I’m telling you all not only am I becoming a bigger fan of the company with each title that hit’s stands but i’m becoming more and more of a fan of these creators as well, considering how much I follow them already is really getting close stalkery level now. There is something about Amanda and Jimmy that we just instinctively love they are like Comic Books (riff on America’s) sweethearts and what they can do together is amazing. This for instance well it’s just that kind of offbeat humor that is borderline psychotic behavior and fantasy fulfillment taken to a new level which we can all relate to.
I thought the opening dialogue/narration was incredible. I think the use of conspiracy theories when done right really charge the imagination and seeing Dru’s take on it well it’s very different and fascinating. I was onboard with all this and had no clue what she was planning with the homeless guy so their conversation was just the kind of stuff you’d think of when reading a comic book centered on a super-hero. Then after trying her out her deductive reasoning on him and hiring him to do a task things kind of get a little weird.
A little weird yeah because well you’ll have to read the story. Though suffice it to say when we see her at school and realize her age and her obsession and all that comes with it well it’s pretty freakin amazing what these folks are bringing us. This has that unseen kind of reality to it that goes a step farther than any fanboy or fangirl has gone before, that I am currently aware of. Believing in Superheroes and trying to recreate an origin based on the most popular ones in print well that takes a special kind of crazy and I have to wonder if the men with the white coat shouldn’t be involved.
Granted throughout all this you kind of realize how brilliant Dru really is and if she’d just apply herself to other tasks she could be a superhero in a way that would make a real difference instead of just in her daydreams. Throughout the entire issue we see so much potential for Dru to behave like the hero she dreams of being even if nothing it would seem is going to go her way.
I dunno there’s this whole different kind of charm, fun and personality to this book that I’ve never seen before. It’s definitely unique and original with a fresh voice and perspective on things. The interior artwork is great for the series. It blends this childlike innocence full of hope and dreams with hard core super hero stuff that brings another sense of joy to me as a reader.
With everything happening in this book from Dru her dreams and then her family and what happens there, also let’s not forget about school and where the name of the book comes from, there is nothing not to love about this. This will bring you more joy than you could possibly realize.
