Folks keep an eye for this one there will be a kickstarter coming and I highly urge you to support it if you can. This is some wonderful science fiction, action/adventure and a little bleak future blend to create this great new series. Marcel does an excellent job with this first issue and introduction to both Delilah and Duplicity. With each new offering from Marcel and Evoluzione I become more and more impressed with his ability to structure a story along with his dialogue and characterisation.
The main story here is Delilah and she’s a teenage girl who seems to have a problem getting places on time. Typical teenage angst stuff right? Not entirely as you’ll see when you read the issue. She heads to talk to her Godfather about what she has been dreaming about and that has caused her such distress lately and this piques his interest immediately letting us as the reader know there’s something here.
We follow the young woman through her day and it’s far from typical but then so is she. It’s got an interesting setup and premise to the story and one that you find yourself wanting to see more of. Delilah and her friend are interesting characters, have a purpose and are going to do something that will likely put them in jeopardy which makes us want to come back. Strong story, characterisation and the flow the book that you’ll find yourself enamoured in what’s going on and the possibilities and potential this represents.
I’m infatuated with the interior artwork for the story as well. Joel and Ramon do a marvelous job bringing this future to life. It’s got all the elements we want in a future that’s bleak and yet exciting at the same time. There’s a freshness to this that’s wonderful. The attention to detail is great and the use of page layouts are delightfully done. The creativity and imagination on display here is beautifully rendered.
Duplicity could be a series in her own right and not just a backup but that’s just my opinion. She’s what we didn’t know we needed in our life. A typical American teenage girl being sent to study abroad, in this case Tokyo, by her parents and is about to have her world turned upside and inside out. She’s not what she or any of us for that matter would expect and she’s everything we think she is quite a feat.
It has a great comic book style artwork that is great for this kind of story. Again another impressive outing this time from Pericles and Ryan. The give this that exciting look of something so much bigger than we first think.
This is the future of science fiction, action/adventure and fantasy comics all rolled up into one book. Exciting, fresh and incredibly well done from top to bottom, start to finish this is going to remind you why you love comic books!
