After Sadistic blew up the White House last issue, a new president is elected and marshal law is initiated. Superheroes; Haste, Virtus and Edon activate a plan which will hopefully take Sadistic down for good!
Sadistic, the character, is so much like a Kardashian, evil, vile, disgusting attention seeking publicity whore who has to perform stupid stunts to remain on the minds and lips of the nation. Is that why we like him and like to see him get beat up? Possibly at least it is for me but he really does represent a larger problem with society where celebrity and fame rule the actions people take. Kelly writes a great story with that, to me, in mind and is able to showcase just how insecure he really is.
Meanwhile the United States needs a new President and they’ve found one. I liked this recruiting of the new President and again indicative of a larger potential problem than you’d realize as suddenly the position takes on a whole different level. The potential for good and bad things to happen with martial law and a former superhero President presents challenges we’ve really never faced before and this kind of originality is exciting to see.
So sitting in his plane crying about what to do next Sadistic seems to just do something for the sheer fun of it. He really is crazy and that’s part of his appeal really if it weren’t we wouldn’t be obsessed with characters like the Joker, Harley Quinn or Deadpool. I have to say that his actions and subsequent well read the book and find out lead to an interesting position for both the team and Sadistic. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next issue since I have a feeling not one of these characters will be prepared for what’s about to go down.
Bryant and company do a nice job on the interiors. It’s a bit too indie at times, the women on Sadistic’s plane are too pin-up and posed without giving off any real oomph, then when we see Girl-Power and Bird-Wing it’s definitely a wow moment. Their attention to detail is great and you get emotion and the feeling of flight. So i’m liking it and i’m digging the potential this team has and watching them grow, evolve and realize their potential. Plus the flow of the story through pages and panels is quite nice.
With a faint familiarity to comfort you this is a new type of superhero book and it’s got this unique and fun aspect to it that really sets it apart from the crowd. That we see as much of the “good guys” as we do Sadistic is delightful and keeps you guessing and wondering about both sides of this coin.
Intelligent, well thought out with excellent story flow, characterization and promising interiors this is the Indie up and coming series to keep your eye on.
