Different incarnations of the Doctor. Different times and places throughout the universe. The Cybermen are attacking every single one! The fabric of reality is collapsing... The Twelfth Doctor struggled through billions of years of torture to reach Gallifrey, which now resides at the end of the universe. And even at the end of time, there are always consequences... Lord High President Rassilon, responsible for the Doctor’s imprisonment and ordeal, is now helping the Cybermen convert the whole universe! With the Ninth Doctor facing Cyberhounds in modern-day London, the Tenth Doctor captured by Sontarans on a planetsized mall and the Eleventh Doctor pitted against CyberSilurians in the prehistoric age... is this the end of days?!
I loved the last crossover and this one is even better! Not just because it includes the Ninth Doctor but because of the scope of the story that the boys are bringing us. I mean this time around the Doctor’s haven’t united, yet, and are facing the same problem throughout space and time. It doesn’t get much more of a sweeping epic than this right here!
Admittedly i’m not a fan of the Twelfth Doctor and his story while integral to what’s going on is my least favourite aspect. Still that he’s on Gallifrey which we’ve always thought was gone for good and is encountering Rassilon whom we’ve seen before is a nice touch to keep him active and highly important to what’s going on. After all he’s hearing how all this got started, and yes it’s his fault.
The Eleventh Doctor being on Prehistoric Earth which is home to the Silurian civilisation which are being overrun and converted into CyberSilurians is utterly fantastic. I’m so glad that we are getting a chance to see them again. I loved the idea that they are still on Earth underground and in hibernation, well at least they were at one point in time, there’s even one in Victorian times living among men and women so that they and we get another chance to see them is a great way to keep tying different aspects of the series together.
The Tenth Doctor being a guest of the Sontarans is a huge twist for me. I love how they’ve brought him aboard and are not placing him under arrest and with what the Sontaran-Prime has in store for him. I never would have seen this coming and with all the twists and turns in storytelling not only these boys are capable of but the series itself this is still one for the record books for me.
The Ninth Doctor is my second favourite and that we see him with Rose and Jack and Jackie makes this even better. I mean this incarnation of the Doctor hasn’t even encountered the Cybermen yet and we all can remember what happened with Rickey when they did. So I guess that this happens here is nothing short of a prequel and i’m terribly okay with that.
The characterization of each Doctor and his companions is so incredibly good, accurate and on point that it’s like seeing segments of their time on telly. That the guys are weaving in and out of each one so effortlessly is of amazing quality. Everything that we see on the pages here is so authentic to what I remember and the emotions and feelings i’m getting from seeing this is beyond what I was hoping for. All the excitement you felt when saw a new Doctor and a new story arc comes flooding back to you when reading this.
With the interior artwork being just as strong, powerful and incredibly detailed it only enhances the experiences of watching the show.
Forget what other companies do with their crossovers because only Titan can do a one show crossover of such magnitude that blows the rest out of the water.
