WALK SOFTLY...AND CARRY A BIG GUN! CABLE sees the mighty mutant return on a brand-new mission…with all of time in the balance! When Cable picks up the trail of a threat in the timestream, he sets off on a high-speed, history-spanning chase to save reality as we know it. From prehistory to modern day, whether it's a six-gun duel at high noon or a high-tech sword fight in an ancient land, Cable is the only man who can keep history from unraveling!
Well while I think it’s kind of a coup that James Robinson is writing this i’m still on the fence where it’s concerned. Marvel doesn’t have the greatest track record of late and every time I invested in a series it gets cancelled. I was wondering what the idea behind this series would be since there really are several avenues it could have gone. So it would appear that Cable will be a time traveling hero trying to keep the balance and stop his unknown opponent from changing the timeline.
So Carlos’ interiors are really nice. Now we’ve all heard what the higher ups at Marvel think about artists so how long is he going to be on this is anyone’s guess. For now, I really like the attention to detail here and how the old west looks! The way page layouts are utilised with their angles and perspective and those backgrounds are amazingly well done and the creativity and imagination are wildly vivid. I could get used to seeing this level of artwork in a Marvel book again.
I’ll say this much while i’ve never been that big of a Cable fan, like many of the X-Men he’s had that convoluted history and kind of pops in and out of the books with weird regularity and no one seems to know what to really do with him. So we’ll see what James does with him here as he’s traveling through time. Now if he’s going to keep this going as a lone traveler then i’m all in if this is going to be one of those where he’s got a revolving door of guest stars i’m out. Should he continue onward on this path of traveling through time to stop his unknown foe and we get to see this wild array of settings then full steam ahead captain.
I’m going to spoil a little bit of this here and say this much from the old west (1874) to Japan (1543) via a very strange earthen design makes me excited for the possibilities of what’s to come here. I don’t want to explore his past, that’s been done to death and let’s face it with his parentage what it is that’s an avenue we don’t need to explore. His time with Hope that’s in the past so really what we need to do is focus on the now on the future of what he’s doing.
There’s potential here and an excitement I wasn’t expecting to find. Of course it all depends on where this is going to go next. We’ll see how long this excitement lasts.
