Plagued by scavengers, harried by agents of BARON KARZA, and guided by the mysterious TIME TRAVELERS—the MICRONAUTS make a HUGE discovery—one that will transform everything they thought they knew about their universe.
While i’m very much enjoying the Micronauts series this one-shot puzzles me. I’m not seeing how it fits into the whole Revolution crossover event. With the sole exception of perhaps and I say perhaps the final page where that may or may not be a Cybertronian, Micronus Prime. There’s no sign of Earth, the Joe’s, Rom or anyone else so i’m not seeing the tie-in. I do see that this is an extension of the series and I love that because it means that I get to see more after last issue when the entered the Entropy cloud.
The more cartoon style of interior artwork took me a bit by surprise but that’s okay. I mean yeah it loses a bit of detail and clarity in some instances but it very much fits with the whole cartoon/toy line that is Hasbro. Plus Chris has a nice eye for storytelling and the way he uses angles and perspective to control the flow of the story is nicely done. The colouring really does make this pop and come off as that cartoon feel.
I do really enjoy the fact that this time around the Time Traveler does appear and the entire crew sees him. What Cullen does with this is start to really evolve Oz and his mentality regarding what’s happening. I can see him and his newfound abilities coming to forefront and his way of approaching things mentally becoming more much complex. I’m not the only who is noticing the change either Larissa notices it as well and that change in her attitude towards him says more than my seeing it alone. That Cullen can start to show dramatic changes like this in such a short amount of time is why I love his writing.
Baron Karza followed them into the Entropy Cloud. As the Time Traveler says time is all things and it moves differently for different people and Karza has spent a lot more time here than they have which seems impossible. After all it was only moments before they entered the Entropy Cloud and he’s claiming to have been here for years. No longer is wishing to save his people instead he is now focusing on ruling this new universe inside the Cloud. Starting with that who is believed to be the birther of their race.
I have to say that two page spread with the Time Traveler and the crew was something to witness. The effects in the artwork were nicely done and that the past, present and future were represented and all in a wordless way that shook most of them to the core, whether they would admit it or not, was fantastic to see. I love the way the series keeps growing and evolving and getting me more and more interested and invested in this team and their adventures.
