Kyle Scordato, a dimension-hopping supervillain, has been searching for a way home. Destroying entire worlds in his wake to power his machine. Kyle has stumbled upon Jake Roth, Roth is the only sane super-powered being on a world where superpowers cause criminal insanity. Kyle thinks Jake is the answer to his prayers but things don’t go as planned.
Don’t get confused each issue seems to be a #1 but i’m labeling them as they flow in the story so this #1 featuring Molly Danger on the stands.
This is Jamal’s baby and I think it’s a terrific choice to make her the second of the company's books to be featured. If you haven’t read the oversized Molly Danger book you really should it’s terribly good and surprisingly fun in it’s scope. So Molly showed up at the end of last issue and that’s where we pick up here. Jake’s been going through a lot and on his world people like Molly don’t exist so what we see here is some excellent characterization.
This is also a great reminder of just how talented Jamal is too. His interiors here are really impressive. This makes me want to see more of his artwork. The attention to detail is stunning and that we see so much use of backgrounds is fantastic. The use of pages and panels to help the story flow is great. We don’t see enough of this style of art and I can’t soak it in enough.
Kyle’s journey through this world has been limited thus far. He’s with Molly and D.A.R.T. and while he’s learning more about this world that he’s still a fish out of water is great to see. C’mon just because he has powers doesn’t mean dimensional hopping isn’t going to weird you out. I really enjoy that this is a more what I consider accurate reaction. Not to mention the fact that this is also perfect introduction to Molly.
For first time readers this introduction to her is smooth as silk. As Jake gets to know her so do readers it’s done with a nice panache. I like that Stray is in this world, he’s been mentioned we don’t see him so I can’t wait for that issue. There’s a good villain showcased outside of Kyle. Oh and yes we get plenty of Kyle too.
I’m pretty impressed so far with how this story is moving along to showcase all of Action Lab’s superheroes. Kind of establishing a unifying link for all the worlds and characters. It doesn’t need to create a single solid universe just introduce everybody to all the players in the company’s repertoire. In all honesty I think this is how you introduce everyone to all your books and cross the readership so they can see the creator’s and talent they have.
This whole arc for me is a great thing and it’s been done in the right way. Action Lab keeps growing and getting stronger and they are putting out some excellent stuff!
