a lot also and since it's comic expo, comics are in the name, there really should be a larger focus on that area.

As far as the guests that were here, again I wish we'd get more of them here. There plenty of people to invite, Cullen Bunn, Jeff Lemire, Russell Dauterman, and more. Also if this to grow like it I can see it doing than maybe more companies should be invited. Vault, Scout, Aftershock, Mad Cave Publishing to name a few are up and coming or already there and in the industry. Inviting them and getting them here with whomever they bring in terms of artists and writers would be a major coup. Also there are plenty of creators who live within Ohio and the area that weren't at the show and this one in particular should be where local creators should be invited to.

The only convention in the two hour (ish) travel time that competes with this one is Lexington Comic & Toy Expo so in order to be the premiere convention in the area it needs to grow and find a way to separate itself from the entire pack.
These are suggestions based upon what I see. The floor plan that we see is great and there were some really great guests that we've never seen here before so that's incredibly well done. Also that we have regular guests and to see their new work and get a chance to chat with them and catch up in person can not be underrated in how special it makes your attendees feel.

The staff and volunteers here were fantastic! I had good experiences talking to them, asking questions, directions and anything I could think of. Yes I do that on purpose because if they are rude to me I can only imagine what the other attendee's would think. But I am happy to say the volunteer's and staff were great, and to see them walking the floor making sure the creators had water, needed to get food, use the restroom and such to ensure the table wasn't left unattended, all of this was impressive. It felt like the made the effort to continually do this and it was noticed.
I had a great time at the convention, I didn't see a Press Lounge, where one could go to post an interview or photo's taken, as well as a place to sit down for a minute. Maybe I missed it, or it could be included in the Green Room is something to consider, and keeping us hydrated and a chance to chat folks informally, which usually ends up as an interview piece, wouldn't be a bad thing. Overall I have to say this year was a massive improvement over the last few and it really was fun.
Picture
My biggest suggestion, complaint, advice is to set a standard for the comics creators about charging for signatures. To see almost everyone charging this year was off-putting to me, I understand reasons why and if a vendor is getting 100 books autographed they should pay but to get 1 (ONE) free and 5 for every other puts a damper on the spirit. I don't mind them asking for money to sign books but set a standard, ask them or suggest sign five free and charge thereafter, and with vendors or huge stacks whatever they deem appropriate. It is getting out of control when you want two books signed and the creator is charging 10 bucks a pop. That's my rant on that.

If you live in four to five hour drive radius from Cincinnati you need to pick a day, drive down and be a part of this, it's an excellent show and it's going to continue to grow. It's one of my staples every year and the way it's incredibly personable, approachable and features a variety of new and familiar faces is just icing on the cake!

FU-Stamps Debuts Demonio Exorcist Edition Figure at NYCC Booth 780

9/26/2019

Picture
NEW YORK, NY, September 16, 2019 --
Tenacious Toys has announced another NYCC 2019 exclusive for booth 780:
Just in time for Halloween, Tenacious Toys is proudly hosting the debut of a highly anticipated variant of the second character in the FU-Stamps line of resin statues: Demonio "The Exorcist" Edition.

Demonio is a 7" tall, detailed resin figure that comes with interchangeable magnetic heads: the Exorcist Demonio head, and an alternate yellow demon mask head. Demonio's sword can be displayed in his hand or in his backpack.
"The Exorcist" edition of Demonio will be a Tenacious Toys shop exclusive which will make its debut at their NYCC booth # 780, with a simultaneous online release on their website for fans who cannot make it to NYCC.

About Demonio:
Demonio, also known as the “Dark Side Kid,” is an urban legend around the neighborhood, however Demonio is in fact real. He was raised in the bowels of an abandoned building deep in a forgotten section of the South Bronx. Demonio is thought of as a monster whose name is whispered in the ears of misguided children from the hood. It is said that the act of just muttering his name will ensure absolute pain and death.

Demonio sprints in silence, carrying his “Killing Gods Swords". The only way to know if he is preying on you is by the emerging stench of sulfur and blood. Those who smell the scent of blood are doomed to realize that the blood is in fact their own.

Find Demonio at the Tenacious Toys NYCC booth #780 in October. There are just 50 of these figures, priced at $130 each. Fans will also get to meet and chat with creator Rios Palante, who will be on hand for most of the show. Demonio is the second character from the new comic book series "FU-Stamps" to be released in resin statue format. A sneak peek 24-page collector issue of FU-Stamps will be available in booth 780 as well.
All leftover items from the Tenacious Toys booth, exclusive or otherwise, will become available online on the Tenacious Toys NYCC 2019 page on October 5th or 6th.

Tenacious Toys NYCC Exclusive - Waldemar the Werepengwolf by                                                                  Abe Lincoln Jr

Picture
NEW YORK, NY, September 12, 2019 -- Tenacious Toys has announced another NYCC 2019 exclusive for booth 780: Waldemar the Werepengwolf!
Waldemar is a 4.25" tall resin figure from Abe Lincoln Jr's new line of resin collectibles: Kaijin Mundial!
"I stumbled across this obscure pachi monster card set from Europe a few years ago. Many popular sofubi toys are based on pachi monster cards and I thought this was untapped territory. I’ve been wanting to make Waldemar for years and this year I approached Tenacious Toys about launching the series. I couldn’t be happier with the results!"
Backstory:
The evil bioscientific occultist Dr. Naschy was working in his Castle in Spain, hellbent on creating an occult mashup of a werewolf and a werepenguin he would dub the Lyco-Spheníscicus.. He worked night and day combining bioscience and supernatural occult powers he’d learned from a local gypsy to merge the two fierce creatures of the night.
His experiments every full moon would end in failure until on that fateful night. An unsuspecting tourist, Waldemar Daninsky’s car broke down in the dense forest surrounding the castle, and he came looking for some protection from the wild night. Frustrated with another failed experiment Dr. Naschy let in the unsuspecting victim and led him to the lab. That’s where he let the Werewolf and the Werepenguin rip poor Waldemar to pieces, just for sport. Shockingly, Dalinsky survived.
On certain nights when the moon is full, the baleful plaintive cry of a half penguin half wolf creature can be heard throughout the steppes where Waldemar lives. Once he is transformed he only has 2 things on his mind, the taste of fresh blood, and the name of the scientist who did this to him.. Hellbent on killing and revenge Waldemar roams the countryside looking to slake his thirst for blood and find Dr. Naschy to make him pay for turning him into a monster.
Waldemar was sculpted by Mike NEMO Mendez and molded, cast in resin and painted by Forces of Dorkness. There are 30 Waldemars, found exclusively in the Tenacious Toys booth 780 at NYCC for $50 each.
All leftover items from the Tenacious Toys booth, exclusive or otherwise, will become available online on the Tenacious Toys NYCC 2019 page on October 5th or 6th.

“Gudetama is EVERYWHERE!” says Oni Press Editor in Chief Sarah Gaydos. “We’re totally egg-cited to bring him to the world of comics, and creator Wook-Jin Clark is the perfect collaborator. Gudetama is irreverent, relatable, and lovable, and I can’t wait for everyone to see how Wook-Jin brings those qualities to life in the comics medium”,
